  • honistly i gota say not bad not bad at all

the original joker would be proud

  • I think your take on the Joker works well. You just need to look older. It's hard to belive someone in their 20's could be a master criminal.

  • What's good with the Joker is that you can see him through many different perspectives. The problem is not to be too off-point.

From that point of view, you're actually very good.

  • @FandeJay thank you! Yes, there are so many different ways to approach him. the joker in the comics was the Joker I had researched. When I originally thought of doing this, that was my inspiration. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • your a faggot dude, you would have ruined the Dark Knight

  • This is good and all, but not joker good. You're playing it off more like Jack Nicholson, a trouble maker who is more about getting the press than making a point.

  • oops I meant Jim Carrey XD

  • looks Just like Jum Carrey XD

    HE HAS A TWIN!!!!!!!

  • WOW!! Wonderful!

if nolan wa to make a joker a little different from the heath version, i think you would be perfect!

I'd like to see more of your joker performances!!

  • That was actually very good

  • well, i think you're fantastic, just not right for a nolan film.... however, i think that if another joker is to come around in a few years, with another director, you'd be perfect for it. this is most likely the next approach to the character, anyhow.

  • that joker look so gay

  • That was pretty entertaining. The fact that the joker is trying to give a kid the death sentence for stealing gum is just hilarious.

  • i thought he said GUN. not gum.

  • epic fail

  • Here's an idea...

The Riddler is rumored to be in the next bat-flick, right? What if the Joker was simply some guy that Edward Nigma abducted, and he completely broke his brain to turn him into the Joker that we all know and love/hate today? Then the third movie comes along, and it's revealed that he's planning to Jokerify all of Gotham! Not only does Batman have the Riddler to defeat, but an army of Jokery psychos as well! >:D

  • this is the joker i remember from the comics the joker should be much darker but yeah i still respect and admire heaths it was damn good but hey the never killed joker off in TDK so this may be the new joker in this vid

  • Maybe you guys are WAY TOO TAKEN with Heath Ledger and I have to ask have ANY of you EVER read any of the comics? This is a far more accurate representation of the joker. Even though Ledgers Joker is groundbreaking this is definitley more accurate. Some of you guys need to seriously take your heads out of your asses and pay attention.

He's not trying to be Heath Ledger he is trying to present us with THE FUCKING JOKER

Much love and peace to you all

    Raveneyes

  • what a douche, ledger shat all over this 'joker' if you even wanna call this a joker

  • Looks/acts like Topher Grace

  • Well performed, well directed, good job.

  • The slightest bit of research would have let you know that Joker's face is supposed to be WHITE.

  • Dear Bruce Campbell, stop acting like The Joker.

  • Okay ya, you look just like Jim Carrey... =/

  • Are you Jim Carrey? I swear, if Jim Carrey would ever play the Joker, this is exactly what would happen. Good job! You did pretty good.

  • LOVE IT!

  • Haha. I enjoyed the Jim Carrey-ish act. :)^_^

  • This clearly should have been named "Acting like Jim Carrey's Riddler but wearing make up instead in Jury Duty"...CLEARLY.

    -_-

  • It wasn't so bad, though it did feel kinda Jim Carrey-ish.

  • I agree w/ MasterToku's comment on control, but i still liked it. I saw a lot of Killing Joke it it.

  • The Joker's intelligence is his most formidable attribute.

  • i didnt like the shotgun in the shoe, but it was very joker style. i also like the posh accent, and the madness in the eyes. its as if the characters taking this seriously. when he questions why no-one is answering, it was like something straight out of the comics. good stuff man.

  • I haven't watched this in a while because of all the dark knight hype, but I still like this. Heath Ledger did do a phenomenal job, god rest his soul, but you did a great job yourself. I have a feeling that the Joker will be back in Batman 3 so maybe Chris Nolan will consider you again.

  • timothy stole the gum

  • I know this sounds a bit strange, but I saw a bit too much control in the rendition. The curiousness of the Joker's character is that while he clearly does have command of some of his brain's higher thought processes, he seems to sacrifice his grip on some other parts of his mind. So the chief thing I'd like to comment on, having watched this twice, is that you should try to bring more spontanaeity to the character.

0:58 to 1:02 was definitely one of your best moments.

    I'd like to see more!

  • There's no mind to The Joker. He's a nutso who likes to laugh. Keep it simple.

  • Bullshit. There is that constant question which pervades all of the Joker's actions. Is there an overall plan to this, or does he make it up as he goes along? For fucks sake, listen to the dog chasing cars monologue.

  • Nothing needs to be so complicated, for fuck's sake -- you need to listen to that monologue again! Along with Alfred's story about the bandit. Some people just like starting and causing a ruckus.

  • dude. the joker should be laughing like a maniac while beating someone to death. he loves it. to him its hillarious. you looked to serious and angry, when you should have had a big grin.

  • I know the Make-Up is not what made the act... cuz you did good. The make-up does sell and get attention... so maybe if you had more make up you probably would have made a better first impression. On the acting side... you need to examine the character a little more... lunatics do not show their insanity all the time... they seem pretty normal... until they're ticked off. When you were supposed to take advantage of the character, you didn't go full head-on when you killed the dude. Good job tho.

  • I sincerely appreciate your critic. I agree. I needed more work on his backstory. The actual make up was done this way because it was a mock screen test for Christopher Nolan and it was decided (since we didn't have a full make-up crew) to go less on the makeup not knowing what he wanted, and more on the character. Thanks again for your very perceptive critic.

  • wanna know how to act like the joker? its not green hair that makes you the joker, go to hell in your mind, do heroin and other drugs for a long time, if u live through it...u would act better, take a lesson from heath

  • you're a douche. heath died from prescription overdose. he was sleep deprived. stfu asshole!

  • and you know because you were hanging out with him or stalking him via internet?

  • oooooh, so you were hanging out with him, thats how u know he was a drug addict, of course, wow, you proved me wrong!

  • dude u suck ass!! not just from an audience's point of view but also from an actors point of view aswell

  • you look more like Jim Carrey than the Joker...

  • I have to say, suprisingly (and contradicting some of the more critical posts here...) good. You hit every good villain point I could find, you touched on the silent viciousness of your character while being this almost charismatic figure. And then you performed the obvious viciousness which was impeccable. Perhaps you could have done without the slap, but that's it. I have to say if Nolan was going for an animated series joker... you might have been a good choice.

    Excellent work.

  • did u end up gettin in as one of jokers henchmen?

  • Great Video. I am looking to get into films too. I am having no luck finding a way to get into a film. But I will never give up. I am moving to New York City for college in 2010.

  • Wow! Best of luck to you! Don't ever give up if it is what you truly desire.

  • first off, you need to work on your voice...you probably need to develop.. preferably a deep voice. If you want to do anything in the acting career. No offense, but your acting and tone of your voice are only suitable for one of those teen tv shows.

  • Interesting.

  • i like the "weeee" as you were bashing that guys head in with the tire iron.

  • It was disturbing to film. Thanks!

  • well they always say the shoe is on the other foot hahahahahahahahaha

  • Very good. and I guess the shoe rifle is on the other?

  • sweet

  • Thank you.

  • this is JOKER STYLE! It has everything to do! With! ATTITUDE! Nothing else! You don't need to have a pale skin! yes it is more theatrical! but this! THIS IS THE ATTITUDE! Joker Attitude! Sir! you make me smile! good Job SIR May the Floss be with You! :D

  • Thank you. I saw a pre pre screening of the Dark Knight with Heath Ledger. You're right when you say it's all about attitude. He made some really amazing choices. I'm glad you enjoyed watching.

  • i like this joker. awesome, i've always wanted to play the joker!!! i think that the jokers face needs to be kinda ugly and more pale, my opinion, its your movie, still, very awesome

  • You're right about the more pale. this was a mock screen test so we went subtle not knowing what the director wanted. Thank you for watching.

  • Finally found this! I saw it on Google video but couldn't find it on here! Thank, it's awesome! The script is just genius!

  • Please make more videos of this!

  • I like the potrayal of the Joker, but I wish his face was a little more pale.

  • is ok, im not gonna be hateful because you are an ok actor but i just think your potrayal brings nothing new to the character. see what they did with the new joker? totally opposite almost like Brandon Lee's Crow. but great vid and thanks for posting wish you luck

  • Thanks for your honesty! I appreciate it.

  • I accidently removed your last comment. sorry. What do you mean "inside scoop"? The problem for me was that when we came to filming it, I guess I needed another week. I produced this and it took a lot of effort and time in producing it. I hadn't completed the character in my mind fully. I wished I'd had an extra week to work him through... Was that what you were asking?

  • no i think your presentation was great. What I mean By "inside scoop" is this scene depicted it is uncannily like the New Movie where Joker Is Making his case to The Mob Leaders and then gets there endorsement.

  • yeah, I saw that too. When I created this they hadn't come up with a script yet. I made this 3 months after Batman Begins hit the theaters. So, I don't know what their ideas were for the next movie at that point. Good eye! I wonder about that.

  • I like this, hes not got the perfect face for the joker (more make up might have fixed that, not that i didnt like the subtle make up) but he is a good actor, good voice, funny especially the gun lol! thats classic. Good writing, overall i really really enjoyed this, thanks for sharing!

  • I wonder what Jim Carrey would've said. I didn't think about him while I was performing, but now that I watch and see the comments I can understand how people would've thought that.

  • yep it was very Jim Carrey (hey that rhymes!) especially the gun leg part

  • wow, your great!

  • Thank you

  • really good!!

  • Thank you.

  • Hey Chadd, I was wondering, could you make another video. Showing how much you have learned since you posted this vid.

What would you do differently this time around? How would you make the performance yours and no one elses?

  • Tophat! I can't respond to your message! Basically I would've developed the characters backstory and developed the root of what he believed to be true. I hadn't flushed that out.

  • I will do it Tophat. I will put together another video. Thanks

  • No thank you! Also, thanks for responding to my message earlier.

  • This was really good. that gun part actually made me jump

  • Wacfilms, that's great! I haven't received that comment yet! How funny!

  • This should actually be included on the DVD. That'd be great.

  • Wow - what a dream come true that would be. Thanks for the compliment andfor watching louthegiantcookie.

  • good audition i think you did well theres no reason you shoudnt get a role in another movie, i know u put your heart in this but this is not a real audition i know this cause ledger was intended for the role not because of an audition but after he met with nolan in a diner and discussed his vision of the joker nolan knew he was right for the part. ive been following the movie since the begining and know everything about it.

  • Thanks for watching! I appreciate your thoughts. I actually put this together as a "mock screen test". I created this before Chris Nolan and the group had a script put together. The trouble came when I gave my "wouldbe audition" to a man who claimed to have contact with Chris Nolan and his wife Ema Thomas, and for months he lied about them watching it and waiting for the script. I eventually got it in their hands (personally) but only just after they had chosen Heath for the role.

  • Really good

  • Thanks for watching. Thank you.

  • Great job...but Heath does a hell of a better job. Mostly because his is an original creation. Your joker was just a sort of play off, off of other joker types. Not very original...but well acted.

  • You're right. Good observation. I did create this joker off of the joker I read in the comics. Not so much the jokers I watched, but more the joker I thought I saw in the comics. I think Heath Ledgers original creation will be an amazing thing to watch. Thanks for watching.

  • For some reason you reminded me of Jim Carry when you lifted your leg/gun up and was like, "Oh! You blinked!... yes you did. *bang*"

    xDD Made me laugh.

  • That was originally not going to be put in the film. The writer and director didn't believe it would work. I'm glad you liked it!

  • Good job you did here. Too camp though.

But I find it funny how even though Heath Ledger is dead you prats can't find it in yourself to be civil to him. What the hell is wrong with some of you?

Take away the makeup from Heath Ledger and the villan (from what little we see in the comerical) could be any other movie bad guy who "Just wants to watch the world burn."

That comment in particular got to me. Show him some respect or kindly go fuck your Mum.

  • me agrees!

  • It was very camp. I meant it to be like the comics.

  • Interesting monolouge there.

  • Thanks you.

  • that was really really good, i'm impressed

  • I appreciate your comment. Thanks

  • I forgot to add-my favorite part is at :57 where you say "Is it...A okay...in our book?" Your facial expression is great, it makes you look out of your mind. Then when you are kind of like "mmm, what?" at the lady quivering that was funny.

This isn't the type of Joker that Nolan was looking for, but I liked it for what it was.

  • I really wish I'd known what kind of joker he was looking for. I really liked that scene you mentioned. So, glad you made point to talk about it.

  • Wow, very nice. That reminded me of the Joker from the Animated Series, I really enjoyed it.

  • cool!

  • nice that you were considered for the role. You seem to have a pretty good idea of the joker... I think.

It's a real shame though that Heath Ledger died of an overdose.

if anything, (not being mean) I'm glad it happened after the movie was completed, rather than before. I'm sure having to recast and redo the scenes over must cost a heck of a lot of money!

  • Agreed.

  • Thanks

  • Against Heath Ledger, it's obvious, well.. you know how good Heath was.

But dude, you did a really good job here. You got the joker pretty good, man. =]

  • sad that Heath Ledger died today...

  • You remind me more of a dark Riddler. You don't have the look or smile of the Joker, which are both VERY important aspects to playing him.

Heath doesn't have the look really, but judging by the shots of his laughing, he's got the smile.

That being said, great performance. Much better than impersonating the Joker of Nicholson (a bad thing to impersonate) or the Joker of the series. It was your own take, I appreciated that.

  • wow your good, i can only do the Joker from the Animated Series, but right now im perfecting my Clouseau. I am planning on becoming an actor, perhaps we will meet one day, and work side by side. You are a good actor. =P Greg

  • I thought you were pretty good. However, after seeing what Ledger did with the role, you didn't stand a chance.

  • How do you know what Ledger did with the roll? You saw him for about forty seconds in the trailer? Personally, I'm very sceptical about the Dark Knight's take on the Joker.

  • I can't wait to see this movie!! I think having a darker Joker is a great idea. Nicholson nailed the goofy, flamboyant joker and now it looks as if Ledger nailed the darker Joker.

  • I want a Harely.

  • That was pretty good, you kinda remind me of the animated joker.

  • Interesting. If it's real, I really enjoyed the dialouge. Seems like the Joker to me.

  • saddsack...exactly.

  • err...isn't the joker suppose to represent anarchy? y is he bolstering the law?

  • nice attempt but in my opinion you didnt really grasp the joker. You pulled off insane but just not joker insane. Nice attempt and I hope you make it.

  • you did a good job, but im sorry to say that HEATH LEDGER TOTALLY PWNED YOU check out the trailer it kicks ass!!!!!!

  • I liked your performance. You nailed certain aspects of the character. The Joker is probably one of the hardest roles to pull off.

If I were to offer any advice, I'd suggest to show the character as a little less enraged and little more insane. He needs to be more chaotic.

  • gayest joker ever.... boy band joker...

  • sorry you didn't like it. What could I have done to improve upon my performance?

  • ~maybe not to have done this performance at all?

  • You Dont Act Crazy.

Still Very Good, Better than the most of the guys in youtube.

  • I don't think it's your performance as much as it is your voice. Overall, I'd say you did a pretty good job. I especially like the way you beat the guy to death. You need a big name actor when casting for this kind of movie. No offense, that's just Hollywood for you. It's all about the money.

  • wow...good jom mr.stoops...i was one of your students when you were subing at my school...but yea i hope you make it big...good luck!

  • Thanks for watching! It was great teaching at your school, and I'm glad you liked it.

  • this guy is a great joker

  • You know. I think you would make a GREAT Riddler. Not sure why, I just got that feeling. Not the giggling freak Riddler like Jim Carey. You could play a great Riddler, like he was portrayed in Batman:TAS, the OCD, insane, often-suave genius type.

  • I would really like to play him if they have an audition for that role!

  • I thought you did a really good job man. I too am a studying actor and I am totally obsessed with the character of The Joker. I hope things turn out well for you man. Keep up the good work, and oh break a leg.....some one else's not your own of coarse hahahehehehehehehe.

  • Well, the situation was I thought a little weird. I remember on the animated movie how the joker tened to go to places that looked befitting to his personality like an abandoned toy factory. It was just dark and had a semi gothic feel in there. Also, I don't exactly know the intentions of whether you were going to include humor or sadistic dark humor. I couldn't really see any direct line. the laugh could have been better, even scarier if you wanted. .

  • I appreciate your thoughts in regards to the laughing.I didn't want my laugh to take away from the performance. The Jury members was a solution to having four minutes of just me talking with a limited amount of acting from the people around. This was a mock screen test for the role of the joker, so it's focus was to show the range I could play as the character. The hope was for Chris Nolan to watch it and get an actual audition for him.

  • I liked the performance and I dont think the acting is the issue. I think it may have been your interpretation of the character that let you down in the auditioning process, and of course the fact that you are not a "name" put you at a disadvantage. The duality was there ie the brutality and the humour of the character but I think both were too extreme.

  • I hear you. And I appreciate your thoughts on this. I went the route I did, partly based off of the comics I read, but also not knowing where Chris Nolan wanted to go with it at the time. The character is very fasinating and I really enjoy hearing how other people interpret the joker. It helps me to broaden as an actor. So, thank you and if you have any more specific critique for me feel free to write.

  • Did Nolan ever made a comment on this great video ?

It really reminds me of the Joker from the cartoon and the comics, well done

  • Thank you. He didn't, but I hope, when I meet him again, that I can ask him. I know his wife put it in her purse and said they were going to watch. I was happy with that - but it's tough when you don't get any response.

  • I think you should do another one!

  • lol i agree with the other guy best part was

    "you blinked"

    "mphno!"

    "yes ya did"

    *bang*

  • It's funny, but more psychotic. Enjoyed the take, though.

    "You blinked."

    "MNROO!"

    "Yesyadid." BLAM!

    Made me smile.

  • I'm so glad you smiled at some of it. It was great fun to make. I wished we had more time . . . Thanks for your comment

  • Although Batman was not in it and it was very short, I like how you made the joker a mockery of Batman's extreme justice. That is how the joker should be interpreted, a mockery of Batman.

    Batman is Grim/Joker is happy

    Batman is order/Joker is chaos

    Batman is good/Joker is evil

Batman harms evil using terror/Joker murders innocents in a happy image.

  • You really broke it down! I appreciate your depth. I also appreciate that you went into such detail to explain why you appreciated what I did -for that I repect you.

  • Great charisma and character, but needs a more dark and twisted feel to it (great example would be Paul Molnar in "Patient J"). Also a more pale white face with more eye-liner would be nice for appearence. Awesome performance nontheless, just a few things to take into consideration next time. Looking forward to more Joker videos from you.

  • Thanks for commenting. Yeah I was trying to get (in such a short space) the feel the comics had where you were laughing, but felt sick to your stomach for laughing at what he did - kind of thing. I will definitly add more psycho next time. As far as the make-up goes we(crew and director and I) decided to fair on the safe side of less make-up. I was giving this to Chris Nolan and so I didn't know what he wanted just yet, but you're right as well there.

  • This video FAILS!!!!...and it's all because of the man that plays the Joker. His performance was an extreme disappointment. He seem to make the Joker out to be a quite effeminate and maybe gay.

  • WOW! Interesting point of view. Thanks for your comment. I am sorry you're so disappointed. I created the joker based off of what I saw in the comic books.

  • he wanted an actual opinion, not dumb sayings like "this was gay" or "What a load of crap" Be honest but not so harsh. Professional like, is what I mean.

  • (continued) ...I guess Id just say take a little bit from him, and some classic Jack Nickelson; and you'll be terrific.

  • I was more of just adding a negative comment to balance the comments out :) ; but I guess a little too much Jim Carrey, and not enough psycho clown. The balance between Evil, Comedy, and psycho in the character is a difficult thing to mimic, but watching the video, I was thinking of the guy who tried to play Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumberer instead of the Joker. You're not THAT bad, but nix the Jim Carryisms. Mark Hammel did an amazing Joker in the first 2 seasons of the cartoon (1990-1991).

  • you are by far the shittiest actor ever, Im surprised you posted this video because its rediculously embarrasing. Do casting directors a favor, as well as the world by choosing a new career

  • Thanks for the comment

  • yep. Most comments were pros, so you gotta have some cons

  • Boneless, Help me out man! if you could give me some critique on why you believe I'm the worst actor ever, and maybe what I could do to improve. Thanks

  • Wow, man...this was bloody fantastic. I've been a Batman fan since I was a kid, and I'm sooo impatient when it comes to the release date of "The Dark Knight." I've read some of the other comments, as well as your responses, and with all of that in tact, I've got to say, you did REALLY well.

I hope that Heath brings this sort of persona to the new Joker--without remorse and sadistic, but also dropping a few jokes here and there.

Cheers, and all the best with your career!

    - Najeed

  • Najeed, I know you what you mean. I'm really interested in seeing this Dark Knight movie myself. I really respect what your thoughts on this (being a Batman fan). I was fortunate to actually meet Christopher Nolan and his wife Ema Thomas. It was great to give them the film. Thank you again for your views and thoughts. I need that feed back. Your comments help me see how you personally see the joker.

  • Despite of missing make-up, you pulled The Joker off pretty well. However, you seemed more like The Riddler. Other than that, nice job.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm thinking of commenting with a video blog on the making of this film to answer some great comments like this one. Thanks again for watching

  • You've got it man!

  • You make an incredible Joker: sinister, violent, the text is simply awesome...that's the Joker I've been waiting for.

  • WoW! Thank you! That's what I was going for! I'm glad some of that came across. I appreciate your observation. It's definitely a challenging character, but so fun to play!

  • Also give me your honest opinion. What did you think of Nicholson's joker? do u think Heath's will be better than his?

  • pretty good

  • Thanks! You must be a Batman fan.

  • Darn right i am. Joker is my fav batman villian. you played his character really well. too bad they got heath as the joker. also good luck on trying to become one of joker's lackeys in the movie.

  • when you said this was a test screen audition is this a scene being used in the actual movie the dark knight?
