I held my autistic daughter, now 26 as a child. She was aggressive, would act burned if touched. I held her with minimum of force, she bit kicked and clawed. At the end of the holding she relaxed. In therapy all I ever asked her was 'look at me,what are you afraid of' After a few sessions she started to change, she began to look to me for help. If she frightened or upset she would say 'look at me' indicating she wanted to be held. My daughter is still autistic,but a happy independant adult.

I have an autistic daughter, and these parents are totally ignorant about this disorder. Do they not know the stimulation is painful? the yelling, touching, the holding will not cure they're disorder. All they are doing is scaring the child into a false love. It breaks my heart. None of them are cured, they are only frightened to go though that tramatic experence again.

they are trying to show them what a "good touch is" but a good touch is only good when it is wanted by both parties and appropriate for that age. forcing affection onto a child isn't right or any better then molesting a child.

Donna Williams, an author with autism exposes this for the BS that it is. So does Catherine Maurice in "Let Me Hear Your Voice." Some of whom have no training other than a weekend course which earns them a certificate!!There is however an attachment disorder called 'reactive attachment disorder' RAD this is an incredible complex disorder where in infancy bonds are not formed due to severe abuse or neglect or lack of a constant primary caregiver.This is basicaly parents who are saying they love these kids letting untrained unqualified people abuse these kids and train the parents themselves to do the same.

This type of so called 'therapy' is not alone abusive towards children but is a bad abuse of frustrated parents trying to force a bond with these children. NONE of these 'attachment therapy' methods have any scientific validation or appropriate research. How can any behaviour that involves intimidating,bullying and physically abusing a child encourage a loving parental bond. 'Attachment disorder' is not even a legitamate condition its a broad diagnosis used by these so called 'therapists'!
