  • I Love this song it's my favorite NPH is a awesome singer and he is my favorite actor

  • Sounds like Sondheim.

  • Hahahaha love him!!! I love when he speeds up his singing! :D so adorable!!!

    Love the Rapping part!

  • I'll be your friend Neil!

  • "Neil's Turn" or "Why We Need Tech Guys"

  • 'you were great kid but you just had to die cause there's no team in I.'

    love this

  • What's with all these weird chords? lol

  • I was laughing my ass off when he started rapping :D

  • i'm really surprised how well commentary the musical was done. when i heard there could be a sequel to dr. horrible i was like "crap, they're gonna make the sequel suckkk" but this is AWESOME, which gives me hope:) and HAHAHA @ NO I CANT RAP THAT WAS PAINFUL:D

  • when he sang high i passed out a little

  • So many references to his Tony hosting gig. Like the line "Are those things real?" was a line from his opening number. And he rapped for the closing number. XD

  • @Double2Edged This commentary was made in 2008. I know NPH is awesome but I don't think he can see into the future to reference things he hasn't done yet.

  • @NK1237486 Yeah, I know, I realised that a while after I posted it. *headdesk* It just sounded a lot to me like references... though I can still pretend to believe that Dr Horrible built a Time Machine... Ray? Right?

  • The evil laugh before he started singing. Legen-wait for it mwahahahah-dary!

  • I'll charm the chicks - Are those thing real? Ha!

Do magic tricks - Was it... Three of clubs? Hoh!

    Total Barney Stinson!!! XD

  • Dear NPH,

Love you to death, but see? THIS is why actors shouldn't screw around with the lightboard.

    -Your friendly neighborhood lighting technician

  • must be awkward for neil...the whole part about charming chicks.

  • @JaimeLYNN225 ... Why should it be awkward? You HAVE seen his character Barney Stinson in "How I Met Your Mother", right? :)

  • does anybody know where I can get the piano sheet music for this? I need it for an audition.

  • "Hey Felicia, you were great, kid. But you just had to die"

  • i applaud Neil for singing with those weird chords. that was epic

  • I adored this particular song. I listened to it over and over; remarkably enough, it is still hilarious the 25th time you hear it! Great job!

Favorite moment: No, I can't rap; that was painful!

    Roflol every time.

  • LOL!!! Gotta love NPH

  • that was the single BEST rap break i have ever heard

  • Actually, after the 2011 Tony's, the world discovered he actually can rap! :)

  • Giggling heartily at the rap. This is awesome,

  • i Love this song GO NPH he is awesome

  • Haha... you can rap now Neil! :D

  • Love this! I'd say more but all the other commenters have said everything that I could possibly ever say!

  • "I'll charm the chicks -- are those things real? Ha!" Total Barney moment xD

And "I can rap: My name is Neil and I'm here to say -- wakkachikkabo -- no I can't rap... that was painful" Haha :L

  • How could NPH get any cooler? Really?

  • Of course this is supposed to be reminicent of Sondheim... the title gives it away... Rose's Turn... granted Sondheim didn't compose the music for Gypsy, but he did do the lyrics.

  • "There's a boom guy in frame. He was great!"

If he's so great, what was he doing in frame? D=

  • @RPGoddess i think he means as an extra

  • Ok, this whole song is just so flippin' Sondheim it's scary! I mean obviously Evening Primrose, but what Sondheim show wouldn't this song fit in?

  • @AudreyAndSeymour I was thinking the same thing while listening. It definitly reminded me of "Last Midnight" from Into the Woods towards the end.

  • Is my every random thought insightful? Very!

  • This song is so funny. It reminds me of something from Into The Woods. I love NPH, ^^

  • that 1 guy selecting thumbs down as a joke, must really hate himself now...

  • 'What does this switch do?

    It turns of the lights!

Now it's dark and I'm scared and alone!'

    Best part of the song

  • Every time I hear "I'll sing my own harmonies," I imagine several cloned NPH-es just singing in harmony. It is adorable.

  • Does the end of this remind anyone of the musical "Into the Woods"?

  • @xSinginSolo It just reminds me of Sondheim in general, but yes. What is waaaay more obvious though is the majority of this song resembling "If You Can Find Me, I'm Here" from Evening Primrose. (Another Sondheim show.)

  • @xSinginSolo

I thought I was the only one who noticed that!

  • "What's with all these weird chords?"

  • no more Nathan, and his bean dip... my mom and I laughed for like 48 hrs straight about that!

  • i think i'm becoming obsessed with neil :') ♥

  • this is why I love NPH <3 xD

  • I'm obsessed with how Sondheim-esque this is!

  • Hmmm this should've been Nathans song. And Neil should've got "Better than Nate" lol :D

  • That's freakin EPIC! He can harmonize with himself.

  • Lol, on the line "And I'll sound fine" he's only coming out of my left speaker.

  • I want to sing along to this, but I can't sing my own harmonies :(

  • OMG!!!! the rap part was adorable!!! Neil is just too cute!!! i wish he was straight or that i was a gay guy.... :)

  • @randomgal13 haha me too! to the first part of that lol- why are all the good ones gay?

  • "What's with all these weird chords?" lol, I love it.

  • "I'll charm the chicks -- 'Are those things real?' "

BAHAHAHAHA! no wonder he's gay! lmfao, neil is so funny

  • I liked it when he played with the knobs that changed his voice.

  • I must agree that this song was very "Into the Woods"-ish at the end. I liked it. :)

  • I am not ashamed of the fact that I'm in love with Neil Patrick Harris.

  • neil. patrick. harris. your so freakin hot. love ya to death....also wish u werent gay. lol

  • NEIL PATRICK HARRIS YOU BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL MAN.

  • I am in love with Neil's voice! =3

  • If I ever had a 1on1 with Neil or Joss, I'd ask them if this song was based on Veruca's song.

  • I LOVE how he sound like such a douche-bag in the commentary :)

  • i'm fucking in love with this p-e-r-f-e-c-t man!!!!!!!!! wow the rap part is so funny!!!

    <3

  • When I heard the rap, I laughed so hard I cried.

  • The style of the last part of the song reminds me of 'into the woods"

  • @eljeha2000 I was just about to say the same thing - it's all very Stephen Sondheim :D

  • no more Nathan with his bean dip... lol love NPH!

  • I love how he's all like "I'll charm the chicks!" when he's gay xD

  • "Are those things real? Ha! Was it the 3 of clubs? HO!" He reminds me of Wilson from House there for some reason... xD

  • Oooh, my god... "My name is Neil

    and I'm here to say

    Wakka-chukka-po

Wakka-poo--- Pbbth!" That made me laugh soooo hard.

  • OMFG!!! The rap part was AWESOME!!!!!! Greatest commentary EVER!!!!

  • @WildQueenie i thought the exact same thing that it sounded like into the woods!

  • He just sounds so helpless and huggable when he says "Somebody help..!"

And I personally think NPH has an AMAZING voice and range.. I mean, listen to him in 'Commentary'!

    "Commentar-Y!~"

He's 20 years older than me, so it's not a crush or anything, (besides, he's gay), but I still love the guy <3

  • @AmberheartDaMeddyCat Totally agree, but would you say he´s 38? I would not. :D I´d say he´s about 10 years younger. :D

  • This whole song sounds like it was written by Sondheim! It's fantastic! The main beat / flow sounds like sunday in the park with George, the end does sound exactly like into the woods, the pace of the words is like little night music, and the vocals sound like it's from assassins, lol. Best song ever. =]

  • he's like my favorite person.

  • This reminded me of into the woods for some reason. In a good way :)

  • I know what you mean. It has the same rhythmic drive - and even some of the same style of chord phrasings! - as "Last Midnight".

  • yeah...the last part sounds really like it

  • @kittenclaws That's wierd, I had the exact same reaction. Especially when the music started to fall apart towards the end. Very reminiscent of some of the witches songs.

  • bahahahahaaaa! this is so funny!!!!!

    NPH FTW!

  • Oh my goodness! The first thing I said when I heard this was "Oh my god, this is Sondheimier than Sondheim!" Love it, love it.

  • Oh God, Neil Patrick Harris is so damn cute... he's so broadway, it's awesome <3

"No I can't rap... That was painful."

  • --No, I can't rap, That was painful xD

  • Definitely heard Sondheim in there and, of course, the wonderful NPH :)

  • I find it amazing that he can convey emotion (panic) with only his voice, while still sounding terrific musically. NPH is legend - wait for it...

  • I looove NPH, thanx so much for posting :)

  • He's just so cute!

  • Sondheim = <3

    Neil Patrick Harris = <3

  • 1:28 to 1:33. YES! Neil Patrick Harris is awesome.

  • The music sounds so familiar. Like Sondheim. Maybe Into the Woods towards the end (from "What was his name?").

  • Yeah and a little West SIde Story and Sweeney Todd.

  • I thought I was the only one who heard that!!!!

  • YES! I totally agreee!!! I love Sondheim...and NPH <3

  • Comment removed

  • I'll be your friend, NPH :C

  • He does have so much talent it's a little scary. :D

  • When he goes high, it's so beautiful. I MELT.

And he DOES have so much talent it's a little scary. Hehe.

  • 1:04 ommmmg <3

  • 2:11-2:24 = my favorite part of the whole Commentary. NPH forever ♥

  • No I can't Rap, that was Painful.

    I <3 Neil=]

  • This is the best commentary ever! They should make all commentaries like this.

    Neil's voice is amazing!

  • I think my favorite part is

"No more Nathan, with his bean dip."

Just the distain for bean dip...I can hear it in his voice ;]

  • My favorite is the evil laugh right before he starts singing.

  • @cinematicadventures1 so true lol- but how can he disdain the 7-layer bean dip of the gods? :O

  • i swear i melt when he goes high

  • me too! I looove it

  • This is so Sondheim-esque! I love it!!!

  • where did the graphic come from? the comic book?

  • The range on him! Impressive! I love Neil!!

  • I love the display of his vocal range. I wish I could go that low, but no luck for a soprano.

"No I can't rap, that was painful." XD

  • LoL Nathan Frankenstein

     0:22

  • Into the Woods and Gypsy meet Dr. Horrible

  • I swore I heard Into the Woods in there! Glad I'm not the only one! :D Ah, good ol' Sondheim...

  • No more Nathan.

    With his bean dip!

  • " you're not alone neil, your just kind of a douch" lol

  • The best part other than the "alone" part is this verse, "I'll sing my own harmonies,/I'll go as low as I please./Or I'll go high..." because we get a taste of Neil's amazing range. It's pretty awesome. And Neil harmonizing with himself is both creepy and awesome. :-D

  • I get chills when he sings high.

  • @EmeraldSky33 the crazy thing is that high note doesn't even play with the top of his range ;) you should see his "Dream On" duet with Matthew Morrison.

  • No more Nathan, with his bean dip.

    XD

    Nathan's song is my favorite.

  • When Neil's alone, it sounds REALLY "Into the Woodsy"

  • Oh, my! You're right! :-D

  • i wish i had his rap as a ring tone <3

i do have his evil laugh though XD

  • Haha, I made it into one! <3

  • That plays when I log on to my computer XD

  • I liked his rap :D

  • My name is Neil

    and I'm here to say

    Wakka-chukka-po

    Wakka-poo--- Pbbth!

    hahaha!

  • Lmao Neil is so amazing <3

I love this song, it's pretty awesome.

I especially love from "Welcome everybody to my commentary" onwards =D

  • I have Nathan's godly recipe for 7 layer low fat bean dip. And it's better than you.

  • omg what is it???

  • Why wasn't the gang coming back in a part of this?

  • Look at that shot... we used cameras. <3

  • It's definitely Joss does Sondheim. Me likey.

  • Neil is great!! I love this song, it's my favorite from the commentary, which is saying a lot because all the songs are amazing. I must have listened to them a 1000 times LOL

    NPH is AWESOME!

  • Agreed - reminds me of Sondheim. Vaguely like "Last Midnight" or something from Into the Woods. Either way, it's entertaining to listen to!

  • Some Sondheim, mixed with some Frank Zappa. Some parts also have a Firesign Theater feel to them.

  • I thought of that too.

  • "Bean dip"

  • Neil is so made of win, even if he can't rap. xD

  • NooOOoOooOOOoo He can't be gay?!?!

  • ...No I can't rap, that was painful XD

  • really!!! it's sad... if he's really gay....is he?

  • sadly....yes... :(

  • If sb is fan of a gay actor, is he gay? (i've got a crush on sb and i'm a girl so i'm really much concerned by this problem :D)

  • My name is Neil

    and I'm here to say

    Wakka-chukka-po

    Wakka-poo--- Pbbth!

    --No, I can't rap,

    That was painful.

    HILARIOUS.

That part always gets me haha

  • it sounds more like gypsy...to me..idk

  • Where can I download the picture in this video?

    Thanks for posting!

  • "depressing shot!" x'D

    uh, rofl.

    nph is pretty damn awesome.

    but.. nathan's better ;DD

  • NEIL IS AWESOME!!!

    I dream about this guy!!!

    :(

He's GAAAYY! WHY MUST THE GOOD BE GAY!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    Now I wish I was a guy... :( (lol)

  • -.- It was a joke...

  • @MischiefManaged1616 I agree with you!!!!

I love when he says 'Somebody help!', I wanna hug him, but he ai'nt interested. : (

  • "What's with all these weird chords?"

    deff sounds like Sondheim lol

and NPH really does have "so much talent, it's scary" =)

  • This song sounds...Into The Woods-y

  • OMG! I thought this too!!!!! But I didn't think anyone else would know Into the Woods!

    Cheers

    xx

    p.s Love Bernadette Peters!

  • me too! i <3 that show!

  • I find that it sounds like Sondheim's musical in general. The lyrics are definitely reminiscent of "If They Can Find Me, I'm Here" from Evening Primrose, which Joss most likely had seen Neil perform at that Wall to Wall Sondheim event a few years back. Asking if anyone's there, stating that he's alone, etc.

  • I definitely thought the exact same thing (Into the Woods-y) the first time I heard it. Crazy awesome!

  • DUDE!

    my thoughts EXACTLY!

    O.o

and who DOESN'T know Into the Woods??? seriously. i might have to kick some ass if you dont :O

  • My name is Neil

    And I'm here to say

    Wakka chukka po

    Wakka poo - pbbbth...

I LOVE THAT LINE! MAKES ME PML EVERY TIME!!! Hahahahahahaha!

    Cheers

    xx

  • Okay, I love it when he sings "I'm a luminary".

  • I like the ring modulator knob part.

  • [Neil makes seven figures, and gets Emmy nods

I make seven layer bean dip of the gods!]

No more Nate and his bean dip!

  • Nice rap! It's might just be worse then mine, lol. HILARIOUS!!!! I LOVE NEIL!

  • You're not alone. You're just kind of a douche!

    We're here WITH you, Neil!

    We've resolved all our conflicts!

    Comeonwe'veonlygotthreesecondslefteverybodybehappyYAAAAAAY.

  • "Or I'll go high..." was quite possibly the most angelic note I've ever heard NPH sing. I love when parodies are done by people who know their stuff!

His breakdown at the end is hilarious, too.

  • Absolutely.
