i was the actor/musician in this commercial. At the time, Casio's advertising budget for this synth was enormous and I was featured in this as well as many print ads in various magazines. Before long, I'd be recognized around town.. I must confess, after a while, it went to my head. Sunset Strip. The booze. The girls. the smooth-boys. drugs. you name it. i knew I hit rock bottom when I saw myself on a rerun of Cops. I don't even remember the events, but all I was wearing was a ketar.

I had the Yamaha that came out at the same time...I scored a Korg DW8000 for $50, and its my only synth right now...but I was linked to this from a Craigslist ad...the guy thinks this is vintage and wants $200...I myself bought a Korg MonoPoly for $25 a few years back...and turned it for $800 this year.

It's a General MIDI rocket launcher!?!?!? Careful with the pitch bend and mod wheels! This is one product that made the owners look at the MIDI implementation chart on a daily basis. Thanks to Casio for allowing me to make MIDI jokes - they are few and far between these days.

the CZ-101 actually sounds pretty sweet, but it's a bitch to program

Actually it has a logically menu.... There are so many steps inside so you can get the sound to modulate nicely through time! Once you understand the synthesis, I am sure you will find it ok. It is not as easy as subtractive synthesis with all the knobs in front of you but not that bad to program actually!
