  • great insight

  • good

  • really nice

  • TUYET VOI, BAC CHAN TU KHA KINH

  • @baothisg youre probably right, but caps was probably also unnecessary, no matter what it meant. ?

  • I know the desire to "know" is it's own misery.

I concentrate on misery, can't seem to escape.

  • Trees growing beautifully in the stillness. Trees blowing beautifully in the wind. Admiration for one who wants to know. And commits. Admiration for trees growing beautifully in the stillness. I stand wanting, wanting, wanting to know. Don't know what. Wish I knew what others know. Beautiful wind in beautiful trees. I saw a beautiful wind in front of beautiful trees. Just wish I knew.
  • she still gives the impression of ignorance despite being a student of buddhism

  • @Pawnbroker00 everyone is evolving in his/her pace.do not be judgemental

  • That name given to you is your "student name"

  • In Buddhism, when you become a student , the master chooses a name that best suites you ( mainly by your personality). they try to find a name that best fits you.

  • how does she have a vietnamese name? she's clearly caucasian right?

  • Im afraid she still got an ego.. She's doing this all for herself. True happiness cannot come from klinging to a teacher. Or words/ teachings at all.

    May her ego be removed.

  • why u changed ur name why u changed ur dress u dont need to do that to be in truth truth has no shape or name or features..i like budhism teacher but what i dont like is that people give him an sian shape becasue its universal.

  • Very nice words

  • you are doing good

  • Sounds inspiring - it's not only Tibetan and Zen traditions where there have been teacher/pupil issues - this has also happened in a certain western Buddhist order.

  • H'ohkay, I have a question. When talking about Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh I've been pronouncing his name phonetically. How do you correctly pronounce it? Is it really 'Tai' something, or is that just a nickname?

I would be grateful if someone would please clear away my ignorance.

Namaste to all, Buddhist, Muslim, Christian, Pegan, Athiest-- all who do no harm.

  • Thay is kind of a nickname that his students call him. It means "teacher" in Vietnamese. His name is pronounced "tick nyat hawn".

ps~ Way to think in a non-dualistic way and recognize the oneness and "interbeing" of all religions and practices. Namaste.

  • Thank you so much for the response!

  • As a Buddhist, it is important to know what is kusala from the akusala. Examine the act or thinking whether it promote more greed, hatred and delusion is akusala and the opposite is kusala. A mind dwell in akusala will never get out of akusala. Direct the mind to the kusala by right effort as stated in the Noble eight path. Check whether sex happen, and is it associated with greed and lust or even hatred. Then is easy to understand. Let go of it. Direct the mind to the kusala. This is the way.

  • ADVICE TO THOSE WHO ARE THINKING OF TAKING UP ISLAM!

You'll become like this Muslim here!

  • A couple years ago, I was Muslim for a little while, until I found my self angrily wishing that Allah would have mercy on the children of a very self-centered bus driver, because I knew she was going to burn in Hell. I finally turned to Buddhism not long after that, realizing that everyone has issues that make them feel like the victim. Nothing has given me more peace than the words of the Buddha. May you also find peace.

  • Live as you wish! You will realize your stupidity at the time of your death. And it WILL be too late then!

  • @TimCubUAkbar Have you ever studied Sufism? I ask because I hear that Sufism is the most mystical and "free" form of Islam.

  • @TimCubUAkbar Very intersting,

    may you be happy,

    may you attain Nirvana.

  • Follow islam and become an intolerant selfrightuous bigot like you? A terrorist in the making? No thank you. I would rather be begging for food and go bare feet than go about blowing up people and spewing hatred.

  • One of the things I most like about this video, is the down-to-earth language and sensibility she displays. Good work - a pleasure to watch and listen to.

  • Quang Kiệt an ủi Lý thông :

"Tám năm tao sẽ rửa xong tội mày ,

Yên tâm cầu nguyện trong này

Con Chiên tao đ... giúp mày Lý ơi !"...

Lý rằng : "Câm mẹ mày đi

Sáu mươi tám tuổi còn gì thân tao ,

Ngoài kia sung sướng biết bao

Nghe mày xui dại tao vào nhà giam !"...

"Phục hưng" "Phục Wuắc" nỗi gì

Đầu hai thứ tóc ngu si thế này !!!

  • I spent a month at Plum Village; definitely worth doing. Some of the practices were really hard for me: I didn't realise how attached I was to living in the past and future, and how difficult it was to live without all my usual distractions and addictions.

  • you get the teacher you deserve.

  • Dear Tony. Thanx for very nice letter. I can see your point. I know one very well known Indian guru, Sathya Sai, to acctually have done some (bad) things to his students, but apparently that is quite well known. I know of other cases like that too. On the other hand - as far as I know, Master Hanh has never done a thing like that.

    All the best

    Johan

  • I think it's most disgusting and very unpleasant to talk about teachers taking advantage of their students physically. Shouldn't we just stop babbling about that, and get further - doing something good instead?

  • There is nothing wrong in addressing reality and facing facts. To do otherwise is to engage in a form of self-deception; intellectual dishonesty. Teachers are human; always have been, always will be. Mistakes will be made, error will occur.

Nothing that we do under the Sun is perfect or infallible.

  • I have heard Thich Nhat Hanh ask, "what good is any practice if it does not bring joy"? It's wonderful to see how much joy Sr. Nhu expresses. Monastics in Plum Village & Deer Park have inspired me with their kind example. I was inspired to make a little meditation video using Thay's poems. Thanks

  • What do you mean by "taking advantage of one´s student"? What, if both agree?

  • If the relationship is teacher and student, in many people's opinion it will never be an equal relationship between them.

But I'm not sure what your point is. She is specifically talking about sexual scandals. I think that the fact that he hasn't been accused of anything is a good thing. So would msot people.

  • That is what she is talking about - he doesn't take advantage of anyone. I think that is a good thing. It has nothing to do with whether sexuality itself is impure.

  • Buddhist monks practice celibacy.

  • Why do they have to practice it? Should it not come naturaly? Anyway, celibacy is un-natual.

  • Part of Buddhism is the conscious denial of the will to live. The sexual impulse is one of the, if not the most, powerful urge which ties us to the round of birth and death, aka Samsara, which is precisely what Buddhists are trying to overcome.

  • Have you ever heard about Tantra? As a nun probably not. Tantra uses sex to overcome sex. Then you are done with it.

Monks and nuns are just avoiding sex without knowing it. Why must you deny the will to live? Understand life that will be enough. Repressing your sex urge will not get you out of samsara.

  • Tantra means "secret" but it doesn't imply something hidden. For example, the secret to riding a bike is balance. There are lots of tantras in buddhism and the one you refer to is an additive from individuals who were obsessed with their sexual desire. Buddhists don't suppress sexual desire, but instead it is transformed by seeing into the desire. Then you naturally no longer chase after it. But having sex to get rid of sex won't work because the desire is not being dealt with so will reoccur.

  • Do you think sex is something impure?

You are already stuck in a tradition: look at your shaven head and your robe.

  • Do you feel the need to dump on somebody else's beliefs?

Sex isn't impure, but I thought not taking advantage of one's students was a good thing.

  • Thanks for sharing, it was wonderful hearing from you, Sister Nhu Nghiem.

  • "Monks, this holy life is lived, not for the sake of deceiving people, not for the sake of inveigling people, not for the sake of the rewards of gain, offerings, & tribute, nor with the thought, 'Thus may people know me.' This holy life is lived for the sake of restraint & abandoning." (Itivuttaka)(Duk. I,8) (It. 28)

  • For Nhat Hạnh và Chân Không

    213. From affection, grief is born,

    from affection fear,

    one who is affection-free

has no grief -- how fear?

    213. Ái luyến sinh sầu ưu,

    Ái luyến sinh sợ hãi.

    Ai giải thoát ái luyến

    Không sầu, đâu sợ hãi?

  • i love her look!
