  • @your0wner444 it will run pretty good. but don't expect better performance than XP. If you use the netbook for multimedia i recomend XP

  • Washington State Education uses these for Mobile computing in the eastern side of the state

  • Yup, S10 rocks S10e is terrible in res

but im sticking with my asus 1005 hehe

  • @xMandalorex Asus and Lenovo are reliable, what i like about Asus is the build and design almost all their computers.

  • HOW please answer me how can i get Windows 7 on my laptop PLEASE

  • would u say its generally a good laptop cuz i got one for christmas

  • why my s10e look the same but not the same OMG....Hope you know what i mean.

  • this pc is good

  • this laptop Is Terrible, my school has these, they have had nothing but problems, very inconvienent features, dragging is a challenge, unreliable

  • its because they use their own version of windows. i use to work in the computer lab and everytime a new computer came in they had a guy from the district come and install a special version of windows

  • oh ok.

  • Great,

    Nice Review 5 Stars!

  • :O gettin mine free tomorrow from school, 160g harddrive, bluetooth, 2gb ram HAHAHAH!

  • is this the one that nsw students are getting?

  • yerh it is. Im getting mine next year. The one students are getting has 160gb hard drive and 2 gb ram

  • im a student in yr 9 im gettin mine this year

and i heard they have 120GB

  • We're getting the paperwork today saying that if we want one , We give permission to the school to track everything we're doing , Which is sorta stupid in my opinion , And We can't take them overseas

  • I'm getting mine in a couple of weeks , But everything you do and everything you type the government can track , That's sorta stalker-ish though

  • do private schools get the laptops aswell

  • not sure, it's a government initiative, and private schools are literally just businesses. Schools run by CEOs of some kind, so I have no idea. I'd say the Govt won't give laptops to schools they aren't funding anyway though.. Google it.

  • If you use windows you will be able to install anything a regular computer would be able to :) It just doesn't have so good specs.

  • I'm pretty sure he did say I wouldn't be able to install anything (since Lenovo did change some things about this laptop specifically for the schools), but even if it doesn't have msn or anything, I have my own one at home anyway :)

  • Um....well my school is letting us keep the laptops after year 12 (cause they'll be out of warranty by then). As far as I know, you just can't open .exe files (installation files) on them, and all internet usage is run through the DET (even if you are using the home internet).

  • If it uses windows you can open anything a regular computer would be able to open.

  • according to my year adviser, the laptops are designed that you can't install anything. from cds or the internet or anything :(

mine is apparently coming with itunes though ^^

  • That's only if you get one with a custom Operative System :) If you get a notebook with Windows then it's exactly the same pc as you're using now, except it doesn't have as good specs :)

  • yeah im in year 9 too

    thanks kevin rudd

  • my school is getting this too

  • wow this is small but since im in yr 9 i get one =D

  • all yr 9 students in my school are gonna get this laptop inn term 3 and im wondering does it have all the specs to play combat arms.

  • lol your funny, its so fucking shit, it wont even play mass ef fect or the sims 3

  • Because it's for office/surfing, smartie :P

  • i bought a few u can take my advice if u want to i really like the acer aspire, MSI, asus eee and the lenovo

  • I'm from year 9 hopefully recieving one of these within the next couple of months and i've been wondering if this notebook had a disk tray because i couldn't see one?

  • Netbooks do not have optical drives. You will need to invest in an external one or rely on the optical drive of another computer.

You can boot from USB, however, which is how I installed Ubuntu and Windows 7 on my s10e

  • no it doesnt. you don't need an optical drive.

  • Nope. But it does have a USB port.

  • I have a notebook i bougth for 8 years ago. AMD 1400+ cpu with 512 ram. Best choice there (for me, and for them who wanted performance for years), Its still working great, a bit slow and this ATOM cpu is about the only choice I have. If I want a netbook. . .

  • no one should be using a $300 netbook for more than 2 years

  • and why not? The netbook is for internet and surfing mainly.... = requires only cpu and ram power then you can have a good computer for 5 years. no reason to change computer after 2 years, thats a stupid conclusion.

  • Normal people would be willing to buy another netbook after two years but okay, maybe you don't want to. You just agreed that netbooks are for surfing the net period I see no reason why it would go obsolete in 2 years when you're only surfing the net unless you know of a technology that I don't, wireless will remain the same for now.

  • well yeah. I dont see why they make bad netbooks, when they can put a i think 40% better cpu unit in them.... Only because they wanna sell more, or that ppl dont know the different between cpu's and they just go for the cheapest netbook. Its sad.

  • I dont agree all. The technology i may know then that you dont, is HD video quality streaming. In 2 years ppl will put more videos in HD than in other formats on youtube or other sites. Thats a dead for the netbook user, that are using Youtube as you do to. . . Conclusion = This netbook and other netbooks with ATOM 1,6 Ghz. on intel chipsets lack now and lack much in youtube performance in 2 years. But nice looking netbook. I wont buy.

  • That's the thing, these cheap atom computers are not meant to last you 5 years. By the time HD video fully takes over, no one should be using the N270 for HD video playback. You are expecting the performance of running shoes at the price of sandals, get my drift?

  • no no. I want them to cost more. . . Price could be more if performance where more. Lets say im just very dissapointed they dont make the computer i want :) VIA 2 Ghz. Nano cpu on a 12,1 inch screen. :)

  • the government's going to give them to everyone year 9 student in australia

  • .. To everyone in years 9, 10, 11 and 12. Only year 9 students will receive one each, while everyone else has to share 1 between 2.

We get modified versions of them with 2gb of ram.

  • IMO its one of the best looking netbooks out there (not counting the hp mini 1000)

  • I think it's ugly as sin...It's all blocky....Just really bland.

  • I guess you want it shiny and with small thin corners. I like this. Its well made, and high quality.

  • I LOVE my S10e. Have been using it since December. I put Linux on it, though.

  • i have the regular s10

  • do you think they will be useful in school? te programs it comes with is preety awesome but we are going to hve to use them all day... wouldnt the battery run out preety fast? then students get yelled at for not charging their laptop?

  • LOL there the 1s out school is giving evey 1

  • I have the s10e with 1GB RAM and 160GB HDD, bought from ebuyer - very reasonably priced, though sadly they all seem to be out now! It's a very nice laptop, I take it into uni and use it everywhere as it's very portable. Sadly, I can only squeeze about 2 hours battery life out of it, but I'll be getting a new battery from Lenovo soon! It has bluetooth too, so it is great for connecting with mobile phones. Great laptop, I love it!

  • Hey mobilecomputer guy, your s10e has a matte black lid on top. In the models I see the s10e has a glossy dark silver top lid. Is there matte black s10e's availible in the us?

  • in this notebook can put cd's?

  • lol wtf......

  • nope

  • Actually you can get the s10e with a 160gb hd. The real difference is the screen at 1024x576 instead of 1024x600 for the s10. At least here in the US, the s10e is only available for students. You have to call the Lenovo Education and Government order line. You can't just order it, you have to prove your student status.

  • ....and like you said the RAM is 515 and not the 1gb like the s10. Also the RAM is soldered in and supposedly(Lenovo says) that it is only upgradeable to 1.5gb. I think someone on here has shown a 2gb card in the empty slot and all is recognized by the s10e. I ordered mine but have not received it yet. I will find out if 2gb works and report back.

  • all netbook mobos should support up to 2 or 2.5gb

  • The aspire one can only do 1.5Gb also

  • I love how you're always flipping the laptops around and getting a good feel of it. This is by far the best looking netbook out there. Clean lines, no chunky pieces sticking out anywhere and the black finnish is awsome. Shiny metal or shiny black looks just horrible on a computer. If they upgrade the graphics this one soon I'll buy it.

  • Does the 1024x576 make a noticeable difference? Also...does the S10e have the multi-touch capability? Thanks

  • I have an S10(not "e") and it's resolution is 1024x600 and mine isn't glossy which is fine.

Overall i'm happy with mine, but some people complain about the fan spinning up and down.

  • the only difference between the s10 and the s10e are the s10e has an 80gb hdd instead of a 160gb hdd, and 512mb standard instead of 1gb (i say standard because im sure its the same board, so you can add a gig if you want.)

  • do they come in different colors or was i seeing somthing else where

  • pink, black and white

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOPEN.....!

  • nice review

  • 1024x576 is true 16:9 widescreen resolution.

  • "dated" is a perfect word for those keys

  • Netbook, I'm sorry, not sure why I said laptop there.

  • I would say MSI Wind or Acer aspire 1... Had both and they are great!

  • well I actually was considering an aspire. I had heard though to get the 6 cell battery?

  • I don't know about the 6 cell battery, but i had to give the MSI back and my netbook is now the aspire, great computer, good keyboard, glossy screen (witch i like) and the atom processor works surprisingly well! And by the way the resolution of nearby all netbooks is 1024*768 so don't think about that... And by the way, you need to know that the Aspire has one inch less than the MSI, but that didn't bother me. Anyways, go out in the stores and try both, if you can and see with one you like most

  • yea I'll try them out for sure just to see what I like about the both of them

  • what is a good laptop with a nice sized keyboard and a decent screen size and resolution?

  • good review.. but some of your concerns aren't any sort of problem for me. S10e is a great little machine just like all the other netbooks. cost me £270 with the 160gb harddrive then 2gb ram upgrade £15 plus a spare 6-cell £50 and a tv expresscard £40.. all im waiting for now is a good but not too expensive 2.5" SSD :)

  • First post ftw. nice review.
