FAKE! But quite well done. Some of the other commenters should develop a sense of humour. BTW 'I'll Be Back" from a Hard Days Night was recorded in 3/4 time before John found it, 'too difficult to sing' and changed to 4/4.
@kettlezone Maybe this genuine outtake sounds fake, but that is accounted for in the video description: "John Lennon argued this made the phrasing awkward and the result sound similar to bad editing".
THIS has got to be one of the worst editing jobs I've ever seen outside of a Justin Bieber recording session. I mean for christ's sake, you just RUINED this song. NO. Shut up. I don't want to hear it. Now go sit in the corner and think about what you've done, and don't DARE leave that corner 'til YOU'RE GENUINELY SORRY. And yes, you will in some way find this funny, mostly because it's true, and you will find yourself jealous of my acerbic wit, superior IQ, and actual WORKING EARS YOU PRICK.
All the overdubs and instrument parts are the same as the 4/4 version. This includes sounds / touch / notes / timbres / voicings / mix levels . This is a HACKED edit of the 4/4 version. Okay it's not stupid. It's FRAUDULENT, FAKE, BADLY DONE, MISREPRESENTIVE, FAUX, QUASI, and f**ked up. And the story of George Martin wanting No Reply in 3/4 is a lie, an urban myth. Ask any professional audio engineer if this is hacked. It doesn't even make musical sense. "Experimental use of reverb?" Pathetic.

Har har har. Do you think you can do the opposite with "Baby's In Black" (change it from 3/4 to 4/4)? Of course, the group attempted to record "I'll Be Back" as a waltz (on the first "Anthology" CD) but that turned out to be too difficult. Lennon & McCartney's first waltz was the Cilla Black tune "It's For You."
Haha, that's a challenge! I always get 3/4 and 6/8 mixed up... Baby's In Black sounds 6/8 to me but I know John Lennon described it as a fast waltz. This Boy and Yes It Is have a similar beat, are they 3/4?
By the way, your name isn't a reference to the 60s band featuring Jeff Lynne is it?
"This Boy" and "Yes It Is" are 50s doo-wop style tunes that are in 4/4, but each quarter note is divided into triplets. In other words, if you were to count along to either of them in waltz time, you'd have to keep saying "One Two Three One Two Three" awfully fast. "Babys In Black," "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away," "Norwegian Wood," "Yer Blues," and "Dig A Pony" however, are all genuine waltzes.
And yes, I named myself after the obscure 60s group that sounded like Sgt. Pepper era Beatles.
For the first few seconds I was thinking, "great, that's just what we need - another YouTube jackoff trying to pass off shoddy, amateur remix/edit/mashup/sample/overdub jobs as genuine bootlegs." But I really got to hand it to you - the result's a really cool and well-executed reimagining of the song, even on the words "than any other guy" and "when you gave me no reply," when it almost didn't work - but did! Cool other videos too (especially "Yer Birthday") - keep it up!
Somewhere there is an outtake of Lennon trying to sing this song this way--he can be heard saying to George Martin that the song was too hard to sing that way.
Very special. I prefer the original 4/4 time version but once again you've done a great job.

How about if you hack it and edit it until you have 19/8 time? Kind of a Mahavishnu-meets-the-Beatles hybrid vibe.

It was a suggestion from George Martin to outdo Tennessee in it's waltz.
The Beatles tried that approach with 'No Reply' & decided it was awful!
You can hear on some of the sessions where John is berating George
Martin, "With a producer like you, who needs Dick Rowe??? Go waltz on
your own time & get stuffed!!!!"

Since when is 'Yer Blues' a waltz?
And 'Baby's in black' is 6/8 imo.
TheoBlonk 1 year ago
I agree with MightyZoom. Fake indeed.
You can hear it in Lennon's singing. It would be an unnatural way of breathing.
TheoBlonk 1 year ago
@TheoBlonk
Lennon was experimenting with his breathing a lot around this time.
