  • this is by far the coolest old man ever

  • I only listen to the radio in my car on the way to and from work. If I want to hear music I have iTunes, CDs, records,

and tapes. I often get introduced to new things from watching videos...

  • I think its to help copywrite the track...so you dont record the whole thing on tape..lol

  • radio dj's have always done this! they just like the sound of their own voices.

  • the kid looks like a young heath ledger

  • i totally agree. radio isn't worth much anymore these days.

i remember back when i used to record songs onto cassette tapes when i was about ten. i could never get the entire song, they were always blabbering on top of it.

you're not a grumpy old man, i'm a 22 year old lady and i totally agree with you!!

by the way. keep up the videos. your face makes me smile. :D

  • that was to stop people from taping the songs!

  • Show some respect to this man. Youth is being wasted on you lot.

  • Would that happen to be a logitech headset? I have one myself... and the left ear piece has never worked. My mute also glitches it.

I agree on your radio comment. They also cut out the end or talk over it, so usually the best parts of the song are lost. I wonder if anyone has thought about a user submitted Youtube Radio station...

  • I dont listen to the radio anymore, They never seem to play real music anyway

  • gold uk is good!

  • Hi Pete

Try DOWNUDATHUNDA radio on the net, best access through their myspace site. Free music 24 hours a day no DJs.

Cheers Brian Julie Aidan and Rhiannon.

  • YES, I totally agree!

  • Peter! I saw you on American national tv on the evening news!! It was a segment about the 101 year old Buster fellow in England who drinks 8 pints of beer and smokes 15 cigarettes per day and ran a marathon. He spoke about the Zimmers and they showed stills of you and others in the band!! Hooray!

  • i think this is a symbol for the new fast and hurry kind of life. call it "fast food radio".

here in germany it´s exactly the same.

  • Clearly, you're an idiot.

  • (=_=)

  • yeah i always flip through stations a lot when that happens. what was that at the end. pretty cool. peace. gregg

  • I agree, because some radio stations are like that here in the States.

  • I hate that , too .

    It ruins the song ,

I always switch the station .

    It's so annoying .

  • You are absolutely right, it IS annoying.

  • so true and wen its a song u rele like ur like shut up and let me listen :)

  • So why on earth do you bother coming to his channel then?

  • yeah. i agree.

  • We love it Peter!

  • you should consider listening to satelite radio over air wave radio.

  • o(^-^)o

  • Yeah, I've noticed some of them do that a lot. I guess we can always listen to LPs, cassettes, CDs, MP3... and other stations, of course.

  • Yeah, I've noticed some of them do that a lot. I guess we can always listen to LPs, cassettes, CDs, MP3... and other stations, of course.

  • LOL I've changed stations because there was sooo much yammering! Where's the music??

  • hmmmm.... never had a thought like your thought number nine... but it does sound like a valid bother. i can't stand when they tag on the disclaimer after trying to sell ya something on the radio... and they say it so fast it is rediculous. and once again your intro m.c. is just too cute.

  • Unfortunately the talking over the intro issue with songs, I think, is a directive by the radio stations. It's to do with piracy and to stop people from recording songs from the radio.

  • I believe what you've described is another symptom of the celebrity disease which appears to afflict many people now. Whether it's your so-called disc-jockeys, who are now performers in their own right, or those moronic cellphone wielding bystanders at outside broadcasts who manages to appear in every shot, usually waving or behaving like an idiot, while prompted from an equally moronic companion who sits at home to direct the process watching TV.

    Another grumpy old git :)

  • I AGREE 100%. But... within the coming year to 18 months...we may no longer worry of such actions. If GEORGE W BUSH...and his "LITTLE"... DICK... CHENEY HAVE THEIR WAY... WE'LL BE IN A POLICE STATE!

  • I agree, but it is not as irritating as the way they cut off the end of a TV programme with a trailer for the next show. That infuriates me.

    'Grumpy Old Woman'

  • I wonder if that's some kind of copyright law, geriatric? They do the same thing stateside.

  • internet radio often has less annoying djs.....way more genre selsction too

  • You don't have to be a grumpy old man to hate that about the radio. They never seem to interrupt to say anything worthwhile either.

  • too true!

  • I agree Peter!

  • The reason they do that is to prevent copying the music. Just FYI

  • I hate it when they talk or interrupt music as well. I don't care what they have to say, really, I just want them to play the song... from the very beginning to the very end. I guess they assume if you want to hear the whole thing you'll buy the song, but that's just not how radio stations should function. I listen to all sorts of stations... classical to metal, etc. I have never heard a dj for a classical, jazz or college radio station cut in like that. But I'd expect it from the college one...

  • I agree...djs should let the whole song play till the end...its called a resolve...that feeling of not being quite finished..is exhasberating. And besides Peter..the dear musician worked so hard for just the right ending...it defeats the singers purpose to cut them off.

    Keep speaking up dear.

    Blessings

    mamaM

  • I haven't heard a DJ that had anything worth saying in a long time, so the less of them we hear the better!

  • My father in law is 85, he hates chit chat over music tracks. He used to record so called Easy Listening on Radio 2 years ago! Hundreds of cassette tapes, hardly HiFi! Now he doesn't bother, Radio 2 is a pop channel these days, he says! Progress! He just listens to his over 300 cassette tapes!

  • i love the "geriatric thoughts" segments! your videos are awesome! :)

  • hahaha, the ending is funny... Peter for president

  • I agree about DJs. Who wants to hear chatter when you could hear R&B instead

  • is it the commercial radio stations you are talking about?

  • I completely agree with you. I turn on the radio to listen to the music and not to listen to the radio operators butcher the songs with their commentary and editinng. Another lovely thought, and you're definitely not becoming a grumpy old man. :)

  • I hate when they do that too. Luckily I don't listen to music radio much.

  • I agree 100%. I just listened to a wonderful group of sisters singing beautiful songs, but the owner of the channel talked over it so you miss a lot of the song they're singing at the time. Frustrating!

  • Bwhaha. The radiowaves are run by the blind leading the blind, I'm afraid.

  • Hello from Canada... thank's for watching our video! I wanted to take the time to drop in & see how you were doing. I'd write you a letter but I know you 100's a day! Thus the world of YouTube is keeping your mind active & growing new brain cells everyday by the exertion...lol Nice to see family join in our your bit of fun. My peeve goes beyond talking over the music. I personally hold media responsible for the decline in moral principles & integrity within our society. Cheers granddad Enticia!

  • Always nice to hear your thoughts Peter, and I agree talking over the music on the radio has always been a pet peeve of mine as well

  • I listen to Radio 2 and there Dj`s like steve wright what interrupt all the time.

  • I agree Peter, it gets so annoying listening to the DJ interupt the song! Yet they often don't say the name of the song. It happens all too often because they think they are famous I suppose :)

  • I always thought the DJs done it so you can't record the full song off the radio. Annoying though yes, though funny sometimes.

  • Hi my Dear Peter, I can tell you a funny story (Have we got time? *LOL*) there was this one song that was always played on the Radio Station that I just had to buy. Not knowing the Titel or the group, I went into the Record shop here in Munich and I sang the song to the Shop Assistant, he knew straight away which song it was "CANTALOOP" by US3 and he said that I wasn't the only one that had to sing him this song! I didn't feel so stupid after he said that! *LOL* Luv Nnek@ ;o) xxx

  • yeah i know its annoying but if they didn't everyone would record the music (more) and get it for free/sell it/put it online.

  • Power to the people!

  • LOL that bit at the end was hillarious.

  • Yeah, and would it kill them to tell us who the music is by or the name of the song? And why don't they tell you what the time is any longer?

  • I don't listen to radio stations that much because of all that DJ nonsense. I prefer to get webcast radio and listen to the archives so that I can fast-forward through all the commercial and advert noise. That and CDs for music seem to do the trick.

  • i would suggest an investment in satellite radio . i enjoy it to no end and consider it well worth the monthly cost

  • loved the post script by mrknuckle

  • you sir, are verty smart

  • Down with annoying DJs!

  • YEAH MAN I HATE THAT

  • hello peter!

    xoexo

  • Peter I agree with that. There was once a pirate radio station which just played records with no speech at all. It was brilliant, but I can't remember it's name. They ended up going bust. I loved it, but maybe I was always a grumpy old man.

  • Ive always thought that same thing about radio stations. Thanks for sharing!

  • You had your Headset, but it didn't work! Your voice was recorded by the build-in microphone of the webcam.

    Best wishes :)

  • there are some free streaming radio stations online that you can listen too, they basically don't even have dj's. They can be really nice and have a wider selection of music :)

  • Hey Grandad... I agree really. Here in the US we have terrible DJs who talk over the pieces of music and it seems to me that it is more narcissistic as though they like to hear the sound of their own voice...meh

  • Hey Peter. It bothers me too! I always thought it was so you would not tape record the record... could be wrong.

I don't think it is your style of music but... Radio Caroline is simply wonderful! The presenters are fantastic and they do know their stuff about music. They knew what I was talking about when I emailed my request of "The Girl With Colitis Goes By."

One of our (streaming) local stations has a blues program. I will send you the link.

    Be Well My Friend,

    FSTOPDR

  • I say we string them up you grumpy old man.

  • I haven't had that prob. If the DJ's here did that, I would call, write or whatever their station & file a complaint...that interruption would be too annoying.. for me anyway!

  • Oh, that bothers me so much too, I can't even stand listening to the radio for that and other reasons. A friend just recently turned me on to this site called Pandora, you might enjoy it as well. You can search all types of music through the Genome Project, and build/refine your own stations. Commercial free, DJ free. Pretty cool. :)

  • Hi Peter my Dear, well, when I first came to Germany over 16 years ago, I was very frustrated indeed with the Radio Station, they never would say who the singer was or even the name of the song BUT Now it's much better! On Bayern 3, They give us about a minutes notice before hand, they play a little bit of a titel so we know what's coming on Cont/...

  • Cont/... So we can enjoy the whole song from start to finish. I do believe in the old days that the DJ's spoke over the song's so we couldn't copy them on our old fashioned tape recorders, now with the internet etc., everything is possible and the Radio stations HAVE to keep up! Hugs & kisses, Nnek@ ;o) xxx

  • I notice this when I go to EUrope...thankfully this does not occur on Canadian radio stations. I think people here would cause quite a stir if it did happen!

  • Peter, I feel the same way about radio DJs. I wish they'd just shut up and let me listen to the music. They think they are so funny.

  • I only ever listen to the radio on my way to and from work in the car, other than that I wouldn't give it the time of day, I don't have a radio at home other than what's available on the computer

  • 1:15

    wth -_-''

  • That has annoyed me ever since I first listened to radio.

  • I thought they used to talk over the beginning and ends so you could not record the songs in their entirety - i.e. it stops the rip off merchants copying them instead of buying them. Just a thought.

  • So true! Don't get me started on how they talk over the end credits and theme tunes of most tv shows too. Must be disheartening for the people who compose the music which is so rudely interrupted. You also need a bit of time to wind down after some programmes and digest what you've just seen, not be brought back to reality by some joker. I'm one of those who sits through the credits at the cinema too:)

  • thats really annoying, people on the radio dont play good stuff any more, have to wait to real late to get it

  • I absolutely agree on this

  • Couldn't agree more. That's why I listen to so much music on Youtube, much better!

  • that's what i have said since the early sixties pirate radio stations

  • Solution? Internet radio! Try last dot fm.

  • haha, a good point. And I loved the closing snip too Peter. Thanks :)

  • Longer videos, please.

  • PETER,

-another fine thought of the day.

    see you soon,

    XEM

  • What do you think about "Rap Music"? I recently told a young man that Rap isn't music and he replied that is was. I asked him to whislte his favorite Rap song, naturally he couldn't. I then told him that I had proven my point!

  • You sir, are a god. I hate Rap so much.

  • Hi Peter. Back from the weekend with Zipster....had fun:-)

  • Good, véry good!!

  • I'm dittoing you like mad right now. They do it on Capital all the time and it drives me mental. I just want to hear the song, and then you can continue your chat show or inane banter.

    Great video. Five stars!

  • good video

  • I know what you mean, I was listening to the beginning of a Metallica song, and the DJ was talking 2 minutes into the song. My simple solution is my MP3 player :)

  • i listen to it through the computer,of course there are various things you can get to play it on the computer, but the best is windows movie player, one i have been using is xtreme radio player (or something like that lol) and it has stations from all over the world, only 2 out of the 1000 i have played so far do not play iver the song title :D

  • Google "radio station" and something that interests you. We listen to Norwegian stations over internet several times a week (good to keep up with news and events "back home"). There are stations in tons of languages (Chinese for you, maybe?) and from all sorts of interesting countries. Many countries that are foreign-language also have english-language stations as well. So - when you get PO'ed, start your computer up! ;-)

  • Hi Peter,

First comment on one of your vids, but long time subscriber.

I totally agreee with you. I am a DJ on the local Hospital Radio station myself, but I am also a music lover and I know how annoying it is when music is cut short. Because of this, I always try to play the song in full as much as I can, sometimes it has already been edited down by the station and there is nothing I can do about it, I always try to play the full intro and out-tro as I know people will want to hear it.

  • How about a commercial/ DJ free geriatric1927 radiostation on Itunes???

  • You're really really really cool!

  • Yes that is very annoying

  • This is so true!

  • haha you do sound very grumpy :P

    good video peter

  • damm strigt thay are sooooo bigheaded

  • lmao at the ending i agree but i dont listen to radio i sudgest if you dont like it see if you can afford andd mp3 or if you already have one thats what i do :D

  • As much as I love him, Terry Wogan has a terrible habit of doing that.

  • Lmao. I love this guy. :)

  • True, radio dj's are retards.

  • LOL at that ending! :) I don't listen to music radio because of the commercials. I listen to a user paid station instead but get news and opinion instead. If I want music I listen to an mp3 player or cd's. Maybe that's part of why - that and not being able to tell who it is if you want to. Radio people often don't tell you, they'd rather sell another beer or whatever. Interesting thoughts Peter.

  • we all need HAM radios

    :)

    -Cheers

  • I asked my 17year old daughter this, shes a radio 1 listener & she enjoys it, it infuriates me.

  • u aesome

  • Yeah, very irritating. I used to listen to radio quite a bit. You need to check out Sirius..plenty of good stations that do not interrupt songs. Also, several very good stations on the net.

  • i guess they simply aren't allowed to play full songs because you could record them... and of cause you are supposed to pay for everything on places like itunes... well, at least that's my theory...

  • i think its more of the egotistical and "popular" and i say that very lightly type of DJs ie Chris Moyles who do this, i doubt you will find this on smaller local radio stations but the DJ is there for your listening pleasure too lol

  • ^_^

  • cool
