This research is completely biased. Just because a young person's brain is not fully developed doesn't make them incapable of solving problems and thinking like an "adult". There is this stigma that exist today that all teenagers are at risk and we make false assumptions based on inaccuarate research like this. Adolesence today is exaggerated and has gone too far. Look up the following words: Adultism, Ageism, and Adultcentrism. There is so much I want to say but I will stop here...
Why is it okay to make gross generalizations by way of age? If we made them about race would it be acceptable? I'm skeptical of pseudo-scientific opinions by lab coated men masquerading as scientists. Preconceived prejudice play a big part in their theories. I can tell you that my mind was much sharper and more adept at 20 years old than it is now at 53.
@live1234561 There is not an exact age at which all young people hit puberty. It varies greatly. So often today, we are finding that kids are hitting puberty at much younger ages. I remember all the biases adults held towards me growing up simply because of my age when I was much younger and all the false assumptions they made. And you know what, no one is ever fully grown-up because there is no end to maturity.
if i only smoke pot on weekends.. will that still affect me? cuz i know smoking alot will slow brain development and get in the way of ur life, im only 13, i want to be able to smoke pot and have a good life

well, you build emotional reactions to stress. When you're growing up, you don't know any better, or most don't and they are battling their hormones. I've had great insight and judgement my entire life. My entire brain works off of fear and thrill of. My motivation is fear.
Wait a second! 2009 research discovered that the brain could change shape even during adulthood and late adulthood! the connections that have not been established during teenage can still be built after, even if it will be harder!
It is never too late to change your life. As a teen I abused drugs, alcohol, you name it. I am sure I caused myself some brain damage in the process. But now I am 29 years old, back in school, and I am doing fine. And meditation can do wonders if you keep up with it.
oh so fucking around making out with every dipshit that comes along is ok but OH NO dont smoke weed and drink... give me a break! having sex and all that stuff can be just as dangerous as doing drugs. u could fucking get someone pregnant or if ur a chick get preggo ur self! saying u love doing it makes u just seem like immature whore/manwhore! i wonder what a parent you'll be! dont drink or do drugs kids... but SURE fuck around, its fun! they both can have equally harming effects!
I feel the same way. I'm 19 and some other kids my age are full of themselves. Most go out and just drink liquor when I just like reading and listening to meditation music. Weird I know.
im assuming that you are still an adolescent, I am 21 so i am as well. But it is scientific fact that yuor brain isnt fully developed until i think 25. and after that you can still of course learn new stuff. Its not saying hey your dumb until your adult, but rather you havent reached your potential, and many teens are smarter then many adults. But smarter doesnt mean that you are more advanced in this aspect.
yep proves my thoughts teenage brains aren't as highly developed as they would like to think that they are, pitty it is hard to get that message across to teenagers.
