Commercials in the 50's were weird? I don't see anyone with pink hair. I don't see some guy selling insurance by pretending to be various catastrophes. I don't see a man thinking that because his wife is doing laundry, it's a perfect time to drag her off to bed. I'll take the weird.
huh...she never awnsers them when they ask if the sauce and cheese is real pizza...she just says it great and its the best they ever ate.....It could be made of like hair or people for all we know.
I still like to make and eat those pizzas. I usually buy some pepperoni, hamburger, and some mozzerella cheese, add it to the sauce and it's good that way. If you can get past the stinky cheese that comes with it smelling up the house.
"The Chef's Touch" meant that Chef Ettore Boiardi {"Boy-Ar-Dee"} personally had a hand in creating this pizza mix. He wasn't a "figurehead", or a mere "trade mark"...he was a real Italian chef who discovered, at his restauarant in the late 1920's, that his customers wanted a reasonably-priced "do-it-yourself" spaghetti dinner. That was the beginning of the "Chef Boy-Ar-Dee" business. He continued to experiment and create new products (canned spaghetti and ravioli, etc.) until his death in 1985.
@mburch1974 I swear, when I was a little kid, I used to hear that "Chef's touch in it" line and used to think that he stuck his finger in the box of pizza flour!
They're right about how it's better than Frozen Pizza. I'd rather make my own Pizza using this along with hamburger, pepperoni, onion, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese add the stink ones from the box before you add the other cheese and bake and it really is better than frozen. When I eat a frozen one I have to drown out the taste with Ranch Dressing
I HAD THIS ON X MAS IN 1977. MY MOM WAS DOING A WELDER AT THE TIME AND I HERD THEM HAVING RELATIONS. NOW I MAKE THIS PRODUCT TO REMIND ME OF THE HOT DOG ENTERING MA ON X MAS....
I used to buy these all the time. I used to get the pepperoni ones, the pepperoni is so tiny you can barely taste it, I used toget the cheese ones and add my own hamburger, veggies, and mozzarella. The only thing I don't like about this stuff is the pukey smelling cheese they put in the box. It smell discusting when it cooks. But other than this I still like it.
The cheese was not good enough. They couldn't include mozzarella, they had to use dry parmesan. . .which was a good start, but you needed to add mozzarella for it to even get close to real pizza. No, it did Not beat going out.
I am a child of the 60's, and my dad didnt make much like most people at that time. Instead of having just cheese pizza, my mom would put tiny weenies on it. I called it the "poor mans pizza." VERY GOOD!!!
PRODUCT REVIEW; ...PROs: Easy to make, does not need refridgeration, inexpensive, the sauce is actually quite good....slightly sweet with noticable oregano flavor. CONs: A little messy to make, the cheese is very granulated with a very pungent "pukey & stinking feet" smell that will permiate your entire house. OTHER NOTICABLE TRAITS: the crust is almost "bread-like" but not objectionable at all. TASTE: far better than I had imagined, not bad....I'd buy it again.
FOND MEMORY.....I was born in 1954....when I was a kid in the early / mid 1960s my brother and I thought it was the greatest thing to go out and buy a "frozen pizza" and cook it up right before the late night saturday monster movies on TV. We had to be real quiet and shut both kitchen doors because if my father knew we had pizza he would "confiscate" a couple of pieces from us. LOL...we thought we were real gourmets because we sprinkled "oregano" on it. We thought that was a secret ingredient
Keep in mind back "then" pizza was "not" easy to find. There was not a pizza shop every 50 feet like there is now. Pizza was usually only found at "Drive in movie theatres" and some Bars had it. So....this was a big deal to be able to have pizza when ever you wanted.
These have always been my favorite. In these tough times I think the old chef would be proud that his idea is being revived. thanks for this great video!

LMFAO i look at some of these videos and i wonder....are we Americans this lazy were we actually look up these vids still...do we really have that much time??
Sometimes looking back is a way to deal with the future. I wonder who is worse? The person enjoying a little retro video or the person complaining about them??? Obviously you had enough time to comment about them, so you do have time on your hands.
yes, they still make it but not that many supermarkets carry it. The "shaws" supermarkets in massachusetts carry it.....the plain chese & peperoni mix. I just bought 3 Chef Boy Ar Dee pizza kits today. Will try them and post a comment here in a few days/weeks

If you want the modern version of this, get some Jiffy mix. It's so-so pizza, but you can make it at home for very cheap.

Damn this remids me of the vintage "EZ pop popcorn" commercial. They both have the same beatnik beat.

I am guessing that stuff was really salty and overall vile. No offense to the chef boyardee lovers out there. I buy cans of it for my dogs.
