Bowerbirds build houses out of sticks, find things they think are pretty in the forest, and put them around the house. Every bird thinks different things are pretty. The boy bird does this to make a girl bird like him.

Brilliant. Another story I've heard is that these birds bury their eggs in a compost heap - which they first build, and then the heat generated in this compost heap hatch the young bird. The male Bower bird inspects the heat in the compost heap daily by drilling holes into the area where the eggs are buried.

Here's what's amazing: people think "Oh gee; we are so superior to other creatures on earth because we have learned to make and use tools!" which is, granted, a hallmark of intelligence. However, this BIRD has learned to use supports to keep up his little branches that he's ALSO using as a tool, to attract a female?! OF COURSE ANIMALS and insects use tools? What is a beehive?
