  • @31overview Roflmfao - I like this thing, but I also like your statement. Thumbs up from moi xD

  • 14 dislike are justin bieber fan

  • Critical thinking should be introduced to the school system more so than mere memorization. I appreciate this video, which can be used for both children and adults. It'd be cool if you did a video on the Socratic Method.

  • @Bremerxxxx You mean a whole generation of people questioning the status quo? Hmmmm I don't think big brother would like that.

  • think u thinking thinker

  • I know many MANY adults that need this.

  • sweet, vashti bunyan

  • You can get this with spirituality. if critical thinking takes away our freedom to change opinion that'll be a sad day... Okay, this is merely a blend of stoic, socratic, christian and platonic thinking, Yes, it shouldn;t dictate every part of our lives or else we will become overrational people...too much intellect causes depression and self-absorbed behavior too.It should help us past ethnocentric and sociocentric ties and grow up, but it shouldn't dictate to us everything.

  • What if it was to destrou bonds with people and keep us from forgiving people?

  • @MalaresianLuciferia But surely the opposite is true. If 2 people enter in to a debate with opposing view points but both with a willingness to apply empathic critical thinking then it is likely, through the course of the debate, that at least 1 party will be convinced by some of the others arguments. Thus building bonds. Reasoning is the act by which we gain a clearer understanding of reality, therefore the more people that apply reason the more those peoples understandings converge.

  • @MalaresianLuciferia I don't understand your point to be honest

  • Let me ask a question. Sometimes I really wonder, can critical thinking actually be taught? Its almost like asking can you teach ANYONE to be a leader? Some of us are simply not born to lead and I don't think you can teach that. Just curious about your thoughts about that!

  • @BlacksAreBeautiful Critical thinking is not exclusive to any one group of people. There is no reason that any person of almost any age shouldn't be able to follow these rules. It's not 'in ones blood', as you suggest may be a possibility, whether or not they are capable of asking the question 'why is there war?', for example. In addition, i'd think people aren't born EITHER capable OR incapable of a given skill, just that different people are better at different things.

  • @thabood Thanks, I sent that comment in haste as it turns out because I actually answered my only question after watching a few more vids..Thanks for the reply though.

  • it's sick that people are coming on here starting shit about politics. They're stupid..many conservatives go to these classes.....obviously they doi not watch Glenn Beck or feel good shows that spew out racist, ethnocentic and sociocentric delusions for the irrational dumb fucks.

  • @thabood Critical thinking exists in everybody,. one man developed thev science of critical thinking.

  • What's wrong with Fran's face??

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer

Here's a better question, why are you concerned with Fran's face instead of learning how to think critically and fair-mindedly?

  • @MartialArtsMaster

"why are you concerned with Fran's face"

Because how can you get a message across when your shoddy artwork diverts attention from it?

"learning how to think critically and fair-mindedly?"

The best way of doing that is not to go to church, but of course a lot of parents will get pissed when their children are told that ;)

  • 1:38 sigh ;))

  • As soon as children start to think for themselves because they discover their likes and dislikes and because they hear opposing opinions on the same thing it's not long after they learn tact and diplomacy because adults don't like being told they are wrong by children. This is why children often give the impression of being naive when they aren't.

  • Teaching children to think? But they must have something to think about in the first place.

  • @lemsip Not teaching them TO think, teaching them HOW to think and examine things in the world.

  • So here I am told how to think.

  • Fairmindd Fran should have also added that critical thinking is about coming up with more questions not answers.

  • I'm all for critical thinking, but this video sucks. If this is the best the Foundation for Critical Thinking can come up with, we're screwed.

  • More socialism crap! Real Americans only think in one way, our way!!

  • @fred5399 You scare me. Go to criticalthinkingdotorg

It's not socialist just as much as it isn't conservative...we're taught not to think that way. Most americans are immigrants as it is...

These are superficial coping mechanisms for the ignorant.

  • @fred5399

Your comment doesn't seem logical. How did you arrive at that conclusion? Could you be a little more clear? I didn't hear any mention of political opinions in this particular clip.

  • @fred5399 No only FOX speaks the real truth.

  • i cant stop thinking AHHHHHHH :(

  • I love School, and Canada :)

  • lol, i must be a selfish sam then.

  • This is a lesson not likely to be taught to home schooled children.

  • Comment removed

  • @svanhoosen

Oh? That will be news to my homeschooled freethinker.

  • @leavesof3 Relax amigo. I said this message would be "unlikely" to be taught in a home-school environment, but not "impossible." Though there are some decent home school scenarios, many, many of them are merely parents attempting to utterly control every piece of info that their children learn, in order to more fully indoctrinate them in religious nonsense.

  • fantastic

  • Critical advice!

  • really good!!! i'm amazed that we're supposed to love "democracy", yet old role models fail to make it clear that democracy is the responsibility for the people to think for themselves... if they want others to think for them; they beg for dictatorship

  • @clarkcolt45 the problem is, people don't think for themselves in a democracy. They just conform to the majority opinion.

  • Oh dear!

I think I'm going to form an inappropriate crush on my teacher.

    I love you, Fran ;-)

Seriously, there couldn't be a better tool for world peace.

  • We *need* to teach critical thinking in primary school. Great great greaaaaaaaaat idea!

  • The preaching style, static graphics, repetive backgrounds, monotonous music and hard to relate arguments are sure to scare away all audience under 30 :D and many above.

Good idea though. You should remake this and use some of the thinking on the way. You should test it on some random kids too.

  • @Martiaali

Now, what did Fran just say about - practice -?

  • @babaluboo123

i'm sorry what? I'm just trying to help. I know kids because I've had to take care of many. What did Fran say about practise? I know what she said cause I have the patience (I'm thirty years old) but most kids wouldn't be too interested and would be already watching something more interesting at that point.

  • @Martiaali I know you are...but did you expect perfection on her first attempt?

    She said: Keep practicing.

Do you think she will also not learn from her efforts.

Think about how critical you were...and how you offered precious little in the way of constructive help. Actually, the only credit you gave her, was for the idea...but not for any of the effort.

Odd for someone who says they were trying to help.

  • metacognition.

  • Hmmm - the kid would need a large amount of critical thinking skills to work out how beneficial these skills would be!

  • wtf?

  • This is great advice for children of these times.

  • @inufreaksyahoocom

    and adults of these times.

  • Complex and deep ideas that were well explained. Thanks for posting this series.
