  • I finally get to try this technique out! I just purchased some unryu paper at Dick Blick yesterday.... I'm going to encase some of my cockatiel's shed feathers.... (she's been moulting) they're so pretty! ....as well as some of the beautiful autumn leaves I've collected during the last few weeks.

Unryu is a beautiful paper, and one (very large - larger than a full sheet of watercolour paper) sheet at Dick Blick was $2.50 (US).

  • no need to coat both sides just place the paper over a white plastic bag with a cardoard insde and do the work, then the paper will peel off when dry.

  • I find Rice paper easily in the calligraphy & indian ink area of the Hobby Lobby --- all the papers they suggest using is in the same area....

  • I love it.

  • acrylic gel medium

  • This is really neat! What type of medium is applied to the inside? I dont think she mentioned what it was.

  • Where can I get those rice papers? I searched for unryn paper; they don't look transparent to me. Thanks!

  • @bayer54

Some are more transparent than others. Use gloss medium and it will improve the transparency of the paper. The most transparent paper would be gift wrap tissue. These vary and some fall apart when wet, so you have to try different brands to find one that works.

  • Thank you, will try this with some of the maple leaves that are falling at the moment, it's Autumn in New Zealand.

  • Neat! I love it.
