However, the theological objection to living in a democracy is a peculiar one, as there are no truly Islamic states on the planet. Sufis have never known to be violent & weren't even remotely connected with 9/11. It's a done deal now,with some modifications & I welcome it to that downtown area which is still struggling to rebuild itself after 9/11.

Why has CNN become so biased? This is why their 28 in the ratings. Even TNT beats them in the ratings. How low CNN has fallen in the quality of its' reporting and in its' use of overtly biased anchors. I like Anderson Cooper, but this is why he has about 27 viewers at any one time watching his show. Report the news Anderson, don't insert your views into it as it belies any claims you make to impartiality.

A vast majority of the Muslims in the U.S. are converts (i.e. live here all of their lives previously practicing another religion or none at all) and some whose parents immigrated here, but they were born here. Those count for the majority of the Muslims living in the U.S. and they've never lived under Sharia law.
When I hear attacks against Sharia financing, I can only imagine greedy bankers attacking that!! Banks only pay 1¼% interest; but charge 20%+!!

Actually worryingly according to Gallup poll that's not the case.
People with no knowledge of qu'ran or Prophet are most likely to have "no prejudice" against Islam.
People who know a little about Muhammad's life are about twice as likely to have some prejudice against Islam.
However, also people that don't know a muslim are more likely to be prejudiced.
So while part of the problem is ignorance of muslims as nice people, the rest may be some knowledge & dislike of Islamic beliefs.

I would put myself in that category. i know a lot about Islam, i know it has no connection inherently with terrorism, i know suicide bombers are sinners, and so forth. It's not violence that bothers me but the POLITICAL ideology of around 10 - 20% of Western muslims that actively campaign for the advancement of Islam in Western society, they want more than just a small contribution if you like.
I don't know if Islam is compatible with true democracy & freedoms, so it concerns me.

I think a useful principle is everything in moderation (the ancient Greek principle: μηδὲν ἄγαν). That applies to just about everything on Earth and in life.
There has to be balance and difference. The consequences of zealousness might be a philosophy of violence to achieve objectives (terrorism, or Catholic inquisition). Or an unhealthy lack of compromise with fellow man. Zealousness can lead to as much harm as excessive liberty.

Only a zealot could call all forms of democracy haram by definition. The fact they usually allow greater representation to non-muslim majority is irrelevent. I don't read in Muhammad's life fastidious adherence to a totally unambiguous collection of laws (such is impossible). e.g.Some muslims scholars declare ALL music haram but Muhammad & Ai'sha sometimes relaxes listening to musicians. Puritans are reacting to sexualized songs, and in a panic are projecting this onto all music.

Hmm...i think we all know that that Surah was written prior to all the fighting in Medina, at a time when Muha was reaching out to Jews & Christians as potential allies! He had little power so tolerance was a necessity.
A few battles later, after expulsions of Jewish tribes, & the tone changes greatly. Allah starts to revel in torturing Jews and Christians doesn't he (e.g. Surah 98:1-8, 5:72-73, 9:30 (Allah's CURSE!)?
