  • Omg ur twist look amazing up and down idk wat u tlking about

  • i have the same problem looser textures dont seem to look as great with mini twist, not to mention they just dont stay twisted as long! lol and it sucks cuz i love the way they look!

  • I don't know what u r looking at in the mirror but your hair looks FANTASTIC!!!!!! Leave the twists down, they look great.

  • you have awesom hair and this was only the first mini twist so try it again....work it girl!

  • any natural style you have looks great!

  • what are you talking about you look great

  • you are so beautiful Taren, i

  • I actually like the size of your twists and think they came out nice. You did a good job. I twist all the time, but I am growing my bob out. I had my hair cut this summer so now my twists worn out make me look juvenile as well, so I opt for a nice scarf and tie it back. Wearing your twists out is very attractive. Love it!

  • love it!!! Pull it up at the sides and wear a headband or scarf. I think they are a nice deviation from your regular styles.

  • @taren916 THAT IS CUTE!!!

  • Learned something new! I didn't know Naptural85's name was Whitney! And your hair is so cute! You should try mini twist again!

  • Taren u look cute! up or down they look good. u dont look young at all.

  • they look so good! You better rock that :)

  • I think they look nice down...i think you should have tried rolling them one night to see if u might have liked that better. at any event they looked great and the twist out even better. ;-D

  • Girl i get wut u sayin about wearin it down lol. I'm 15 and I just did some bigger twists because I just wanted to try it and i was bored lol and I was gonna do a twist out and I just noticed how I look like a 10 year old with them down lmbo.

  • i liked this style on you. its kinda like you can see what your hair looks like if you were to loc it!!

  • that twist looks GOOOOOOOOOOOD!

  • Wow, I actually liked it down? I don't think it makes you look child-like at all? But I'm sure it's something you have to practice wearing and get use to seeing yourself in.

  • The twists look wonderful down! And only 3 hours??? That's fast! They also look good up, but how they look down reminds me of the kinky twists I got right after my big chop back in '08. ^___^ I need to find headbands like the one you're rocking here. I love it!

  • I understand how you feel about twists...to a T! LOL When i do my twists it's like my hair gets "un-curly"...and then when I take the twists out my hair is just limp and has no life! :( But I think we have quite similar hair type mine might be just a little thicker. Any ideas?

  • @curlsofazul when u do your twists u can braid them and they will be curly.

  • your hair in twists looks nice down. the twists kinda look like kinky twist when they are down.

  • I like ur hair style..really cute..where did u get ur head band frm?

  • no no no it looks gorgeousssssss

  • You look so pretty Taren! I understand how being comfortable is the most important part of Rockin a new do, but if it's any consolation, you look beautiful! I may try these 1 day but I have A LOT of hair & I tend to be lazy when it comes to twist. I might wake up a week later with Accidental dreads Lol. Love your vids & your positive channel!

  • it looks good to me. it holds the twist better then my daughter's hair

  • omgosh! i have natural curly hair too and i love the twist! u did a really good job i think it looks pretty!

  • Twist outs tend to dry my ends out, and at one time, they actually broke off! But I looooove twists out- so I've tried another way. Braid the twists, take out the braids, so the twists look very curly and full, and the ends are still protected. A twist twist out as

Pretty Dimples calls them. Check out Pretty Dimples' channel, too. She's another hair heroine of mine.

Yes, for a first attempt at mini twist , Taren, you did fantastically well!

  • 3 hours is pretty good going for getting those beautiful twists done!

I condition wash my hair , while they are twisted, then condition again, and while my hair is still moist, undo one twist, then re-twist , until they're all done, and that takes 4hours. Because they are conditioned and moist, they're easier to twist and take out, if I so wish. Dry twist, while making your hair look longer, is more difficult to work with for me ( gets tangled up!)

  • DearNaptural is ace!! I love her videos and her hair twists. She is cool.

Also check out KInkyKurlyQueen, who is an ARTISTE, when it comes to tiny twists and braids. Magnificient.

Hey, I love all your videos, Taren. Love the red lip stick, too! :) x

  • Twisting technique is about what works for you. Dry or wet twisting. I prefer wet twisting ( after washing/conditioning hair, as it's a lot easier!) I learned the hard way, as there was no youtube, when I decided to wear twists.

They really look lovely on you, Taren!!!! :) x

  • I absolutely love your twists- up or down. There is no way, that they look juvenile. They're also a lovely size and length. I wear my hair in mini twists ( for the past 12 years or so) and as everyone says, it's practice, practice, practice! They are versatile and can be styled almost like loose hair ( put up, braided, rolled, pinned back, whatever your imagination says!

My twists are about your length, shoulder length and full.Braiding them at night, gives them a ringlet look in the morning

  • I love naptural85 too! I too took a while before I got my twists right. Her channel is the best! I love your hair!

  • lol your not twisting the hair right lol. its a certain technique you use to get them really neat and uniform. you need to twist your strands in the opposite direction that you twist. im not sure if you understand what im saying but maybe you can find someone who does kinky twist or twist to show you the technique lol i made this mistake the first time i twisted too but once i got the technique down i loved how my twist looked

  • I have this same problem! I don't care how small my twists are, they do not look right! My hair is 3C and I think it is just too thin for twists. I always get this spacey look. I hate it! I really want to wear twists but I can't do it with my hair. I can't even wear twist outs. I think my hair just isn't kinky enough. I am going to try to put in some kinky twists with kinky hair weave and see if that looks better because I want to protect my hair this winter.

  • @kxw1466 omg i understand. the back of my hair is kinkier and it works great, but the front is more like a 3c texture and i can forget about it. it waves and the ends are straighter. I can't even go out in public if I twist my hair bc of it. I need a beanie or some sort of head scarf to cover my head when I do twists. It's frustrating!!

  • @mindfulone26 same here. I have completely given up on the twists. I can do a braidout but I just don't think the twists are made for my texture.

  • ok so I decided you and I have the same hair issues LOL..I love my natural curl pattern and everytime I try twists, twist outs, etc..it just doesnt feel right..lol..I'm revisting twist outs for the winter so we'll see how that goes. Good luck with the twists, pls do try them again smaller, you never know you might like it again :D

  • ur hair looks reli nice w/ dem out

  • Taren you're so pretty i love your big hair

  • I think that looks nice on you!

  • Just a suggesstion for curly hair. I wash and go alot, and use to put 2-3 different products in my hair UNTIL I bought a tube of Sebastian #9 Wearable Treatment. Itleft my hair soft andcurly NOT frizzy. Of course for different looks I may try other things since Sebastian #9 can get to be pricey but I can go to sleep wake up and curls still look good. Love LOVE sebastian #9 WEARABLE TREATMENT!!!

  • ooh i like em up in that style. really cute.

  • I love your twists both tied up and hanging down :) Also your'e extremely beautiful

  • U HAIR LOOKS GOOD

  • I actually like this twist updo. It suits you very well :)

  • my hair is horrible with twists. i have like 4a hair but its fine so it looks funny. i think itlooks better with thick hair

  • I was happy to see that you washed it out. I'm a fan of yours, and I just wasn't feeling the twist out on you....Like you've said in the past, every style isn't for everybody.

  • Too cute! You can absolutely wear it down!!

  • Oh and I forgot to say congrats to your friend. I just watched Project Runway (I know I'm late) and she won with Gretchen cool.

  • They look ok down 2 me ?

  • Hi Taren, Totally understand...I love twists too, but not on me either (unless they are tucked away, which is how i only wear my hair). I'm transitioning from permanently pressed hair, so my twists are straight on the ends. Not a good look for me :(

Btw, congrats to your friend Milana :)

  • did u do it on dry hair and was gel the only product u use?

  • congrats to Milana!

  • Congrats that your friend won PR model - Gretchen was not my favorite designer but she had good model selection

  • i think they look good down. :-)

  • you can put rods or rollers on the end. you'll have twist and curl.

  • Taren I really think your twist look nice:-D And it's a great protective style.

  • Hey Taren. I think that u and your hair is so beautiful that it doesn't matter what u do with it - it's all gorgeous. I do like the mini twists on u. But I gotta admit, I like your curls better than your twistout. I would imagine that u're gonna get all kinds of opinions on this vid. That being the case, best thing to do is to do whatever u like most. Do u. Thanx for sharing!

  • I don't like my actual twist but i like my twistouts. so i completely understand were you are coming from.

  • Congrats Milana, I was hoping you won! Nobody rocked the runway like you did. Thanks for sharing your hair results with us, Taren...you're the best!

  • Congrats Milana, I was hoping you won! Nobody rocked the runway like you did. And Taren how did you end up wearing your hair...twist-out or wash-n-go?? Inquiring minds want to know!!! hahaha

  • Congrats Milana! I wasn't that crazy about Gretchen's designs, but I guess it's better than anything I could have pieced together!

  • What's the name of the song/artist that opens your videos? I would love to download it.

  • I think they look good! You could have rod set the ends for even curlier look.

  • ur twists r so cute down!!

  • that hair styyle does look cute....i wanna try it n ow

  • They're not bad. If you separated each twist into 2 or 3 twists and wet it. The ends will curl up after you wet it and they'll hang better.

  • YOU REMIND ME SO MUCH OF GINA FROM MARTIN.. ESPECIALLY WITH THE RED LIP COLOR

  • I love the twists! You should do it more often!

  • Love - Love - Love the Twist Out!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't think they look juvenile at all. And did you ever consider doing a roller set on the twists rather than doing a twist-OUT? I think you're probably used to more volume and curly twists might give you that........

  • Love it!!! But I know what you mean... People can tell me all day my hair looks good, if I don't like it, it won't fly.

  • THEY LOOK GREAT I THINK YOU SHOULD USE THE FLXI RODS TO TOLL THEM AND SEE HOW THEY LOOK BUT OTHER THAN THAT THEY R CUTE

  • I think it would look awesome if they were slightly smaller and if you set the ends like with rollers! That would be gorgeous on you! But they don't look bad at all :)

  • Atleast you tried! They were nice though.

  • It actually looks good to me, maybe try em a teeny bit smaller.. & that updo was CUTE! also im figuring out that finer hair really actually does good with some weight (heavier product) for styles like this. Try a butter or butter based product next time, it will make your twists hang more and look better. Actually, I discovered that Shea Moisture Masque has great hold for twists (sucks as a DT).. try something like that instead of gel!

  • The twists were looking really good on you girl!!

Have fun @ the fashion runway project, we also watch it over here in Holland ;-D I hope your girlfriend wins! ;-)

  • i know u know how u want ur hair, and its okay that u don't like it down, but i actually love it down, as well as up

  • Girl what are you talkin' about!? Ofcourse you can wear your hair down with the twist (!!) They look really look good! Good job on doing your twists for the first time, and they look very nice on you ;-)

  • Hey Taren I like the min twists! Very cayute and I like that you try new styles with your hair that is just how I am too...I haven't done many vids yet but soon...also can't wait to see the bantu knot out results!

  • Your hair looks so cute on you. That is alot of time.

  • You did twists, and I liked them on you. I need to get my twist on. Perhaps I will do so this weekend.

  • hehe i have mini twists in my hair now..i understand where your displeasure is coming from..better luck next time =]

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome! I'm glad you're venturing out and trying new things. Thanks for inspiring me to do the same. Sending positivity your way>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • i think the twist look nice. they probably just needed a little curl on the end.. maybe after u do them u could put flexi rods on the end.. just a suggestions :)

  • I'm glad that even you haven't mastered twists yet. ;~} I feel like a failure due to my lack of twisting skills. LOL The updo is awesome! The twistout is cute, but I love your default curls best. Thanks for sharing it with us!

  • But these are only suggestions if you were trying to get a more coily look with your twists. I think they look super cute as is. My hair type is 3c all over and it has a bad attitude sometimes. lol. I can have springy zig zaggy twist outs that are super defined or kind of wavy ones because my hair tends to straighten out when I'm twisting. Pulling the twist tighter gets rid of the straightness for me. And I absolutely love twirling my ends around my finger. Cute curls and protected ends. :)

  • Also making them tighter makes them less likely to come undone. So as I twist I make it a little snugger. Not from the root but as you twirl each strand of hair pull it a little bit so that it makes the twist stick together more. Then you can try twirling the ends around your finger when you get to the end of the twist. I use moisturizer or conditioner and it both protects your ends and gives you a little corkscrew curl on the bottom. Then when you take the mini twists done they have more spring

  • Hey Taren,

I am a twists and twistout lover but it took me a lot of tries before I got it to look the way I like. I don't think your twists look bad at all. But, when I first started doing twists mine were elongated and it was pretty to wear as twists but when I took it out it barely had any curl or definition/was a little straight. What I've found is that if you make the twists tighter you get a more coil like effect. If that's what you were looking for.

  • they look cute...you can probably try to set them on flexis to make them a little curly or do pin curls..

  • Hey Taren I tried a twist out too and it was not ok on my hair! I didn't like it at all on me. I was trying to mimick others whose turn out so cute. I guess I am just not a twist girl but am more than willing to rock a twist out!!

Anyway your hair is always so beautiful!!! I love it!

  • You may have liked them better if you curled them. But i felt the same way the first time i did mine. keep trying.

  • Hey Taren! All you have to do is put some perm rods or flexi rods to curl it up on the ends so that you can wear them down and have some additional body. Don't get discouraged, great job on the twists =)

  • Yay!!! Milana won!!!! :D Your hair always looks great no matter what :) ...Hope you have a great day!

  • Hey Taren! I think it's great you tried a new style! Even though you didn't like the results good for you for trying to switch it up a little. :) Don't we all do that from time to time? lol Also, I think that's so cool that you got to go to the Project Runway finale. Love that show! And congrats to your friend!!!! I wish her the best! I'd be dyin' if my friend won. lol Actin' a fool and everything! haha

  • yay! milana won! her look always stood out to me, congrats to her =)

  • Nice video.

  • P.s: At least she let's us post comments on her videos some people take your comment through an approval process!! What is that all about?!?!

  • First of all I am so happy that you tried this style. I LOVE them when you had them pinned up. They were cute down but I personally don't like down twists on anybody. It's just my opinion, I twist mine before and put them up asap. But please try them again with different accessories I would love to see that.

  • Good video.. I love DearNaptural85 twist.. she has the best twist..lol

  • Thats so cool that you were there. i think your friend did win congrads to her and she looked beautiful.

  • congrats to your bestie! can you show us pics of your outfit and final hair look for the finale?

  • when did hair get so serious?? any who I think your twist were cute on you (the fullness) I think if you did them a little smaller and then curl the ends it would be nice enough to rock anyway with pride. I can agree with you sometimes some of the protective styles do look kid like (just add some bollies :) ps the end was very chaka chan.

  • don't use jell, on 3b/c hair for twist- braidout it straightend too much and try it doing it on wet hair. i have better results this way

  • I'm sorry Taren, don't take it personal, but sometimes you do annoy me. It's just hair. You need to stop thinking that your hair has to be perfect always. You are such a pretty lady, if your hair doesn't look great for one day, just make a nice style out of it. You are not going to have the perfect curls every day, because that's not what your curls are supposed to be. But I do love you.....don't be mad!

  • @CherryBombFashion I already stopped looking for the perfect curl and I LOVE my firzz and embrace.. I would have kept it in the twist and just wore updos if I didn't have an event to attend like I said in the video.. I wanted my hair out.. Not in twists.. Since they didn't come out the way I wanted them to.. And I have every right not to like the results as well... I would think

  • @taren916 You're right! You have the right not to like the result of the twist out and I apologize if I affended you! I'm happy that you stopped looking for the perfect curl and learned to embrace your frizz.....that's what I ment. I wasn't really talking about that specific video here. I should have directed the comment to an other video...

  • @CherryBombFashion It's cool.. Me chasing the "perfect curl" was soooo last year! Lol.. I think most of us go through a process and chasing the perfect curl is a part of that..It's a faze and eventually we become veterans and get over it.. It's in the eye of the beholder anyway :-)

  • @taren916 I agree with you Taren... its YOUR hair.... and if you didnt like the outcome, then its up 2 YOU. (^__^)

  • Like my mom always said if you don't have anything nice to say don't say nothing at all... @CherryBombFashion

@taren916 keep doing your thing girl, there's always going to be someone who has to put thier one and a half cent in something lol.. Keep the videos coming love your personality and the hair!

  • Congrats to Milana on winning the spread! Yay!

    Your hair looks great, Taren.

  • hey taren... a trick to try is to curl the ends with small perm rods on each twist and sleep over night with a cap on.... it adds cute curls to the bottom of the twists! love the up 'do btw =D

  • i like your big round natural curls better than the twist out!

  • oh yea it does kinda make u look super young. but it looks good when u style it.

question since the gel was water based did it make ur hair puffy ou frzzy?

  • I love how your twists look! I just recently started doing two-strand twists (on my transitioning hair) and I learned that they come out soooo much better on wet hair. By the way..congrats to your girl Milana!!!..I was rooting for her the whole time =)

  • Ok, I am glad you washed it, LOL!!! You are so like me. I always start doing something with my hair and then A.D.D kicks in and I end up left of center of where I began, LOL!!!

  • Girl I'm with you.I cannot wear my twists down either. My twits look great in an updo. Hope you had had fun at the project Runway Finale.I love the show.

  • The twist updo is really fly, I think I'll try this one day next week.

  • They look beautiful to me.

  • you should try wetting them, they may start to lay better and your ends will probably curl a little better

  • @gad4lyfe I agree when I twist my hair and it is wet it lays better with more definition opposed to when it is dry.

  • Nice

  • I love Naptural85's channel and her twist inspired me to do some twist on my hair too!

  • You look gorgeous....love the twists....please share on the makeup (lipcolor).

  • Those twists are gorgeous. They look very nice.

  • Wow, I actually think they look good down? Yes I feel if you perfect them more to your liking and put in flexi rods or somethiing you'd like them more. Defintely doesn't look like a kiddie style on you?

  • i never thought i'd see the day lol

  • Your twists were fine to me but I do agree that if they were smaller they would look better. I have short hair so I do my twists small to make them last longer. If its a style you wanna try again I say go for it becaue my twists look different everytime I do them. Lol!!!

  • I didn't like when u first took them down but the more I watched, the more I was like, hey.... this is CUTE! Maybe you might like it more if you did a flexi rod set w/ them :)

  • How long fo you think the twists would last as a protective style?

  • I like the twist on you it doesn't make you look young at all. I sometimes spray my ends and they curl up more. It works better on the braid out less chance to unravel but keep it up

  • wow! I'm taking down my mini twist right now!

But I love wearing them, but it's a pain in the butt taking them out.

  • i think it looks good. maybe you can spritz some water on theme to bring some waves to the twists and let shrinkage create beauty.

  • Ok Taren, I have to first admit that I love twists on my hair, so I may sound biased here. I happen to think all three looks worked well for you. What I have found out about wearing twists is that you have to experiment with several different looks to find the one that fits (i.e. makes you look your age).If you are really interested in wearing a mature looking twist style give it another go, and be sure to rod the ends to add curls or maybe staw set them for a spiral curl look (my favorite).

  • i liked the twist out b4 you brushed it. anywho, ppl on here saying you cant do hair *cough* ilovemeu21. i actually appreciate that you trial things for us to watch so that we can see how these things work on your hair and choose what technique works for us.

  • I like the twist out results, but I did like the twists up, its cute

  • I thought the twists looked good down as well as the twist out. You didn't need to brush it out IMO. I hope Milana(spell check) wins as well, I have been watching every week and she has been doing her thang...owning that runway! WORK IT GIRL, WORK IT, LOL! I record the show and watch it on Friday so I won't know until tomorrow. Stay beautiful!

  • I think they are really cute and if you rod them they would be really nice

  • Wow Taren. The Haters seem to love stalking you. The more haters you have the better. That just means you're doing something right!!! Anyway....The twist don't look so bad when you have them put up. I think it's cute.

  • YAYAYAYYYY MILLANA!!!!!!!!!! it feels like my friend won lol

  • I think that your twist look good, and you may like it if you curl the ends, with some rollers

  • OMG! I just watched it and Milana won! ahhh!! Congrats to her!!

  • Gretchen just won Project Runway so your friend won as well. That's awesome! I did not like the look Gretchen put her in, but she totally rocked it.

  • You actually look like Milania With your twists out. I thought it looked cute, maybe next time bantu knot the twists that would be cute!

  • Kudos to you for having the patience to twist up all that gorgeous hair! I have maybe 4inches and my arms want to fall off halw way through lol. Brush off the haters you are the ISH! p.s The twists really don't look bad i think you look pretty as always.

  • Kudos to you for having the patience to twist up all that gorgeous hair! I have maybe 4inches and my arms want to fall off halw way through lol. Brush off the haters you are the ISH!

  • I saw the Joie brand in the Westerly supermarket near my job a while back. I started to buy it but I wasn't familiar with the brand...figured I would do some research on it but I totally forgot about it. I may have to check it out now. Thanks for reviewing it! :)

  • They actually look very cute down. Try it.

  • You have a lot of hair...for the first time you have done well girl. I love doing twists now. I like the way you had it styled in the band....good look for you.

  • It doesn't look bad down.

  • They look pretty good. But you should do your hair according to your comfort level. My hair is a lot shorter, so I never twist it and wear it out. It just sticks up. LOL

  • Well no matter what ppl say I think you always look beautiful without looking like you made an effort. Lol jealous much!

  • personally i loved the twists before u took them loose. they really made u look jamacian lol and u could have worn them for a week or even two. was that the only product u put on them was gel?

  • I guess everyone is doing the mini twists for the fall/winter months? :) I just completed a set of my own 2 days ago and I'm enjoying them quite a bit. I'll prob continue to do them until spring since they still allow me to have styling options without having to manipulate my hair much. Yours look very nice!

  • Can't we all just get along...(voiced like Martin!!! LOL)

  • Awe!! I thought your twist were nice. I can understand though. I am fighting myself to keep my twists in. They unravel on the ends and I have to retwist. You went to the hair gathering in AC? I so wanted to go. Maybe I'll see ya next year. By that time I should have my pic or at least one vid LOL.. Peace!!

  • Twists look nice. Don't take em down. Keep it pinned up or roll up the ends. I use KBB hair nectar and KBB cream on the ends. I take them down on the weekend.

  • i think that the twists look cute on u when its down..but i understand what you mean by looking juvenile because i tend to feel the same way

  • show us your outfit for that night

  • stop lying they look great on u

  • Girl, you can still wear your hair down. :) I think your twists look great up or down. Don't be afraid of trying something new.

  • Looks good!!! "Team Taren!" :)

  • T916, Your hair always looks good. It's never just one way. It always looks polished and photo-ready. You make natural hair fun. Thumbs up!

  • Pretty lipstick color, would you mind sharing the name of it? I think if you put some flexirods on your twists before bed, that might help make it look more polished. Still cute though.

  • I thought your hair was very cute. I wonder if you would have sprayed a little water after taking done the twist . I did it once and it really turned out to be cute.

  • my hair look horrible in twists
