As far as Ben Foster taking Jan-Michael's place, I cannot comment as I haven't seen the movie yet. I did see the original Mechanic 2 or 3 times, and thought it was excellent at that time.

Actually, that's a really cool thing, which I noticed in the movie. If you want a strong and confident partner, who can do his job properly, you need him to be an individual. A complete separated personality, who can think for himself and act in his own way.
