  • Good postcard shot in the beginning though!

  • Maybe it had too many burritos

  • any one up for roasted GE turbo. I need to spend some time at Iona again

  • Hey look, another GE for EMD to take back to the shop.

  • Stupid dash 8's!

  • Amazing

  • ITS JUST AN EXAUST OVER HEAT!

  • @kmdjones1 No such thing.

  • Wow, what a scenic place! Where did you film this?

  • If you want to see the train go straight to 2:38

  • Union workers pretend not to know.

  • GE = 2 Million Dollar Toaster. mmmmm Crispy......

  • GE has always had a problem with exhausts turning into flame throwers. The reason is that all locomotives must discharge excess fuel from the cylinders but the difference from GE to all the other makers (EMD mainly) is that GE doesn't have spark resistors and thus, can easily shoot flames when they are throttled up like this. At one point, they were referred to as 'tunnel torchers' due to the amount of fires they were producing in the Natron Cutoff's Cascade Tunnels.

  • ill be honest i almost left at like the 2:30 mark lol good catch tho man

    keep up the good work

  • I've seen locomotives on fire before and I've also heard and seen the crews tell the dispatcher that they were stopping to call the local fire department too.

  • 3:07 better place to start video

  • i would be scared to be right next to a train that's on fire

  • its too rich of fuel getting into the turbo

  • Wow great catch! i really enjoyed listening to the peepers in the beginning of the video!

  • All it is is an injector that the head has come off and is dumping too much fuel and it is burning into the exhaust...GE's are notorious for it...I know because it has happened to me while I have been running!!

  • the next thing is the fire is going to spread to the tanker cars

  • dude thats rad!

  • Omg that is really funny the engineer doesn't notice anything wrong and just keeps going on his merry way Lmfao XD

  • @SPIRITAIR1 Oh they knew alrgiht. Engineer had a shit eating grin and was giving me a thumbs up as he passed me. Im sure Selkirk knew aswell, but im mean if the train is running somewhat fine, then just keep on truckin!

  • @2005GLI it only does it when the oil burns to rich its big deal

  • nice video dondt listen to those fools that say its fake

(oh and the flames are just un burned fuel i think its running a litle rich)

greatings from the netherlands ps i work at a narrow gauge museum watch my channel for it realy is a look worth if you like old diessels and steam loco's

  • Is it supposed to do that?

  • @Dinosorable supposed to? no but they do it often that it certainly seems that it should LOL

  • @2005GLI Cool!

  • Huh? I've seen this before...

  • This is clearly fake and done in Adobe After Effects, because a type of GE Locomotive that occasionally spits fire from it's exhaust like this is just too absurd to exist. This "fire engine" crap is just as bad as that Steam Train crap, and it needs to STOP NOW. And also, presumably, the Fire Engine crap I mentioned. It's not possible for a train to spew fire! Or be powered by steam. CSX is not a real company, and logic knows that trains are manufactured by Betty Crocker.

  • @super58173 u r WRONG

  • @mdpptjlepage - u mad? Or you don't understand sarcasm?

  • he blew out a turbo charger

  • Takes a while just to see something... crop out the beginning

  • well, that one is over fueling just a bit.

  • @connorboxer123 He's not tresspassing.

  • dont worry.. if he cant see the fire, the fire cant see him

  • great catch of a GE toaster at Iona Island. 100% authentic. Nothing to worry about until the paint catches fire.

  • At least the video person was patient. Leave them alone. :(

  • fake/ whats the big deal/ its just a GE doing what a GE does. hell, the U33CH 's we had on nj rail used to do it all the time,. fake?..hardly .. train on fire? ,, FAIL

  • Don't ya just love all the ignorant fools on here who think they know everything, but have probably never railfanned or done anything relating to locos at all?

First two minutes of the video definitely needed to be cropped out, but still a very good catch man! I have yet to see anything like that at the CSX Terminal in Hamlet, NC, but I hope I do! (So long as it's not the train actually on fire...haha)

  • @FiReStOrMWolverine LOL yea I laugh every time I see the email's that I get video responses and they are telling me its fake. When I click on the link in the email and it opens to this address, the videos' youtube recommends have video's of trains shooting fire. LOL

Im going to try that youtube video editor and see if I can cut out the long opening.

  • I've operated GE's on my run that do exactly what the video has shown, sometimes flames even larger than that coming out of the stack, it doesn't last long though.. Dirty eductor tubes most of the time, just in need of carbon cleanout.

    This does happen.

  • So many ingorant people saying this is fake... it clearly isn't

  • Oh, and uhh at 3:15 the flames are bigger than the locomotive in width...

also flames at 3:35 improperly sized for the engines' exhaust(flame is too big, also flames behave in a "pipe" pattern whilst comeing out of exhaust)....

    Have a nice day...

  • Fake.... smoke going forward faster than the engine.....

smoke shape is ball like, "poofy" should be long and streaming to the back....

can't say wind either... trees are barely moving....

    nice try thou.....

  • @memadmax69 no fakes look this realistic dude... Even modern cgi doesn't look real. And dont talk smoke physics smoke is pretty unpredictable. It's real. Why fake something like this anyway?

  • You should get a good video editor and should have taken out that first 2 minutes and thirty seconds of worthless video if you car promoting a train fire.... but its still not bad for a fake...........

  • @tonopahbubba email your phone number and i'll take a video with my blackberry of the original file on my flip mino camera and send you a text of it or your email address instead.

  • You should get a good video editor and should have taken out that first 2 minutes and thirty seconds of worthless video if you car promoting a train fire....

  • U shouldn't tresspass

  • @connorboxer123 I know, thats why im on the legal side of the fence in a public bird sanctuary. :)

  • that is a cool video, looks like a very nice area!

  • Light it on FIRE!! nice video of the turbocharger fail.

  • So... running a little rich, is she.

  • Steamers run again!! Thanks, GE

  • lovin the open box at 4:35

  • she is running ritch.

  • ok why who a train do that and no 1 tell some 1 bout it cause were im from if a train is on fire or shows sign's of being on fire there would be a shit load of fire departments rolling to the trains location they wouldnt let the train on it would be stopped and they would wait for use to clear the train be4 it could move qand if we didnt clear it it would move from the spot it is stoped in so i think this video is a fake sorry

  • @firefighter54210 You can think its fake all you want, I just fixed my flip mino camera and it still has the original file on it. I'll film it with my blackberry while its playing and then email you, how bout that? There have been plenty of people on here who have explained why this happens to GE locomotives. The train wasn't on fire, the exhaust was igniting due to more fuel in the exhaust then there is supposed to be. It is practically normal for a GE to do this at some point.

  • @firefighter54210 NOT FAKE, please get a clue this happens quite a bit, look for this video

Conrail 5068 Shoots Fire Due To A Malfunctioning Turbocharger

Please get a clue and use your flipping brain before you comment out your ass, and to the Poster of the video, Nice work catching this one ^^

  • Edit out the first two and a half min where their is nothing. Otherwise lucky shot.

  • wat the fuck is wit q409 coming without trash now?!?!?!?!

  • those big flames right in front of a bunch of tankers, kinda scary.

  • @Rodakgreen shit...i thought the same too lol

  • @Rodakgreen i think those tankers were empty, because i dont think they allow filled tankers directly behind those hot locomotives.

  • bah thats normal

  • That happens when the exhaust has too much carbon in it and the engine heat ignites the unburnt particles. And yes, it does come from a bad turbo. If the turbo is cleaned out, Sometimes that eliminates the problem

  • Nice!! Auto 41 Right?

  • @Popsdasuss yup, in that corner on the north side to stay int he shade of the tree's. was there today and missed a s/b by 30 seconds. Came thru as i wound thru the road by the marsh.

  • not uncommen for csx locos to catch on fire and blow up. but that flame was fake. you can see the black lines around it where it was pasted in.

  • Comment removed

  • Nice catch!

  • The fire is caused by an external fuel injection system on the engine. it is not fake. great video

  • You shot 3 minutes before the train got to you, with fire, and about 3 minutes after it went by. Either you knew about the fire, and expected something to happen to the rear of the train, or thats got to be the most boring place in the country. Could post the location. My uncle was told he only has 3 months to live. Hell 3 months in that place would be like a fu#*ing eternity.

  • @homskoult In the description I said i heard the scanner static which meant it was near, i had no idea he was crawling around the banks prior to the bear mtr bridge. If I had known he was crawling i wouldn't have filmed 3 minutes of nothing.

  • @2005GLI I apologize for the harsh comment.

  • Totally. Looks computer generated. Flames are moving too quickly to be real. Would be more like a jet engine afterburner, the flames would be much taller. This looks like a camp fire sped up and put on the roof. Not buyin' it.

  • @pwksup1 LOL ok if thats what you think. Then the people people in philly were tricked too when they saw it on the csx trenton line still doing it. Its a common occurence with ge's when teh turbo's are on the way out.

  • @pwksup1 You do realize that the train is moving, right? Wind...hitting the flames?

  • Oh come on.......nice fake.

  • @pwksup1 u think the fire is fake?

  • skip ahead to3:15 to see the fire!

  • holysmoke!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's GE quality for ya

  • The train must of overdone the throttle

  • MAN THOSE C40-8W'S ARE GETTIN REALLY OLD!!!!!!!!!

  • Looks like some peaceful country there. Where was this filmed?

  • or are having burning fuel rich, dirty air filter or turbo is catching .....

  • Comment removed

  • Skip the first 3:15 if you dont want to look at a blank picture. Why did you start filming so early?

  • Cool catch!

  • my question is how did he not know that engine was on fire?

  • @danny25824

This engine is not on fire. This is just raw fuel catching fire do to the fact the turbo is blown.

On another note. Those tank cars were not hazardous people.

  • Thats how some of those wild fires get started.. lol

  • too long of nothing makes a crappy vid skip to the actual train arriving that is what editing does for a vid ARRGH

  • This is very common with GEs. A trip to Waycross Shops and it will be fine. No biggie!

  • Holy crap! CSX at it's best! Cool crew, crappy GE's! Awesome video and catch!

  • fake fire.....

  • That's not fake, you're an idiot.

  • Turbo charger go bye bye. All fuel and very little air!

  • also if thats your pic on RR archives, man that picture was crystal clear and awesome!

  • @amtrak3501 Those are my pics too :)

  • @2005GLI i remember back in 2005 when NS train 25Z had a ex Conrail C39-8 that was low on engine oil. the unit kept shutting it self down, but the crew kept restarting it. it went by, and flames were shooting out of the exhaust stack! man, the flames lit up the night.

  • @amtrak3501 Either that or he blew his turbocharger

  • Csx Should slow down cause

  • so why is it burning? haha cool video tho

  • @lukasfols1 looks to be a blown turbo

  • You need to cut out a massive chunk off the brginning of the video..

  • Great Video! What kind of camera are you using cause that thing has got some great mega pixels.

  • @f22bjm video camera is a Flip Mino pocket cam. Camera is a very good when put on a tripod, hand held its ok, low lights not so great. Hook it right upto the USB on a computer and upload directly to youtube.

  • Wow what a catch, and it's CSX .

  • Wow i love this video great catch!

  • Fire is awesome!

  • lol GE...and CSX = bad combination!

  • pretty scencey very nice whoa bad fire there

  • blown turbo or too much combustion

  • I like the part from 0:00 - 3:35 It is so interesting to watch the clouds in the sky.

  • What worries me is that there's a flaming GE right in front of a string of tankers. Good news is, they're not loaded; due to train-handling rules, they can't put loaded tankers right behind the engines.

  • @atsf3751fan They are AGP tankers, I think filled with veggie oil.

  • @atsf3751fan Do you see any placards on any of those cars?

  • @Shirehorse148 No, but even if they did have placards, that may mean that they're not loaded; they're supposed to take the placards off when empty. Oftentimes they do, but sometimes they forget.

No, I'm looking at the trucks; on a loaded car, the springs are pressed down to the roadbed. On these cars, they're at their highest.

  • @atsf3751fan When they are cleaned and purged they are considered empty, and the placard must be removed. Residues must still have placards.

  • @Shirehorse148 Tank cars when emptied are never truly empty. A tanker is considered empty with 500 gals or less of fluid inside. For instance, when I pull empty tankers from a chem plant those cars still contain as stated 500 gallons or less chem. But according to FRA regs, those cars are considered empty. 500 gals is a lot to you and I, but not to a tanker. Compared to what a tanker can carry, 500 gals is a drop in the bucket.

  • @csx5400 They are considered Residue, not empty. Empty is only when the product has been clean and purged.

  • @Shirehorse148

csx5400's is correct. It may have redidue but the railroad calls it and empty. If you were too look on a train list. It will still be mark has hazardous, load or empty and the placement is different. Most Loaded hazardous, when train length permits, placarded car may not be nearer than the sixth casr from the engine or occupied caboose. Empty 2 cars. Other load vary in placement.

    fra.dot.gov/downloads/safety/safe_placement_report_june1605.pdf

  • @pdlip1 If a tank is purged (read empty of ALL product and cleaned), it will not be placarded unless it's a permanent hauler of said chemical with permanent markings. As long as applicable, hazmat (other than things like molten sulfur) will almost always be buried.

  • @Shirehorse148

I understand that about purging but most of the time when you take a loaded hazardous car to a customer. Say it has a "Flammable 3" placard. It will not be purged and cleaned. It will be picked up by the railroad and logged as an empty but still have the placard cause it still has residue.

They will not always have permanent markings on the side of the tank. Just the placard signs on each side and the ends of the car. It could still be purged and cleaned in the future.

  • @atsf3751fan Actually, they can't put a loaded, placarded, hazardous car (not just tank cars) next to any engine, or occupied caboose or passenger car.

  • Wow, that's one of the more impressive GE's doing the dragon impersonation I've seen.

  • Peeper63 I was 46 when I started to watch this video,47 when the engine came into frame, Other than that it was good.. thank

  • GE put a Steam locomotive inside the trailing engine.

  • Whats so rare? GE's catch on fire everday so what? LMAO. Nah great catch bud, but still GE's bite the dust all the time because theyre crap.

  • 3:24 (!)

  • Hey like the GE but that is about it you start your videos way too early and it bores me. mayb you should start to film when the train is in frame

  • @Railfan1995 i understand. i have to upload the original video and try to edit. Im using a flip video recorder. PITA to edit, but i'll try and get it done quickly.

  • @2005GLI You Use a Flip also? Good to know I'm not the Only One Filming "Easy"..

  • @mountainlova1009 i also use a flip but quality is very poor

  • @2005GLI Use Windows Movie Maker. I use a Kodak Mini HD to record my trains. Should be somewhat similair to what you use. Great video btw.

  • haha, tht GE junk, thts all i can expect from GE junk

  • @nickyd100194 hey, that was a Dash 8! Those locomotives are awesome!

  • There's your problem.

  • Awsome video!

  • @NJT4111 but the csx enginee was on fire on trailling uint

  • @trainman794

I can see, its awsome. Makes for great video and another wrecked ge, win win

  • @NJT4111 thanks what up
