I actually got the chance to play with one of these OLPC laptops for an hour or so... but that was pretty early on in dev... they hadn't yet announced the Windows XP option... That announcement basically crushed a lot of the community support.
But it is a very cool project with an innovative take on the UI, very cool networking and social features... but I liked the hardware _a lot_. It's not high spec, but it's perfect for the job.
@ThingsontheWeb On their webseite it say that it's a x86-compatible processor running at 433 Mhz, 256 of DRAM and a 1024 flash drive. This thing even has a webcam and wireless LAN. ^^
Nice review! I managed to get my hands on a Sugar OLPC at Ohio LinuxFest either last year or the year before. Very neat little devices, and the Buy One, Give One idea of it is amazing.
Does it have a filter for the web?

Very cool video.. I'm not sure I like the operating system, though.. the cursor is huge! so are the icons and buttons.
