I don't think that a person must to study the intonation when studing a language. When I be able to speak a language, my intonation when saying something is what I feel at the moment I'm speaking and this cannot be learned.

In my opinion, Intonation requires lots of practical situations and your good pronunciation. It may be related to the time when you speaking, if you live in doldrums or under depression, or maybe you feel sick, sometimes your intonation is incorrect. Intonation is the best way makes people learning English understood. And, I do think Intonation is very important, it makes fluent Speakers become speaking English fluently.
