  • HERBIE ON THE ROAD!

  • I got my bus going that fast once- took a very looooong time!

  • This is absolutely true. I've had mine tested, and it reads about 5 mph fast at highway speeds. This day I was easing up to between 83 and 85 from time to time, which would put me in the mid-upper 70s. Most of the time I cruise on the highway between 65 and 70, (true speed, not speedometer reading). ;)

  • It's funny how VW speedometers work. They tend to be optimistic. My 72 bus is about 10-13mph over speed and my 72 beetle is 5-8mph over. So when I my bug says I am going 63 I am actually going 55. Still it is nice to see that they can keep up with the freeway traffic.

  • aww I wanna go 80 in my 1600

  • It's the original tranny in the car. I've been told by a couple of VW guys that the 1973+ transmissions had longer 4th gears like the freeway fliers. Don't know if it's true. I have a soft spot for '66 models. A '66 was my first car 25 years ago. Wish I still had it.

  • Stock tranny or a freeway flyer?

I was surprised how well my 66 with a 1200cc does 60, but it will never do 80.
