Codifying beliefs are bad because if you know what you believe then wild eyed shouting TV evangelists can not lead you to totally bibllically incorrect interpretations of Scripture.
Loved it. An earlier video of TheLutheranSatire mentioned Creeds and the creedal statements found in the NT. ... a bit confused about the "Sinner's Prayer" ... how is it denying the Original Sin doctrine (and for that matter also Baptismal regeneration ... since there is no mention of baptism in that prayer) ?
@RomGabe That there is no mention of baptism is exactly the point. The idea behind the Sinner's Prayer is that if you say it, you are saved. All your confidence (if there can actually be any) is in the words that you said to invite Jesus into your heart. There is no need for baptism then.
@RomGabe Perhaps it could be understood this way: The Sinner's Prayer is an act of man, an act of the will, a decision. The implications of original sin is that we are dead in our trespasses. Dead people cannot do anything for themselves. If you acknowledge that you can make a decision for Jesus through the Sinner's Prayer, then that could certainly be a denial of original sin, even if you say you believe in it. It implies that original sin can be overcome by an act of the will
@PastorSchmidt Wow ... that's awesome (explanation). I wish all my Baptist/Pentecostal/Charismatic/Eastern-Orthodox relatives would read this explanation.
Evangelicalism makes it so confusing ... when mixing Law & Gospel and making one feel that keeping God's Law is part of the Gospel.
@fooser77 Furthermore, one should not be shocked that the SBC turns out to become/becoming a bastion for Freemasonry [advocating Gnosticism]. For proof, see Bill Schnoebelen. And, Bill has some very nice things to say about the LCMS...
It's a little like the groups that claim they aren't a denomination because... they don't give themselves a denominational label... in spite of the fact that they denote members of their 'church' by certain styles of worship, hymns and above all, not having anything to do with any other denominations. Not denominational at all.
As a Lutheran pastor, I totally love being told creeds are bad. I love even more as I explain to them that creed means "I believe." But I don't get this irrational hate of the band Creed. It's not like they are Nirvana, who is really, truly the overrated band of the nineties.
@TheLutheranSatire Mark Tremonti is not a bad guitar player. Speaking of music, when are you going to feature Ellefson in your next short. Mustaine is baptized, but Jr. needs to get him confirmed in his church. Then, you can feature both Dave's. I'm waiting (with baited breath) for the first thrash/power metal version of "Of Mighty Fortress." That song was made to be a metal song...
@breusswane Indeed. As a Calvinist, I agreed with and enjoyed most of this video except for the baptismal regeneration bit and the ranking of Calvin's Institutes lower than Wilford Brimley's toenail clippings and the Full House/Kimmie Gibler reference.
awesome

Meaning: The word "denomination" starting with the word "demon" and thus all denominations are "evil" (as touted by some non-denominationalists).

Could we see something on "demonation" please?

Except for the comment about Creed, I like this video, and almost every other one you have made. Thanks for the good work!

Having creeds is unavoidable. We might as well have accurate and orthodox confessions of faith.

Are you saying that Creed is even worse than Nickleback? Because Nickleback is pretty bad.

Best part: Knowing a Lutheran pastor had to type out "Hoobastank."

So, I guess everyone else (non-creedal) is adamant upon being confused with a Gnostic. So be it! It's their loss...

Nice to see a Lutheran say "read Calvin's Institutes", even if the point of comparison is an outdated band from the 90's.
