when dick fosbury first started doing his "flop" technique, most people just chuckled at the idea of it, but now every olympic high jumper uses the flop. who's to say that donald thomas hasn't created his own jumping form that will shatter the world record?
@cdreynolds55 the only thing is that the "flop" was designed to distribute the mass of their body so they could get over the bar easier, I can't see how his "technique" can make an improvement compared to fosbury. That being said I think Donald Thomas is an awesome jumper and I'd love to see him clear 2.46 ;)

We are just stating the obvious. Thomas' technique is not as effecient as the likes of Holm or Sotomayor. And these guys have jumped higher than him, many times. But he's only been jumping since Jan 06 so this is what you'd expect.

No...his form in comparison to REAL high jumpers like Holm, Harris...and TONS of others, is absolute garbage. However, he compensates with unbeleivable hops. If he maximized his approach, arch, and others details...he will easily have Sotomayer's world record.

Secondly, javier has been retired since 2001, and holm has only jumped 2.30 this year.. i say ONLY, b/c the man is hands down the most consistent high jumper on planet eart.. over 2.30m over 100 times!
I went to elementary school with Donald and I can assure you he is not doping. In the Bahamas there is such raw talent, but usually there is lack of coaching. For the most part we jumped rope, ran, and practice things such as high jump during our physical education classes. Then, you could tell who the athletes were and who werent. Its amazing that Donald is doing so well at such a late stage in the process. It just goes to show what type of talent lies out there
he's got a good coach...I am his teammate. I posted the video. Our coach has coached a several 7'10 jumpers and a few olympic medalists...He just didnt want to change much so soon with ncaa nationals and stuff...with new technique he would get worse before better

He's not. Doping for the high-jump is not like for the 100 m dash where you can grow more muscles by eating steroids. More muscles would rather be hindering Thomas' jumping.
IMO hes running with his head down, little knee lift and with a very low centre of gravity. Hes also clearing over with little arch and his head higher than his hips. But hes an awesome jumper! He just has average technique for someone who hasnt been doing it that long when comparing to holm, thornblad etc jumping similar heights.
The #1 high jumper in the world is stephan holm his pr is 2.40m or 7'10".5
