I literally have no idea what she's singing. But regardless of that, it sends chills up my spine. When I played MGS1 and heard this song, the title did not disappoint. "The Best is yet to Come" You're damn right Kojima, then I played MGS2, traveled back to the past with MGS3, Portable Ops and Peace Walker, then one final time, I fought along side Solid Snake in his final days. In my opinion, no other game franchise will ever reach such a level of emotion.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as the Metal Gear series. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
I just realised this was Irish. The same Irish we have to learnin Ireland for about 12 stinking years. I am SO gonna improve on my Irish now for my final year in school :)
just so every body knows these are not the correct lyrics and the song was not sung by Rika Muranaka she wrote the song, Aoife Ní Fhearraigh sang the song which is sung in gaelic the national language of ireland. the more ya know!
I hear this song, and look back to when i beat MGS1. The feeling of pride and accomplishment comes to me. Tears come afterwards. This game is so amazing. (:
@theHermann94 Hehe, when I played this as a kid, me and my friend always thought 'The sun is a shit in our mouths' Funny you heard something similar too
the whole entire Metal gear series has just been one of the greatest series ever, not like Call of Duty, no MGS is in my opinion WAY better then Call of Duty
@JackKrouser ARE YOU ON CRACK?!?!?!? Call Of Duty sucks ass compared to MGS! Besides, at least in MGS it's not entirely necessary to kill. Not to mention, Call Of Duty doesn't really make you laugh...UNLESS you're sense of humor is watching civvies bleeding to death all around you in an airport.
@kiozai I know thats what i'm saying, metal gear is just awesome, and i think hideo kojima or whoever took over for him, could've done a whole lot more with the story
avrei sempre voluto farle sentire questa canzone..abbastanza pura ed esotica da piacerle.. ma è stata una di quelle cose che rimandavo sempre e lo dimenticai..ormai è tardi
@razmus88 Yes i saw it someone show me....and yes i cry...because my father was murder in the snow protecting my mother and big knife struck in his heart and my mother....gave birth to me and my brother in this weather...they thought i was dead w/no pluse in the snow but was but back to life 2 hours my mother wander in snow to safe haven because i didn't cry coming out so yes...just why i...feel...alone:(and didn't know my blood family untill 19yrs old now...23yrs old.
nice song and nice words ... and know that u are not alone ... there are many of us that thing the same way as u do (at least me ) ... be strong be happy believe and live sooner or later u will find your way coz this is life about finding your oun path ... to be able to feal what is good and what is wrong ... we need to learn (pain , happines , fear , guilty, love ...) so that we can understand and in the end everything will be clear to us as watter ... just dond give up and dont hate others
Ah, damn... so sweet memories. I'm so glad that the first MGS can be purchased from PSN... now I can replay it any time I want on my PSP. ^^ The Metal Gear series is just perfect.
" A cornered fox is more dangerous than a jackal! " :P :)
played mgs1 for the first time when i was only 8, and even then this music captivated me... now 19 this feels so nostalgic makes me want to cry, wish i was 8 again so i could relive it for the first time
@jaranarm i was actually asking a question, but had it answered.the lady is Japanese, but singing celtic. But i am affraid ive not been able to find mgs4 soundtrack either.but you have found the original track?that is awesome!! I have the originals, Mgs1 and vr missions..never did get game cube so dont have any for that.MGS2 ps2,MGS3 ps2,MGS2 Solidus.MGS3 Snake Eater.or is it the other name Solidus too?I forget sometimes.I am a student so got alot of things that need to be done it has 2 cd for MGS3
@wapaha ah, but you can pick up the track for your ipod while you're at shadow moses. right after you beat crying wolf, it's in the building before you head underground. i listened to it over and over again after i picked it up. especially since the song fits the somber mood of the entire shadow moses portion of the game.
To be honest, the second I heard this song in MGS4 while entering shadow moses, I cried. First time I ever cried over a video game. This game was fucking GREAT!!!!
Im only 13 so Ive never played MGS1 but when I heard this when playing MGS4 I HAD to find out the name of this. Its a beautiful song and has a really deep meaning to it. Probably the best song ever created and intended for a video game. :D
@Puferu It plays at the end, and an instrumental version is a kind of theme for the emotional parts of the game. *Otacon talking about his past, the scene with Meryl before Psycho Mantis, and a few others.*
Man I fucking love this song! I played it for my Girlfriend and she damn near cried. Then she punched me when I told her it was from a video game. Anyway, this game will always hold a special place in my heart.
When i first played M.G.S. i was about 12, when i beat the game and come to the end where credits where this song brought tears to my eye's even not understanding what the words where but feeling with my heart i could feel sadness i'm 24 now still i feel sorrow. (cry's)
@omegabkg Same here! As soon as this song played as I approached shadow moses supply depot I was like holy shit I remember this song! I've only played the first MGS and MGS4 wish my ps3 was backwards compatible so I could get all of them lol
@omegabkg i think that's part of what made that game so epic. i've spent a lot of time playing video games in my life, and i don't think i've ever come across one where the musical score was so powerful and fit the mood of the game so perfectly. MGS was a great game, that's for sure. but, i think that what made it truly legendary was how the music makes you feel what the characters in the game are feeling.
@omegabkg Though I didn't actually cry, this summed me up rather well. It is truly amazing what a song can do to you, or for you. Be it enable your creativity, or help you emotionally. Heck, sometimes it just makes you thoughtful! But it is a true treasure to find something like this, and carry it with you throughout life. Here's hoping that we all find many more treasures like this song in our travels. :)
@DISTURB3D001 The full song was on mgs1 at the end credits while Alaskan footage is being displayed, the first part of the song also appears on the beginning tho... there should be a movie about mgs1 with this song.
I remember listening to this as a little 7 year old while my dad was teaching me how to play Metal Gear Solid. I wish I payed more attention to this song as a child because this song is really beautiful. If only American music was more like this, then I would be so incredibly happy. :)
I remember hearing this at the end of MGS1 for GC. I could never understand the lyrics. Now that the song is translated it actually means something to me. Even though the lyrics may be simple they are still very deep.
words and ideas don't always translate to exact phrases we are familer with and sometimes words lose there impact with direct translation, read the words listion to the song feel the emotion convayed and use your imagination alil bit. you'll probably like it better.
as I said translations arent exact the grammer for galic is not the same for english, the most direct translation was probably made so that the audeince would'nt lose anything, anyways I suppose we will have to agree to disagree on the point.
No havent been a kid in years you wanna go be alil arrogent prick on youtube... go right ahead eventually everyone else is gonna do what I do ignore you.
I meant no offense by that, but it makes me question how mature you are. An adult wouldn't have thrown an insult over a mere question.
You can ignore all you want, but you'll find that its the childish thing to do aswell. Adults always handle thing by talking through the situation, not ignoring it. Reminds me of a bunch of so-called "adults" from L5R. You act just like them.
The grammar is as it should be in Gaelic, but when you put it into English, it just doesn't work the same way. Also I like how you bash the lyrics of this song, then immediately follow up by saying "lirics". Probably an honest mistake, but still makes you look like a muppet. Also who the hell cares about grammar in a song like this anyway? It's only marginally relevant to the song, and as you should know, most people on youtube are not linguists, so just enjoy the music.
@Dictator300 lol good comeback :D you guys are funny.. and btw, theres nothing wrong with being a kid, make the most of it while you still can, and regret nothing. There are great thingsabout being a kid, like having no "money worries" or bills lol. and being a kid doesnt make you immature, testosterone does LOL :D
I cried like a lil' bitch when I first heard this beautiful song once again in MGS4. The memories came back like a flash flood. Any hardcore MGS fans out there know what I'm talking about. We were all just kids back in 98'.
After the return to Shadow Moses, Hideo Kojima can do no wrong now. He really knows how to play with ones emotions.
Creepy... I played this nearly a decade a go and have been learning Irish for 12 years... only copped on now that its Irish...Brings back so many memories....
Aoife Ni Fhearraigh, that's what she called herself in written english dumbass!! Don't know? go to any search engines and look up her name. read my username and bug-off!!
from what I've found, this was by some Irish "new age" singer by the name of Aoife Ni Fhearraigh. Rika muranaka didn't sing the song. Rika muranaka was the composer and director behind this song.
How would it be better??? The beauty is in the sound you hear from this language. It would not retain the beauty if changed to English, they'd have to change the lyrics to make it sound similar, like they do with different language versions of the songs found in disney movies.
its being sang by aoife ní fhearraige ..not rika muranaka sorry to tell ya'll...and yea its As Gaeilge agus is é an t-amhrán is fearr liom...na aon amhrain eile!
Snake wasn't a villian, and Ocelot wasn't a hero. They were both going towards the same aim in two completly different ways, but Ocelot wasn't truly evil.

I Love this song.
It is sung by Aoife Ní Fhearraigh, an Irish singer.
As for the language, the song is performed & sung in Irish/Gaeilge.
Rika Muranaka wrote the song in Japanese & it was then translated to Irish.
for sound-track of Metal Gear Solid & MGS4 video games.

from what I've found, this was by some Irish "new age" singer by the name of Aoife Ni Fhearraigh. Rika muranaka didn't sing the song. Rika muranaka was the composer and director behind this song.

very good song and video. my two favorites of all the mgs series is this, guns of the patriot and father and son (witch make my cry a bit)
matawin2 2 years ago
How would it be better??? The beauty is in the sound you hear from this language. It would not retain the beauty if changed to English, they'd have to change the lyrics to make it sound similar, like they do with different language versions of the songs found in disney movies.
Or so I guess..
Xeno867 2 years ago 4
I agree, I speak Irish and English, and this song just wouldn't sound as beautiful in English, the whole structure of the song would be changed.

It's sung by a woman named Aoife Ní Fhearraigh, you should look for some of her other songs in Irish.

Snake wasn't a villian, and Ocelot wasn't a hero. They were both going towards the same aim in two completly different ways, but Ocelot wasn't truly evil.

It is the fact he wasen't evil that makes him the best antagonist ever.
