@trancedsailor It usually depends on the trim level that you get when you purchase the car. For example, the RS might not have the filter accessible but the GTS might. Sometimes it's also a dealer installed option.
@filterheads Gotcha. My gf has a 2004 Eclipse GT Spyder. She said Midas told her to replace the cabin filter, so I followed your excellent guide, but behind the glovebox where you removed the 2 filter screws, hers has no screws. I tried pulling and it wouldn't come out. Maybe it's stuck in there pretty tight? I'll try again later, but not sure why the screws wouldn't be there if there are holes for them...
@npgfunk The 2006 Eclipse doesn't normally come with a filter housing and cover, however there seems to be a kit you can buy from the dealer that can be installed in your car. Either way the plastic would have to be cut, however you would need the kit to install a filter after cutting the plastic.
Mine is also sealed up , no screws and i cant pull out the darn thing , i guess I will have to cut it , aint getting charge 60 bucks for something easy as it looks .
@MartialArtKick I have an 01 rs as well and I have the same thing u said. I think it was a dealer option. Honestly idk, but the dealer wants some 70 bucks to change it. If u find something out let me know.
PLEASE HELP! MY AIR FILTER ON MY 01 ECLIPSE IS LIKE SEALED OR NOT EVEN ABLE TO COME OUT. PLEASE HELP! THANKS. I'm so close to cutting it out. But don't want to. Let me know
@vicbariv We have the 2006 Galant cataloged under our AQ1060 video. Some vehicles may not be equipped with filters, but it looks like you can install one yourself. We haven't gotten our hands on a Galant yet to check.
This Video is really great and easy to follow. But my car does not have screws that hold the housing cover. my unit looks kinda sealed up. What do you suggest that I do?
@Jamalhack - It sounds like you have a 1999 model. That year, the cabin filter was a dealer-installed option. You can take it to a Mitsubishi dealer, and they will cut the cover open and provide the screws that you see. From that point on, you can change the filter yourself (like you see in this video).
Why would some cars have removable filter and others sealed?! I don't get it.

Isnt there a way to do this for the 2006 Eclipse GT? I have a new replacement filter. I was told you have to cut out the opening but it is there.
