  • that is extreme...

  • Undeniably, climate change is anthropogenic. Cutting carbon forcing to 350 ppm is a matter of to-be-or-not-to-be.

  • Wow. That much ice has been destroyed by that time and this was made last year?

  • Could be a natural cycle that we're not aware of, maybe happens every 3000 yrs or so.. what do human banana and coconut measuring brains know?

  • @MrZofty They know this not from orbital or solar forcing. So what's your hypothesis?

  • Increased Carbon's doing nothing to change the temperature. It's heating naturally as a result of melting ice caps, which are simply melting as a result of the sun hitting them. You know they can't sustain themselves on their own, right?

  • Let's do something about it if we have the balls.

  • I wouldn't make light of this inevitability. Once the polar caps melt, there is nothing left to absorb the heat but the Earth itself. It's a mathematical certainly. Don't pray, have fun.

  • SURF THE WAVE !!

  • Ice needs to be more extreme with global warming. Ice is not going to be heat's bitch anymore!

  • haha yeah ice kick its ass lol

  • wow thats sad

  • Wow. Just wow. Its so hard just too graspe the sheer size of these chunks of ice...

  • SNAKE KILLS DUMBLEDORE PAGE 596

  • hrmm...Snape?

  • hmmm...thats not good...

  • Brr

  • new world order

  • whatev's

  • can anyone tell me the name of the song? if it exists...

  • Though I'm not sure, sounds a lot like the music of Jason Rubenstein

Find his page on my space -- great music

  • i love the music for this video :]

  • I don't see how you can even try to act remotely smart. "For some reason ... " is nothing close to anything scientifical or anything remotely dependable. If everybody used "For some reason" in the scientific method , we would still be at the stone age. There is a reason for things happening , and to prove or disprove you have to solve for the reason.

  • This is one subject where I don't know which side to choose. Back in the day I was so sure we were contributing enough gasses to fuck up the Earth. Now that I have heard otherwise, I stand on the sideline.

  • the reason venus is so hot is cause of large amounts of CO2, while mars has very little CO2 and its a cold place.

  • Those images were taken May thru Oct 2007. Would like to images from the same location from May thru Oct 09. That would add some validity to their documentary.

  • Hey retard whats up? No proof of global warming are you serious?? There is no scientist in the world that will dispute the fact that "carbon holds heat". Can you understand that? The more carbon in the air means warmer air. Do you understand. I am not a tree hugger but certainly you can understand that humans are affecting the environment. There is no disputing it. If you knew anything you would know that when it warms up 1' at equator it warms up 12' at the poles.

  • look, there may be no "proof" but look at it from this angle, ice caps are melting, the ozone layer and everything else. People have a big part in this. Like changing light bulbs, recycling, ect. And you are correct,, i think, i do understand. Please write my back. I would like to talk to u about it if u don't mind. Thanks

  • i hate watching these videos on Nova's peice of shit website. they never work!

  • this is why i dont breed! i dont want to have to say i am sorry to a child for bringing them into a world that people have totaly FUCKED!

we are all going to die!

and i mean as a species!

  • boy. i got to learn how to swim! cool vd! LOL

  • That is kinda sad in a way =/

  • When the dinosaurs became extinct, was that global warming?

  • Data from the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) has indicated a dramatic increase in sea ice extent in the Arctic regions. The growth over the past year covers an area of 700,000 square kilometers: an amount twice the size the nation of Germany.

Now that is scary! How many US capitol buildings will fit in that and what would be the scariest music to play when watching this ice form? "global warming is now politically useful."

  • cooooool ice melting!!!!1

are they going to show how it freezes 2???

  • this is all fear mongering bull shit...how come you're just filming the ice blocks breaking off? Freezing and thawing are cycles. You need to show both sides and show water that freezes!

  • isnt change natural? getting warm or cold ... it happend several times before and will happen in the future. its pretty arrogant if we say that human rase is the only reason for that.

  • BUT DON'T YOU SEE THAT HUMANS ARE RAPIDLY SPEEDING UP THE CHANGE? It's just ignorance to think otherwise.

  • how do you know, that humans are rapidly speeding it up? do you really have access to all information to compare and make an opinion? you can choose, what you want to believe in. you can choose that you blame all humans for this and ask to reverse everything without thinking about consequences, but you can choose also to accept the change and THINK about how to ensure that we all survive it. getting warm is not ONLY NEGATIVE. but of course, you can choose to look only on the dark side.

  • The amount of human activity on the planet is the only major change that has occurred in the last 150-200 years. (2 billion 1950- 7.6 billion today- human population)

Warming is not the concern it is more that climate change will be dramatic and disruptive to our abilities to feed our selves. It is incumbent for every body to use less energy and to support research into methods of feeding our selves without fossil fuels

  • "getting warm is not ONLY NEGATIVE. but of course, you can choose to look only on the dark side. "

Burning down someone's house has positive effects too, but you wouldn't see me advocating it

  • How far do you ride your bicycle in a day?

On average cars go 19 mile an hour

Bicycles get the caloric equivelent of 1000miles per gallon.

  • Wow, gotta start doing that more often

  • Sure, go on a transportation diet.

Pick a place you frequent regularly within 3 miles of where you live and use your bike to get there. Soon you will find that the route for the bike is not the route best for the car and that the biking is much more pleasant.

    Roll on!!

  • ok

    im watching

  • thats what you all get u fucking humans! i love nature and i fly high with it yo.

  • i cant wait to watch this...

  • OMG its terrible there is even global warming on Mars, o wait,...

  • WoW omg the earth is getting hotter holy shit were all guna die... retards wer just guna be a bit more tan its not like the entire world is guna get so hot it explodes i mean if it gets too bad people will go to jail for poluting blah blah blah ... not my mess u can pick it up

  • naive

  • okay maybe i did it over a bit. was in a funny mood. but from the other side you seems to me a bit naive..and your girlfriend too..do you think there is no such thing like propaganda or conspiracy?well..awrght..just dont think what u've learned in school was all true just bcoz ur well respected teacher said so..imagine what r our kids gonna learn bout 9/11..and u cant be sure that global warming is only our foul.dont be a fool :)even the scientists r arguing bout this..or u should let them know

  • -_- it seems like when anything comes up that scares people, it is accused as being a "propaganda" or a " government conspiracy"...but why would the government want to make up something which costs them thousands and thousands of dollars?

  • because the fear they generate makes them millions and millions of dollars

  • who cares thats over like 20 years! plus ur not gonna stop it.

  • true.

  • shoot...

  • HUMANS >:O

  • another conspiracy,

over one lifetime, the sun would not alter that much, that takes billions of years

im not saying i agree with humans being the reason for global warming, but we know it is happening and it is not the sun getting hotter.

  • I dont know even the scientists r still arguing on this topic... I used to study these things in my spare time and its still hanging

  • please do some research about global warming before you post your ignorant comments. global warming is a fact not a conspiracy. you're in the UK, you should have been educated on this matter already.

  • This happend in june....funny how thats also a warmer time of year in alaska. I think its shameful for national geographic to present a lie under the trusted name they have built over the years. Take a picture in january it will look different.

  • I hope the actual program doesn't use stupid comparisons like this video... "One Capitol Building" means NOTHING when you are talking about MILLIONS of SQUARE KILOMETERS of ice. The capitol building is a grain of sand in a sandbox.

  • FAKE....

    hehehe, joking

  • PROPAGANDA...

  • everyone does proganda nowadays: EGGS ARE THE BEST FOOD ON THE PLANET EARTH!!!! (turn you head around and you read) EGGS ARE KILLING YOUR CHILDREN AND VIOLATING YOUR WIFE!!!

just keep aware of a middle truth

  • Hey m3lbourn3OwnSydney, I'm a bitch as well as a witch, what's wrong with being either one of those things???? Nothing! So my little pup, Up with bitches, up with witches. beats the hell out of being in stitches and deep dark ditches. So ditch the tude and stop being rude, dude.

  • lol! here also ppl quarrel... now i realise how much water raised!

  • It is worrisome. Shit, what can we do?

  • you speak in rhymes?

  • This is for commenting, not for fighting so stop it idiot.

  • lame lolll

  • And youuu...please stop fighting!!

  • e-drama, e-fights lol...

  • what they dont tell you is that the antartic ice caps are growing at a record rate

  • How so, please refrain to a possible source or explanation please. I'm not contradicting you, I'm just curious about your analogy.

  • Frightening thought.

  • lame.

  • This is a shame

  • This is intense.....

  • that is a alot of waterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • wow shit

  • 6.5 Billion people = the altering of our planet. I don't need one ounce of scientific evidence to know something is wrong because I realize there are too many of us on a little planet. Ozone, acid rain, and now climate change. Yes we can change our planet.

  • I'm totally aware of it and it's sad. Global Warming is very real. We all must do our part for our children and their children. Before nothing is left. Thanks! ~Andree'

  • Thats some wild stuff.

  • Alright, we are so fucked.

  • lol global warming is just a myth

climate has risen to extremes in the past so stop freaking out

  • Yer human extinction, I'm excited.

  • That's right, they've risen with the human population. gold star for you.

  • this is just our world changing. not exactly a bad thing. shit just happens.

  • In Global warming, they treat the ice like ice-cream. Melting away, NNooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

  • OMG that glaciers huge

  • wtf is up with these fucking stuttuers?!

  • hey its not our fault this is happening. the gov is the one that OKAYED to have cars, boats, planes running on gas, and what they wanna us to pay for it all? always the little people??? kinda funny how they always got a camera around to show the bad stuff dont they? fuck this.

  • I agree with you to some degree

  • yeah i heard that the gov. wants to tax people on crap because of global warming. i find it to be bs. because this has happened 3 times in the billions of yrs. so how can we stop it? if millions and billions of yrs ago it happened anyways without cars and planes? just another way to tax us all.

  • This such a crock.

  • We are all doomed...literally. Less ice more heating of planet...so it is a vicious cycle and it is not slowing down but speeding up.

You think it will take years before we feel the impact? think again.

  • source please ^^

  • Wow...ummm...a source...can't give you a source right now, but what i learned was that the ice caps work as mirrors to deflect infrared light(light source that heats up the planet) from the sun.

And less ''mirrors'' means more heat accumulates and the job ends up in the ''hands'' of the other ''mirrors'' that are left over, so they end up melting because it's too much for them.

So i don't remember the name of the documentary that said it...maybe Al Gore's. Don't know for sure. i can b wrong.

  • The amount of ignorance in this thread is astounding! You believe everything you read on the internet? Try Reading the reports by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). I'm not a scientist, but I work with scientists and I trust science. Proper scientific results are published in peer reviewed journals. That means other scientists have agreed that the reasoning and methodology is sound and support the conclusions. Most of the crap you read on the internet is just crap.

    -J

  • awesome!

  • now here's the more important question: how many ice cones will that make?

  • whahahaha mingsrobot is thinking vanilla or strawberry ice cones? XD that was just freaking funny XD

but still I think climate change is something we can't stop.. 30 years back.. the very FIRST cars were tested on H²o and still we run on fossile ffuels.. HMMM then comes the question to all of us.. what is more important for the goverment? Dollars/cash/cudo's or the inviorment?

  • Ice porno :O

    wow

  • scary lulululululululluululullulululululuulululul

  • oooo...scaryyyyyy.....ice ice go bye bye

  • PBS sucks... on my view sat i have like 50 PBS channels, and i deleted all of them...

  • Hmmmmmmmm........ Climate change - let me think.... Oh yeah, it's been happening since the dawn of time.

Anthropogenic causes of climate change are little to none in the grand scheme of things.

  • its been happening for AGES, but that was called nature, it increased and then decreased, and because of humans we are increasing it more than normal so its not called nature anymore.

  • Um, did you read what I said?

    Anthropogenic = Human induced

Yes, humans are having an effect. The kicker is that if you research ice cores (please investigate), you will find that carbon in the atmosphere has been 10x what it is at currently.

So what does that mean to you and me?

    Nothing!!!

Just out of curiosity, are humans not considered a part of nature. Therefore climate change is natural?

  • it might not mean anything right now, but later on, when your grandsons come in and your long dead, and your grandsons have more grandsons then its going to be very different, Yes Humans are a part of nature, but Bombs are not natural, Polluting in a huge amounts is not Natural.

  • global warming is a myth! it's a hoax!! do some research, seriously find out the facts. just a couple weeks ago i read an article about an interview with the man who STARTED the weather channel and he totally disputes the claims that global warming is in fact true. there are hundreds of articles on the internet from trusted sources stating why and how global warming is a myth and extremely misunderstood... and why it's blamed on us people. get the facts!! use msn search, they have good articles.

  • the guy who started the weather channel has a degree in JOURNALISM - not climatology

  • This is what they call ice porno?

  • ice porno? LOL! it's PROMO not porno!

  • LMAO!!

  • That's a lot of ice.

  • i suggest that we must collect all the supplies of salt in the world and dump it all at the glaciers!!haha..

  • ahaha yeah!! that might work

  • Im just wondering.. Global Warming will melt all the Ice they say... and its a cycle it normally happens right? only we made it faster.. okay im cool with that.. i think we could survive that.. im worried about what happens next.. The ice will form again,, and it means ..extreme weather condition COLDNESS. im worried about that..

  • you should worry about it flooding the states.

  • Well since our world leader not gonna do shit.. all we can do now is wait ..... are we gonna die or not.. damn.. not in my lifetime please...

  • i see the face on an alien on the ice... O.o

  • never knew ice could be so dramatic.

  • gobal warming is a fact but this video only shows the normal drive from ice .The breakline is olways the same

  • omg...we're all going to be living in a Kevin Kostner movie...THIS MUST NOT HAPPEN!

  • A global enviromental catastrophy is never as bad a prospect as living inside a Kevin Costner movie dude. Careful u dont scare people witless!!

  • NOBODY knows what your'e talking about because only THREE PEOPLE on earth apart from yourself watched that movie.

Two of them are now dead.

And the other is certifiably insane and nobody will listen to him.

  • I've never seen the movie and never will, I'm only aware of it's existence. And it's funny how you knew which movie I was referring to even when I never mentioned the title :P

  • umm.......ZombieX13 how is global warming done.

  • It has more to do with solar activity than "greenhouse gases". In fact, that term doesn't even apply. If you want details there is great research on the subject.

I find it ridiculous that people think we have more of an impact on this planet than the sun. We can make the earth dirty but we've curbed that. Ask your grandparents about what the sky looked like over any city in the 30s before we cleaned up. We don't block out the sun anymore and we're much cleaner now in general.

  • "I find it ridiculous that people think we have more of an impact on this planet than the sun."

Except NO ONE has EVER said this-- it's a totally BS argument (called a straw man argument) to be against something no one has ever said

  • omg we r going to die

  • no.. only the ice will die

Global warming is done. We've moved into the naturally occurring cooling stage now.

  • Somebody has misinformed you. I know that there is an enormous amount of information out there and it can get very confusing sometimes. I also know that it is easier for us to believe people who tell us everything is going to be okay, rather than those who tell us we need to change the way we do things. People don't like change.

One year of cooler temperatures does not indicate a trend, the same way that one kid getting good SAT scores does not indicate that an entire school is performing well.

  • First, I'd like to say that global warming isn't man made. Let's get that out there. Secondly, it isn't going to be ok. A mini ice age is upon us. That's not going to bode well for mankind. The ups and downs have been recorded since the 1200s. Thirdly and most important, Al Gore and his ilk are a bunch of big government hacks looking to get rich off of this well documented and naturally occurring phenomenon. They don't count as science.

    And I like change.

  • First, you don't need to "get that out there". It is an opinion, and thousand of people have voiced it before you. The fact that there is disagreement is what makes science work. Scientists come up with theories and then lots of OTHER scientists try to prove or disprove those theories, by experiment. They MEASURE things. Things that can be re-measured again by other people to make sure they weren't cheating.

This is called EVIDENCE. I'm curious to see your evidence of the ice age upon us.

  • It's not called evidence. It's called the scientific method - that thing you described there. And these "things" they "measure" as you so crudely put it are observable throughout the past 800 years. Mankind is not causing global warming unless somehow the small number people on earth back in 1200 had a similar "carbon footprint" as the 6.5 Billion today.

Oh, Mars is going through climate change too. SUVs haven't made it to Mars yet. Gore is a cheater. Proof enough for me but the rest helps too.

  • The scientific method relies on evidence. An as there is a lot of evidence of glaciers retreating, global warming is real. Also you forget how dirty India and China are, and the sun has an impact on the day to day fluctuations, but only humand are releasing a large amount of carbon.

  • omg

  • the world will be underneath water... in a million years from now

OH NO, my poor great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great

    grand children

  • You left out about 39,000 "great"s, BTW. (Assuming one generation at 25 years).

But it's happening much faster than that. Some of the effects re-inforce each other. So even a relatively small change in temperature can cause a significant rise in sea-levels.

  • nothing will happen!!! YET!

we all safe !! noothing to worry about! take is easy

  • global warming can't be stopped even if it is man made or not...

  • humans are armagedon not some god.

  • All the other planets in our solar system are experiencing similar changes...

  • Who told you this? Where did you get your information? Please supply references.

  • nature, nurture, don't know if its this or that, but doesn't ice take up more volume than water, so when the ice melts, wouldn't the ocean levels recede, not come in closer?

  • take a glass of water and freeze it and it wont take up any more room, ice and water virtually take up the same space.. However... take of water with ice sticking up above the surface of the water, and melt it and it will take up more space because it is now all the same level.

  • Actually, ice takes up more space because the molecules arrange themselves in a ridged structure. H2O is the only thing that does that. Metal for example, expands when it is heated. Water the is the exception, and it expands when frozen. I agree with you that that ice below the surface as apposed to above will displace water, however, it does not take up the same space, especially when we are talking about such large quantities.

  • One word.

    Archimedes.

The level of your drink won't change once the ice cubes melt.

However, it gets a bit more complicated, because the glacial ice is FRESH water, being fozen snow. The density of fresh water is less than that of saltwater, which means it takes up more volume for the same amount of mass.

The bigger problem is the acceleration of the land-based ice due to the melting at the front of the glacier. More land-based ice reaches the sea and melts.

This ALL adds to ocean volume

  • I didnt actually know that ice took up more space than water, however what you're saying is going along exactly with my point :)

  • ice floats...great question, im goin to test that right now

  • Yeah, You know how far the environmentalists go?? they even advertise in our subway that "Don't eat meat, because poultry will fart and cause 40% of the global warming etc.", what next? eliminate the human race and perserve the Earth and animals? Environmentalists are extremists, they are the biggest threat to human and Earth, just like the movie "The day when the Earth stood still"

  • Earth is big, sea water are vast, This melting is like shedding a fingering nail or losing a hair to the Earth, no big deal. My teacher said it will balance, it's a cycle, may even be better to put more rain on Earth. who knows.

  • Do the calculations. In fact, ask YOUR TEACHER to do the calculations.

What is the coefficient of thermal expansion of water? What is the average depth of the oceans? What is the total surface area of the oceans? How much will sea level rise per degree merely as a result of thermal expansion? How big are the polar ice sheets? How deep are they? etc.

Your teacher will be dead of old age before the really serious problems start. YOU will have to deal with them.

  • lol

  • Wow.

  • lol it sucks to be you next gen.

  • its all good, climate change is a natural earth process. Change!

  • What i find funny is that people are saying this is our fault even though its naturally what occurs. When i see videos such as this, i tend to think that its intentions is to show what humans are doing. To that I laugh

  • Comment removed

  • The world has been changing since it's start. All this worrying over global warming isn't going to change what comes naturally.
