My family has been reading this story for 4 generations. we have the original paper article that was published in 1874 in the Our Home Advocate and Industrial School Record. Everytime I hear it I am transformed back to that small nursery and the two tiny souls that wouldn't be detered in there beliefs. We have also a viedo recording of my Aunt who is 86 reading the story. I am so happy to see so many others who enjoy the story as well

First off - you read it - the way it should be - what a wonderful gift of story telling you have - I hope you read more. This was tradition of my Mother's back in the 60's - I had no idea the poem was so old - it was alive in my childhood every year.
It was wonderful to hear it again and share it with my partner -who has never heard it. Thank YOU!

I love it! This poem is new to me. I want to read it to my daughter every year from now on. Ms. Bittinger has a wonderful talent reciting this. Very good.

It's been an oral tradition in my family to have a reciting of this poem every Christmas Eve...
It's been lovingly devoted to my father's memory (and now one of my sisters'), which they would always read by heart of course. This is such a beloved piece and I am so warmed to find that others cherish it as much as my family does. Thank you so much for taking the time to record this and share it!
