Whilst my initial comment was flippant the context and content is heartfelt how can someone who plays no meaningful part in a society claim to have any right to try and influence the lives of those that do!?
I pay taxes my wife does I happen to work in the care system my wife works in manufacturing both reasonably good jobs contributing to both my local and wider community and am active in several voluntary groups for a variety of differing activities.
cool im the same i work and pay taxes so they whom govern can lie steal and cheat us the people!its time for change we give them the authority to govern!by going in to the eu the government has committed treason since the heath government that nearly 40 years of treason upon the the people by giving a foreign power the right to govern!
"Well doen you for owning a business wtf has that to do with my comment!? "
You stated in your comment that the right to protest should only apply to those people that actually take part in the society that they want to protest about .. ie pay taxes .. get a job etc!!
Most of those people that you see .. exercising their right to protest are employed in a professional manner .. doctors, nurses, solicitors etc ..
So when you say 'most' does that mean you actually asked everyone of them what they did and got evidence to prove it from them!?
Otherwise your just making a sweeping statement with no evidence to support it!
I have absolutely no problem with people protesting as long as its done in a proper manner and doesnt interfere with others trying to go about their daily lives.
they dont have a right to disrupt law abiding citizens going about their daily lives because they are unhappy with elected officials, what they should do is either vote for those they want in power or take an active part in politics where I have no doubt they would quickly learn that anyone with ideals and a desire to achieve any substantive change to the way we live will fail miserably.
Well doen you for owning a business wtf has that to do with my comment!?
**they dont have a right to disrupt law abiding citizens going about their daily lives because they are unhappy with elected officials**
Very simply, they do, this is how England was built, not on servility and acquiescence, but on the citizen's active involvement in shaping our democracy.
If on the other hand your point ("they dont have a right to disrupt law abiding citizens going about their daily lives") is aimed at the police, I am in agreement.
@MRSstraightA no I think you'll find that it was built on servility and acquiescence right up untill the common man got the vote then the next big change was women getting a vote and that then opened up true democracy for the people previously it was parliament full of toffs dictating what the rules for governing the country.
**that then opened up true democracy for the people previously it was parliament full of toffs dictating what the rules for governing the country.**
: )
Get out of here !
At best (very best) you could argue we are functioning duocracy, but certainly not a democracy in any real sense - Lab/Con that is your choice for national government, it has been for generations and will likely be that way for many more.
And Parliament is undoubtedly still full of toffs.
@MRSstraightA true democracy in large nations is a fallacy, everyone actually physically having a hand in running the country is unworkable which is why we actually live in a constitutional monarchy.
As for toffs in parliament maybe on the TOry side of the house but there a few on the Labour side.
They .. each and every one of them .. regardless of wether they play a part in society .. regardless of wether they have a job and pay taxes .. regardless of wether they vote in elections .. regardless of wether they occasionally take a bath .. have the democratic right to protest!!
Hey McDuff73 and all you other pathetic morons that are happy to shout your mouths of and critisize these decent and caring people .. let me tell you something!!
The right to protests should only apply to those people that actually take part in the society they want to protests about i.e get a job pay taxes vote in elections and occassionally have a bath!
"IT'S OUR TAXES AND OUR MONEY WHICH IS BEING SPENT!" - Oh really? I bet 90% of those people do not have jobs and are off down the Doll Office after this. I can't what they are shouting at the Police, just trying to create an argument, when they are going to count on Police to be there atleast once in their life. It disgusts me.
The funniest part is where the police are booed and jeered for assisting the disabled feller to his feet and over to his wee cart as gently as could be thats awful that isnt it! shame on the police for being nice to the disabled!
Second funniest is the chant 'this is what democracy looks like', no democracy is where every one gets involved in the political process it doesnt mention anything about taking to the streets and disrupting the general public.
why is it the same dirty little looking rats (mostly white lads with dreadlocks) who protest about everything and anything they can!!!!!! get a job you useless whoppers!!!
Same as in america. The couldnt use tazers and night sitcks on them because they were not physicly abuseing anyone. The people in the road could have very well been tazerd i beleve they should have been beaten back into the filth they are.
Are we forgetting that these police officers don't make the laws there only obeying their superiors.
But most of the time the peaceful protesters are the one's causing the trouble and eventually start it. Also, the police officers are there to PROTECT YOU AS PROTESTERS. What if a group of people started to kick off and violently attack you, I know it's rare but it could happen.
The peace protesters do provoke them, they are just doing a JOB that is supposed to PROTECT everyone until some self righteous jackasses go too far and cause unnecessary drama and conflict.
apathy is the biggest danger to any democracy. If you study political history...you'll understand why...protesting against civil restrictions is absolutely vital.
I have studied political history and the biggest danger to democracy is human nature. People will always want to be in control, other people will always feel the need for a leader, and other DISAGREEMENTS will come from all people.
It's ok to protest but there needs to be a line somewhere. Yelling in the street and disrupting the lives of thousands of people means that steps have to be taken to ensure that these people are cared for. As a result police officers have to be present in order to keep order. And, who usually breaks the peace...the protestors themselves. On a regular daily basis it would be illegal to lie in the road and it makes no difference whether you are protesting or not.
the presence of the police - (particularly at anti-war protests such as the one on june 15) - often exaserbates the situation...I witnessed a number of incidents where the police assulted peaceful demonstrators - who were exercising their democratic right to protest the illegal war in iraq. Officers are unable to discriminate between the law and justice...which makes them a liability in the face of libery.
First of all, how do you say a war is Illegal? War has no rules. Secondly, Peaceful protesters wouldn't get attacked by police if they just put their message across. Someone always has to go too far and start everyone down a path of violence or douchebaggery.
Easy. War is defined by the U.N charter...which was formed by the United Nations. According to the charter, which is international law, there are only two legal reasons that a country can go to war:
1. If a soveriegn nation is directly attacked. (iraq did not attack U.S or UK)
2. If the UN gives authority to a country to go to war.
If a country decides to go to war without these conditions....that country has commited an act of state terrorism.
2. Very often peaceful protesters are subject to police brutality - I didn't believe it until I went to an anti war demonstration myself...if you go to something like this you will see for yourself. A policemans job is to enforce the law....if the law says that civilians cannot exersise their rights to protest...police wil stop them, and yes they will use any means necessary. Peace.
First of all the UN is worthless. It is the world's largest bureaucracy. War is War, there are no rules. The only things that USED to govern war were Honor and Respect, of which there is very little anymore. and as for Protesters, 9 times out of 10 you can get your message across without crossing any lines that give the law enforcement any reason to attack you. I understand the freedom to speak out, but don't make more trouble for yourself and others while doing it.
EpicDude, please understand that there is a difference between opinion and fact. To say the UN is worthless is to say that the U.S constitution is worthless...as it is written in the constitution that UN charter IS law. To say war is war is faulty logic...When hitler invaded Poland in the WWII - that was war, but most people (including Germans) aknowledge that it was morally wrong. After WW II President W. Wilson helped to form the league of nations so that no single country could invade another
your right to drive in the road lol nob head who gave you that right ? defo aint the goverment who will tax you to the max, also ain't god/evolution only gave you 2 leg's so guess what you have no right?

Now that same protest is controlled and regulated by Government in order to prevent people from bringing about change.
