The other new evidence that was concealed from the defence at the trial, was that the now very rich Shopkeeper happily living as a millionaire in Australia at the expense of American taxpayers, had seen a photograph of Megrahi in a newspaper report of the bombing days before he picked Megrahi out in a line up. He should'nt even have been allowed to be a witness under the law. No jury would have found Megrahi guilty then or now but he did'nt get a jury he got a politically motivated stitch up.
The man who bought the clothes and the suitcase also bought an umbrella because it was raining. Megrahi's lawyers finally checked back on weather records in Malta during that period. It did not rain in Malta on the day the shopkeeper settled on. It did not rain on a single day Megrahi was present in Malta so it is not possible that he was the man who bought the clothes and the umbrella on a rainy day. That and other evidence was going to the appeal court and Megrahi would have been cleared.

I always wonder about how these people identify criminals. I work in a pub - if a police officer came in and asked me who had bought a particular drink on a particular day I would have no idea, no matter how many times they asked. And then if I gave a rough description, that would narrow it down to about 10,000 in the local area. So these political paragons of truth and justice only had one way out and they made it happen. That was why Megrahi was released on "compassionate grounds" but made to sign his right to clear his name away as a condition. All that Whitehouse indignancy and and anger was pure show. Washington was desperate to avoid that appeal and with good reason. They would have had to admit they were wrong to bomb Libya in retaliation. Wrong to force compensation and guilt admission under threat and yet more.

The travesty of Scottish justice and the failure to pursue the real culprits is bad enough but the despicable collusion Between London and Washington to get Megrahi out of jail without ever having his appeal heard caps it all. Blair knew damn well Megrahi was going to be cleared and so did Washington so the dirty deal was done with the Scottish Parliament to make sure that appeal never happened and they did'nt have a political disaster on their hands. They knew Megrahi would live to appeal. So?

The other new evidence that was concealed from the defence at the trial, was that the now very rich Shopkeeper happily living as a millionaire in Australia at the expense of American taxpayers, had seen a photograph of Megrahi in a newspaper report of the bombing days before he picked Megrahi out in a line up. He should'nt even have been allowed to be a witness under the law. No jury would have found Megrahi guilty then or now but he did'nt get a jury he got a politically motivated stitch up.

The man who bought the clothes and the suitcase also bought an umbrella because it was raining. Megrahi's lawyers finally checked back on weather records in Malta during that period. It did not rain in Malta on the day the shopkeeper settled on. It did not rain on a single day Megrahi was present in Malta so it is not possible that he was the man who bought the clothes and the umbrella on a rainy day. That and other evidence was going to the appeal court and Megrahi would have been cleared.

I always wonder about how these people identify criminals. I work in a pub - if a police officer came in and asked me who had bought a particular drink on a particular day I would have no idea, no matter how many times they asked. And then if I gave a rough description, that would narrow it down to about 10,000 in the local area. I'm not saying he wasn't responsible, I just have total confidence in the idea that the police like making someone responsible when pressure is put on them.

The only substantial difference in the case against them was that Megrahi was Identified by a maltese shopkeeper as "resembling" the man who bought clothes and a suitcase central to the bomb. He was inconsistent by week s on the day occurred but a millions reward payout from the CIA resolved his confusion.There was no link to the other accused and the clothes so his case was dropped. @troi41 I strongly doubt that BP had anything to do with the release of Ali Megrahi. Ultimately, it was a decision made by the devolved Scottish government, and not the UK government. I have strong concern over the guilt of Megrahi - he was convicted on very shaky testimonial from a dodgy shop owner, Tony Gauci, and the tiny fragment of circuit board miraculously found in the wreckage could have been planted. The suggestion that one man could have been responsible for this outrage is silly.

I have lost an immediate family member to a plane crash 1.5 years after Lockerbie. To return this man to his family, after he consciously and deliberately stole loved ones from hundreds of families FOREVER is unconscionable and a cheeky dismissal of the 20 years of agony inflicted upon them.
