Well there's a lot of back story- some of it oriented more toward kids, saying that Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow resolved their differences and are best friends- other themes say they will always be bitter enemies. Whatever. Snake-Eyes is a good guy with a bad side, Storm Shadow is a bad guy with a good side.

You are wrong. The movie screwed up the storyline from the comics. Zartan killed Snake Eyes master. Tommy Arishikage(Storm Shadow) met Snake Eyes in the military and invited him to join his ninja clan. Snake Eyes did not take a vow of silence, his face and vocal cords were damaged saving Scarlett from a helicopter crash. His facial scars were surgically repaired, but his vocal cords wrer permanently damaged. Snake Eyes and Scarlett are also a couple and engaged to be married in the comics.

The movie sucks, and its due to 2 things: bad casting (marlon wanyes, dennis quad, channin tatum, the guy from 3rd rock, and the mummys guys....come on!!) and bad directing (the mummy and mummy returns, scorpion king, again....come on). the only good thing about the movie was sienna miller and scarlett, they're so hot!!!! anyways this stop motion film is very good!!!

vow of silence was better for the film, because ray parks is a good actor and snake eyes was awesome but quite frankly through out the whole film i just wanted him to say something!

Hopefully he will in the sequel. That's the only reason i really liked storm shadow, he could fight, say lines, he had it all and hopefully will return.

In that continuity, Snake Eyes actually has an inability to talk, as his vocal abilities were afflicted after Zartan snipered his throat, while Snake Eyes was trying to stop Zartan assassinating Snake Eyes' Master. Zartan was under orders from or was employed by Storm Shadow. Unfortunately, Snake Eyes failed and Zartan shot the Sensei.

And what would be cannon? The original cartoon? Too many plot holes and vague origins, some of which were retconed later in the series. The comics? Ok, which ones? Marvel's GI Joe run?, IDW's? Devil's Due? Image? They are all different!!!!!! The file cards? Larry Hama wrote those, and the Joe comics for both Marvel and IDW, but those three don't fit together ether and they were all done by the same guy!!!! There is no definitive GI Joe cannon. The Marvel comic by Larry Hama is considered canon. All those other versions you mentioned had storylines that were altered not for artistic reasons, but fot the convenience of animators and toy manufacturers. George Lucas never allowed his storylines to be influenced by a bunch of action figures. The cartoon had nothing to do with Hama's storyline, and any story that would have Scarlett choose Duke over Snake Eyes has no understanding of her character at all.

No, thats what you consider canon (myself too actually), but most people in there late 20s early 30s know only the cartoon, fans in mid 20s may only know Eco Warriors, younger people still may only know Sigma 6, Fans in there 50s remember only the 12in line. As I said There is no definitive GI Joe canon. It mean something different to everyone. Warren Ellis (writer of Resolute) knew this. Scarlet liked Snake Eyes in the Marvel comic line, but Duke in the Cartoon. He wrote that for both groups.

But the Snake Eyes/Scarlett pairing had all the depth and substance Hama gave it. Duke/Scarlett was created for the convenience of Sunbow, who didn't think they could do a storyline with a silent character. That's why most fans hate the Duke/Scarlett and now Ripcord/Scarlett pairings: it's not just about canon, it's that they just don't fit either. Put Juliet with Paris or Mercutio instead of Romeo and see how much sympathy you get; or Lois Lane with Green Lantern.

Btw, the DIC cartoon in the early 90's corrected the mistake made by the sunbow cartoon, and put Scarlett back with Snake Eyes as a couple, so some people do learn that you shouldn't try to fix what isn't broken.

The joes roster grew by 3 or 4 characters every time a new wave of figures hit, not to mention he had their headquarters in the Pit, but when Hasbro came up with the GI Joe Command Center, he had to write that into the book as a prefabricated base for remote locations.

As I stated, Star Wars' storyline was never dictated by toys as GI JOE was. One thing Hama was adamant on though, was that Scarlett's heart belongs to Snake Eyes. I don't like Hollywood passing her around like a trophy because they don't have the imagination to know how to make the Snake Eyes/Scarlett pairing work onscreen, which I believe can work if done right. They don't realize separating the two characters all the time only diminishes them.

Definitive is whatever came first, is most accepted, and stands the test of time. It's also what works best. Snake Eyes/Scarlett are canon becasue Hama dveloped their relationship over time and it has remained so. Her storyline with Duke exists only in the cartoon and was done for convenience, because Snake Eyes can't talk, not for artistic purposes. Sigma 6 was a flop; Resolute only seen by those familiar with anime; Sunbow is now a joke. The comic pairing will always stand the test of time.

read the comic, they are not brothers, but they are best friends, storm shadows uncle was killed by an arrow right in front of snake eyes while he was training snake eyes. and everyone exept for snake eyes thought storm shadow did it so storm shadow ran off, then he joins cobra and gets in a fight with snake eyes. then storm shadow tells snake eyes that he joined cobra because it turns out somewone from cobra killed his uncle, and he will try to kill snake eyes if he gets in his way.

Aside the aesthetical differences between the characters you kind of overlooked, the animation was decent. I vote for clearer sound effects and throw in some computer graphics like sparks of whatnot (I'm disappointed I saw no blood pool form under S.S.), and this could could be the beginning of something greater.
