Thank you! You explained an essential fact that isn't in the C01U manual; how to physically position the mic for best sound. Until I saw your video I hadn't appreciated the sound difference between the front and back, and have been mostly speaking into the top, getting pretty ordinary results. The manual has plenty of technical detail, but doesn't tell the novice user (like me) anything about basic positioning. People with a high level of tech savvy should NOT write user manuals.
thhis is a good mic good quality i rcorded about 10 songs with it. but before u buy it i just want to let u know that it gets marks that are totally impossible to get off. idk why it does its the texture of the outer surface.
thanks podfather ,..my brother bought this mic and the recordings always sound too soft,..i had to face it to the front,...im completly new to all equiptment,..thanks again for the help,..also i think he said he might need the interface,,..but he doesn`t ,..
@hatissenvy1 hahahah late comment you could just go in to your recording devices properties then turn ur mic up all the way also change settings in the advance tab haha. lastly in what ever program you can normalize
i use the samson C01U in all my songs which you can find on my channel if you want to see the quality the samson C01U is capable of. Not promising you will be happy with the quality and im not saying that you won't be satisfied.
Can you please help me idk how to record with my samson c01u in adobe audition. im new to all this. i cant hear myself using the mic i can only hear myself through the externa speakers on my laptop
DO ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO HAVE THE MICROPHONE AND THE VIDEO CAMERA GOING AT THE SAME TIME LIKE HE'S DOING? IM TRYING TO MAKE A SONG WITH A BEAT DOING THIS...
Explain To Me Somebody Please.....How To Get Near Zero Latency.....With The Samson CO1U Without Asio4All.....I Want To Monitor The Sound Threw My Speakers....Without Using Asio4All
not sure why you would compare it as being on par with an sm58. 2 more completely different mics there never were. This is a totally different sound and is not supposed to be used the same way you would use an sm58 (which is more of a live mic and a dynamic mic...not a condensor)... just a really strange comparison. Is that the only mic you could name?
@wavtracks Yes, your quite right. The Samson C01U and the Shure SM58 are two entirely different mics - one's a condenser and ones a dynamic - very different sounds and very different uses - but both often used in podcasting - which is what I do. When I said "on par with" I was referring to audio quality rather than the audio characteristics. Is that the only mic I could name? Hmmmm - were you having a bad day when you left the comment? Love and peace dude!
i have this mic but when im speaking on it i cant hear my self through the speakers, i want to use this for podcasting and just like what are you doing thanks sir =)
I have a problem...when i speak into the mic i hear my voice about a second after. How do i fix this problem? I have a laptop windows 7 64 bit. I purchased a fast track interface and still have the problem. Can you help, thanks.
Thanks Andy for the great reviews. We just just upgraded our mic situation for our podcast and thanks to your reviews I went with this mic for myself (the other cast members went with the SM58 and the Blue Snowball) and I for one am quite happy with the quality. It was $89(us) at BestBuy and came with a free copy of Cakewalk Sonar LE that helped us with plugging the three sources into one computer.
I have no clue about audio equipment and microphone so your reviews was immensely helpful!
i have this mic. and now when i try to use it it is picking up ALOT of background noise and it is picking up noise from up to like a foot away... Don't know how to lower the volume for the mic. itself... would you know what i could do? :) THANK-YOU!!
@thearter12 This is the nature of condenser mics, they are very sensitive as opposed to dynamic mics, which have a good fall off as the sound source moves further away. You could use a noise gate which will only allow sounds above a certain loudness to come through.
how can i monitor my voice while using my c01u sir ? i want to use it just like what you are doing , but i cant hear my self in the speakers do i need something else thanks sir =)
@thepodfather what is a noise gate, and when you plug in the mic where do you plug in the headphones and when the headphones are plugged in can you hear yourself through the headphones
I made a pop shield out of a coathanger and a nylon stocking lol if you quadruple layer the nylon it works like a pro one. It aint pretty is the only trouble.
I would like to know how much the Samson CO1U Microphone cost and how much a Microphone Pop Filter cost and would they be good for recording music and singing and give that studio effect?
@bryanmatti4290 In the UK the Samson C01U is about £60 and a pop filter £10-£15 but I would Google - there must be loads of places online you can get them.
Go to the sound settings and find the input for the Samson C01U - you should be able to increase the sensitivity. Another possibility is low power on the USB port - have you tried any other USB ports on the machine if available?
@RyanRadiculous The mic relies on the USB port for its power - sometimes this can be too low - check out this post: - I would have included the URL but it seems Youtube blocks them - groan
@RyanRadiculous ...further to my last reply - just Google "c01u usb power quiet" and look for the result about 8 or 9 down that starts "POKE532...." - that's the one you want ;)
I have this mic and I'm using pc.. I have problem when monitoring myself, the sound is delay, I think that's what they call latency problem? message me how to fix this

sure either.. everything i need to do it? (:
Thanks for this help, and i hope you can get back to me soon! Thanks. (:

I sing, and one problem I have when recording is that when I belt loud and high notes. There's a ton of clipping and the quality is horrid.
