I just don't think this advise is for the average person. With the savings rate in this country being what it is, how many people can afford a monster box of silver eagles? Not many. And personally, I recommend investing in "Junk" silver (90% coins) for trade during a dollar collapse. Even a 1 oz silver eagle will be too large to trade for small purchases. That is where the pre-64 junk silver coins will come into play.
This is a great interview. Thanks for the arrangement of this interview. It makes sense that Euro, US and China want to weaken their currency to compromise sticky(high) wage. In order to do this, Euro zone keeps debt crisis running, China manually burst the housing market, and US keeps printing money through growing treasury debt and Fed QE. I agree with James that it is only a matter of time to see fiat currency collapse. Well, good luck for all of you in Chinese dragon year.
i am from the middle east and i know your media is inventing lies about Iran about Libya and Egypt and Tunisia and so on..its shameful that Americans believe their criminal governments and this has been going on for much longer than you want to believe. What is astounding is that people in America love those lies because they are Americans..
@opensala I am from the USA, I can assue you that there is alot of folks out here that know for a fact that our government is hiding the truth. I don't believe and many of us Americans from all over the country don't have any faith in the US Administration with folks like Barack, Hillary Clinton, Tim Geither, and many others in it. We are wakeing up to realize that something is dreadfully wrong. Tell your friends and relatives, there once was an America and this is not it.
@shumanitutonkaowachi your governments were always covering up with great conviction with the greatest promises to you and all over the world while they were in fact plotting against you and the rest of humanity. The nature of relationship in your culture is about lies by definition. its about injustice by definition, for example in most countries when in court of law you are innocent until proven guilty. also while for 22 years Qaddafi share equally the revenues of oil, you still paid 4it here!
@opensala I voted for Ron Paul to win the Republican Primary. I hope that he will win the election so that he may challenge OBAMA. I expect that he will destroy Obama in a race for the Presidency. There are some unsavory folks in our government who are continuing on with failed foreign policies.

In 1981, Rickards was involved in the Iran hostage crisis. As general counsel for the hedge fund Long-Term Capital Management (LTCM),he was the principal negotiator in the 1998 bailout of LTCM by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Rickards worked on Wall Street for 35 years. In 2001, he began using his financial expertise to aid the U.S. national security community and the U.S. Department of Defense.
It is hard to listen to a neocon promoting war with Iran, invasion of a sovereign nation and murder of innocents. I lose trust in anything else he has to say when I hear this warmongering BS. On King World News, he repeated the lie about Iran saying they want to "wipe Israel off the map" and used this propaganda as justification for war. Two seconds on Google disproves this, so how good are his research skills??
Who has Iran invaded and or attacked in the last 100 years? Compare that to Israhell. Israhell is loaded with nukes. Why can't Iran have nukes? Why doesn't this dumb ass talk about building 7? Because he's a zionist shill. Anyone who talks about foreign policy without addressing the fact that those buildings were brought down via controlled demolition on 911, is an idiot.
@TheTruthVibrations All the proof you need that Jim Rickards is a Rothschild-Rockefeller shill is that he named his book "currency wars". Same name as a best selling book released in China about five years ago that exposes the Federal Reserve, Bank of England, Rothschild family, etc... Rickards named his book the exact same name to divert an english speaking version of the orginal book that really blows the whistle on the truth of the last 250 years of central banking
@TheTruthVibrations I am against an Iran war, but you cant say that your not concerned about the prospect of that pscyho mad man getting a bomb. I think we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. And no... im not a victim of propaganda, the thought of Iran having a bomb is indeed scary. Not for me, but for others in that region.
@TheTruthVibrations Because when the Iran leadership 'talk' they sound like they are not only beasts, they are out of their mind. If the Middle East finds Israel to be the enemy, they are delusional. The Middle East is a 'dead zone'. Take away their oil and they are rug makers. They hate Israel because it is civilized, creative & prosperous. Fundementalist islam has kept the Middle East in the Middle Ages lacking humanity, production, liberty or hope. A 'death cult'.
$20 an oz gold was an artificial construct of the government & imposed on americans. Also, that $20 bought a lot more. A loaf of bread was 3 cents. 12 hours of hard labor paid ten cents. So it is not honest to say it will be $20 dollars without the historical context.

You blame the actual cause of the system, its based on speculation, AND inflation, such a system will always fail because its a PONZE scam
@bammbamm12 I don't think he is pressing for war, he is just being an analyst. I may not like Obama, but I think he will win the 2012 election, just because I think that doesn't make me an Obama supporter.
@visionvictory I thought the same thing about Rickards and it made me suspect. It sounds like he is repeating neocon war propaganda. I hope its not the deal, cuz I like the guy. I read his book and enjoyed it, although it wasnt anything new for me. Awesome that you got this interview though!
@visionvictory - No no. He was making excuses for it. "It won't be boots on the ground; just air strikes, etc." He was talking about this months ago - he can't get it out of his head. He wants it, for some reason I can't figure out. It's not his subject anyway.
@visionvictory I would really like to know "who does like Obama?" I really want to know the type of people that will be pushing for him to be re elected....they all must have a screw loose!
@billyjoebobway I certainly am not an Obama guy, however, I have friends that are. They are mostly people who receive a check from the government and want to see the "gravy train" continue.
@visionvictory I disagree. I've met Rickards twice and he is a thorough boot-licker. He IS pushing for war with Iran. He may even be a source of disinformation. He is intelligent, connected, a good investor, etc., and one can learn from him, but have illusions: he is not "an analyst" diagnosing at the system. Rather, he is an active player trying to influence events. This is a man who has proposed openly that the US confiscate the German and Italian gold held in NY.
@visionvictory Obama probably will win the election. Esp. with the gov't supressing Ron Paul and proping up the stock market. Just to many sheep in this country any more. But one things for sure, if we (US) decided to take on Iran, get ready for China and Russia to protect Iran, which they've already said that they'll do!!
@bammbamm12 Agreed! I fear the motives and agenda of the federal reserve and our foreign policy much more than Iran. I read his book and actually saw him at one his speaking "$20 book signing" events.
He made some very good points but he was quick to defend Israel which immediately gave me pause.
@kvnlgn3008 - Yeah - what the Hell do we want to hear from him about Israel and Iran for? Yes, yes - there will be financial implications, but he's taking sides and that's out of his field.
The crash is happening now. It is hard for people to identify such a large historical event from the position of being inside of it. But, The crash is happening NOW.
This guy sounds a lot like John Perkins in "Confessions of an Economic Hitman".
Is this the way we should be conducting our foreign policy? I would hate to see what these Iranians may have in our country right now with our southern border policy. We may regret being such a bully.
Keep 50 percent cash and buy more gold at a later date? That means you get less ounces at a later date, with a devalued currency? Sorry but that is just stupid.
If Richards is so sure of dollar collapse, why wait to buy gold at a higher price? Sound much more sensible to make gold/silver the core of the portfolio, and buy at current undervalued prices...incrementally of course
@TheLusseyran I think what he`s saying is ``buy the dips``. I don`t agree with this either as I think that fiat will become worthless (but we don`t know when that`s going to happen) and I think Rickards believes that it`s still going to take some time before the dollar collapses. He also said (if I`m not mistaken) that he thinks gold and silver is not finished with their correction. I don`t agree with this either as I don`t see PM`s going lower any more.
Why is no one talking about China and Russia's comments to back Iran? China is currently importing 30 Billion dollars a year in oil from Iran, and has publicly said that they will back Iran in a US offensive strike. Why on earth are we even considering this? Ron Paul for Pres, end the US world police era!!
Randal Howard "Rand" Paul US Sen 4 Ky. Member of the R Party. A member of the Tea Party, he describes himself as a constitutional conservative & libertarian. He is the son of R Congressman & 2012 R presidential candidate Ron Paul of Texas & had never previously held political office. Paul first received nat.att in 08 when making political speeches on behalf of his father. Rand Paul is the first US Senator in history to serve alongside a parent in the US House of Representatives.
Eric Sprott is fighting in the currency wars if he knows it or not with his second offering of $1.5B for his silver trust fund opening with $300M allotment for 10 million ounces.
Does Rickards know that 70% of silver production is a byproduct from base metal production ?
Any reduction in base metal production will see an appropriate reduction in silver production while currency crisis will spur investor demand for silver.
regime Change, like "OPERATION AJAX" in 1953 when USA nad Britan went in and kicked out Mossedeq, and put the SHAH of IRAN, he was butch working for AMERICA. that is the reason for uprising in 1979.
To conclude that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons is drinking Isreali/U.S. kool-aid.
This past Sunday, Saudi Arabia inked a deal with China for nuclear energy co-operation.
"In the desert kingdom, a booming population and developing economy are constraining the government's ability to provide electricity and water. Nuclear energy is increasingly becoming the favored alternative, one that experts say could save more valuable crude for export and help satiate local demand for power and water."
If Rickards says Iran is working on a nuclear weapon, then odds are he is correct. IT DOESN'T MEAN HE IS FOR BOMBING IRAN, he is just describing the current scenario as viewed by the military and intelligence. If you're for Ron Paul, then bashing Rickards on his outlook on Iran could be hypocritical, because the Iranians building a nuclear weapon and wanting to use it is the very blowback that Dr. Paul always talks about, and which Rickards is explaining in detail. Ahmadinejad regime IS ruthless
The FOMC monetary policy meeting will take place on January 24-25 and the interest rate decision will be announced the second day at 19:15 GMT.
We already have had a form of quantitative easing called the Permanent Open Market Operations(POMO) for a long time...people don't even notice it.
Rickards is correct that they will avoid using the word 'QE3', but it WILL happen in some form. This will weaken the dollar and boost commodities and stocks.
Rickards appears to be a mouthpiece for the pro Israeli zionist power configuration that thinks they know best how the world should work. Its Ok for India to have nukes because they are a 'democracy' sugests Rickards. India also has a caste system which you don't want to be at the wrong end of...
Watch this video on youtube "Chemtrails : What in the World Are They Spraying?" 90% of the world is not aware of this. 1 1/2 hour documentary with proof the US government isn't doing anything about dangerous levels of pollution in jet trails. They are not contrails - just watch the documentary with real scientist.
Thanks Daniel just got my original brand spanking new copy and am quarter of the way thru I am loving it can't put the book down its great to hear James Rickards on your Chanel thanks
Daniel, get a Kindle. I was in Afghanistan when the book came out on Nov 10th. I had it downloaded that same day and was finished reading it on Nov 20th. The Kindle is great.
What he means by that is other assets you can hold in your hand art is just an example. He could of said classic cars.
I don't 100% agree with that because during the collapse collector items will lose value because no one has any money or be selling them for pennies on the dollar to buy food, but after the collapse, when the money is flowing those things will increase in value dramatically.
I read his book i liked it his views on economie are spot on, but his view on iran is zionist view i can not respect him for that, because its propaganda......and if u have run away inflation why would you want to have 50% in cash?? Makes no sense gold silver will be blowing up in price. Id say10% in cash
@visionvictory Buying art, is perhaps a bit like buying numismatic coins. Limited number of possible buyers. I think some art has fashion periods where it can be popular and then demand fades. Perhaps specialist knowledge required to deal in art - too much like hard work/time consuming, unless it's a thing that interests you anyway. Probably doesn't stack to well either and doesn't have that pretty ring to it when you bounce 2 of them together. Nice interview - Thanks
In my opinion the dollar got stronger in the last decades because of production outsourcing in low-wage countries. Products made with small money brought to the west countries where they cost a lot more. Its like putting a fake value on a product.
9:20 I'd have to disagree with Jim Rickards about the euro. From what I hear, I doubt that Greece will stay in the EU. It looks like Greece quit the EU so they can print money (to stave off austerity).
Perhaps I'm wrong but I believe Gerald Celente made the point that "sovereign" debtors have the creditor over a barrel. The creditors can't foreclose on a sovereign nation and the creditors have little choice but to take whatever haircut Greece feels like giving them.
Im currently reading that book...very interesting. Its like reading about the worlds largest chess game....every possible move is looked at every possible angle.
one of the better interviews I've heard lately. reasonable, well thought out and Rickards is just so logical. Not another silver bug saying he's looking at 150+ silver soon.
@JohninBasel There is no difference between Israel and US. US foreign policy is dictated by Israel, and American soldiers' boss is Israel and the Jewish Lobby in the U.S., which is why America has military bases all over the Middle East, Persian Gulf, and South Asia.
Next month in mid February 2012 there is an art show for rising painter Yos Joseph Tany which i recommend for investment. Follow Rochester Art House 1355 westwood blvd. Come visit when the show opens from Mid February 2012. For details Call Dario Melado 4242361288 (currently holding a good Occupy LA, or 99 demonstration show which maybe worth investing as well. Some of the artists also show in the Latino Museum in Down Town at the moment. thanks for your attentions.
what if ron paul wins? Ron Paul will really cut spending not just lip service, planning on $1 trillion in cuts the 1st year which is deflationary so gold and stocks would probably take a big hit. Comments
He would say he does not shape policy but in a way he does, you see would not be able to stop SOPA if Wikipedia and Google where against it and tell people how wrong it is.
@davincij15 How so? Im curious why you say that. His argument for what he thinks will take place in Iran sounded rational to me. As much as I despise the MSM, just because it might be similar to what the MSM is saying, doesnt make it wrong 100% of the time does it? What am I missing here?
@Motoicon "..What am I missing here?.." His claim that iranians are definitely developing nuclear weapons is certainly not based on any evidence from anything that has been made public. Until evidence is presented, it's bullshit. His claims that iran airforce will be "taken out" in 1 day (and similar rhetoric in other interviews) is likely indicative of usual gung-ho chicken-hawk war-mongering wankers. These things are unknowable before the fact. Add them all together & U get bullshit
@zalida100 What I heard is what he thinks our government WILL do, not what anyone else thinks they SHOULD do. While I agree that Rickards may agree with that policy, I just didnt hear him say that he does specifically, and quite frankly, its irrelevant what Rickards wants. Its an important distinction to make between what we think should happen and what will most likely take place......
@Motoicon Yes, it's irrelevant what he wants. It's maybe a little irresponsible to say that iran is developing nukes without citing evidence sources, especially since it is controversial. (If there was evidence he would have cited it).
You're correct about making distinctions etc. Rickards is a smart cookie, so it's disappointing to hear the propaganda from him. I'm biased. I don't like to hear the likely bombing of people dismissed so lightly. I do appreciate your comment though.
Do you agree a lie of omission is still a lie? Everything he said was truthful but missing critical information that would make you change your mind.
I have done a video and it will be uploaded soon but consider all the bad things the USA has done in the past to Iran and the real issues for them is security against America taking out their leaders and disrupting their lives.
It's a mess because of blow back, the actions taken that Americans are not aware of.
@davincij15 The American Empire is on the decline. Soon it won't be able to do much around the world. Dittos about blowback. Michael Ruppert is correct.
@davincij15 I look forward to it. But..What I believe Rickards is saying is not what he thinks SHOULD happen, its what he believes Will happen because of our government policies towards the middle east at this time. Again, its not what is right, its about the likelihood of what our Government will do. Based on what I know today, I think what he predicts will be the likely outcome.
Actually listen to what he says about monetary policy it's predictive with tin foil hat wearing facts that are true. He does not apply the same truth to foreign policy he acts as if the fact presented by the media and government are thats needed. The critical thing to take away is everything he said was true BUT it's not the whole truth! Many other facts and understanding is left out making Iran look like bad guys that woke up one day and decided to be evil.
@catsmew Agree totally. Lieberman,Wolfowich,Pearl, many, if not all signers of the partnership for a new american century. God we breed a bunch of turds in this country.
@143DREWID Yes. Certainly, war is always wrong. There are many good books written about the past, however, as you are aware, the "history" books that are given to kids in schools are "given" for a reason.
M. Twain seems to have been a pretty smart guy too. Thanks
I would love to hear you and Tekoa Da Silva in an interview. He seems to have figured out some nice information about client money in banks or in the hands of brokers. Love your interview and follow all your videos. Thanks for this one for sure.
Buy gold wedding bands if one fears gov confiscation. FDR took gold bullion and US coins but he never outlawed jewelry. That would put jewelry stores out of business. Negotiate with a jeweler for large buys, but you must pay at least 20 percent premium. Rings usually sell 50 to 100 percent above spot price. You can lower it by bulk buys. One way to own gold with no fear of confiscation.
@fee1776 Why wouldn't people just buy bullion or coins. If they do outlaw gold, who is going to turn it in anyway. People didn't turn it in during the 30's. Most of the gold taken was gold held in banks. The average person didn't turn it in, rightfully so. If I had gold I wouldn't turn it in. If they tell people to shoot their family, are they really going to do it? I doubt it. If you turn in your money you might as well, because your toast anyway.
YES JAMES FRICKIN RICKARDS!!! I bought and read the book right after it came out. Funny how it goes along with the things going down right in front of our faces. I listen to his King World News interviews every time they put one out. To me, he knows what's up and has the nail right in his sights and nails it every time. Listen up folks!! You might learn something. Now I have to listen to this interview.

I don't know why Rickards is pressing for war on Iran. Is he a neocon? Iran is about as much a danger to the US as Manitoba.
bammbamm12 1 month ago 9
@bammbamm12 I don't think he is pressing for war, he is just being an analyst. I may not like Obama, but I think he will win the 2012 election, just because I think that doesn't make me an Obama supporter.
visionvictory 1 month ago 6
@visionvictory I thought the same thing about Rickards and it made me suspect. It sounds like he is repeating neocon war propaganda. I hope its not the deal, cuz I like the guy. I read his book and enjoyed it, although it wasnt anything new for me. Awesome that you got this interview though!
mahavira108 1 month ago

MattN47 1 month ago
@visionvictory I disagree. I've met Rickards twice and he is a thorough boot-licker. He IS pushing for war with Iran. He may even be a source of disinformation. He is intelligent, connected, a good investor, etc., and one can learn from him, but have illusions: he is not "an analyst" diagnosing at the system. Rather, he is an active player trying to influence events. This is a man who has proposed openly that the US confiscate the German and Italian gold held in NY.
MarcusCMarcellus 1 month ago
@visionvictory Obama probably will win the election. Esp. with the gov't supressing Ron Paul and proping up the stock market. Just to many sheep in this country any more. But one things for sure, if we (US) decided to take on Iran, get ready for China and Russia to protect Iran, which they've already said that they'll do!!

TheLusseyran 1 month ago 2
@TheLusseyran I think what he`s saying is ``buy the dips``. I don`t agree with this either as I think that fiat will become worthless (but we don`t know when that`s going to happen) and I think Rickards believes that it`s still going to take some time before the dollar collapses. He also said (if I`m not mistaken) that he thinks gold and silver is not finished with their correction. I don`t agree with this either as I don`t see PM`s going lower any more.

Nuclear energy is increasingly becoming the favored alternative, one that experts say could save more valuable crude for export and help satiate local demand for power and water."
addley1000 1 month ago
If Rickards says Iran is working on a nuclear weapon, then odds are he is correct. IT DOESN'T MEAN HE IS FOR BOMBING IRAN, he is just describing the current scenario as viewed by the military and intelligence. If you're for Ron Paul, then bashing Rickards on his outlook on Iran could be hypocritical, because the Iranians building a nuclear weapon and wanting to use it is the very blowback that Dr. Paul always talks about, and which Rickards is explaining in detail. Ahmadinejad regime IS ruthless

@davincij15 How so? Im curious why you say that. His argument for what he thinks will take place in Iran sounded rational to me. As much as I despise the MSM, just because it might be similar to what the MSM is saying, doesnt make it wrong 100% of the time does it? What am I missing here?
Motoicon 1 month ago
@Motoicon "..What am I missing here?.." His claim that iranians are definitely developing nuclear weapons is certainly not based on any evidence from anything that has been made public. Until evidence is presented, it's bullshit. His claims that iran airforce will be "taken out" in 1 day (and similar rhetoric in other interviews) is likely indicative of usual gung-ho chicken-hawk war-mongering wankers. These things are unknowable before the fact. Add them all together & U get bullshit
zalida100 1 month ago
@zalida100 What I heard is what he thinks our government WILL do, not what anyone else thinks they SHOULD do. While I agree that Rickards may agree with that policy, I just didnt hear him say that he does specifically, and quite frankly, its irrelevant what Rickards wants. Its an important distinction to make between what we think should happen and what will most likely take place......
Motoicon 1 month ago
@Motoicon Yes, it's irrelevant what he wants. It's maybe a little irresponsible to say that iran is developing nukes without citing evidence sources, especially since it is controversial. (If there was evidence he would have cited it).
You're correct about making distinctions etc. Rickards is a smart cookie, so it's disappointing to hear the propaganda from him. I'm biased. I don't like to hear the likely bombing of people dismissed so lightly. I do appreciate your comment though.
zalida100 1 month ago
@Motoicon
It's a mess because of blow back, the actions taken that Americans are not aware of.

jimbobubbadj 1 month ago
@davincij15 I look forward to it. But..What I believe Rickards is saying is not what he thinks SHOULD happen, its what he believes Will happen because of our government policies towards the middle east at this time. Again, its not what is right, its about the likelihood of what our Government will do. Based on what I know today, I think what he predicts will be the likely outcome.
Motoicon 1 month ago
@Motoicon

One way to own gold with no fear of confiscation.
fee1776 1 month ago
@fee1776 Why wouldn't people just buy bullion or coins. If they do outlaw gold, who is going to turn it in anyway. People didn't turn it in during the 30's. Most of the gold taken was gold held in banks. The average person didn't turn it in, rightfully so. If I had gold I wouldn't turn it in. If they tell people to shoot their family, are they really going to do it? I doubt it. If you turn in your money you might as well, because your toast anyway.
