@TheKuerbisaffe according to notebook review, the 6990m is around 8% slower than the 580m overall, but is faster in some games than others - from personal experience and what other independent sites seem to say - the 6990m OCs terribly. The 580m can OC very well, it lets me play metro 2033 and crysis 2 dx11 maxed out 1080p at fully playable frame rates with an OC to 750mhz core clock - it gives the same performance as a 560 ti, slightly less than a 560 ti - but is it worth £250 more?
@crapola1234567 It is the clevo p150, i dont know about the hm. upgrading the gpu on it is not hard, if you know what you are doing, you just have to get a new gpu, wich might be not all to easy to buy on itself.
@BlueAngelFlyer I can't wait for that game to come out...There's a lot of exciting games coming out this year, and they keep getting better and better!
@mcromeom5 and to reply to your spdif question, I think that it is for your 7.1 surround sound because the manual says that S/PDIF = out jack = Rear Speaker Out (7.1 Speaker only)
I have been reluctant to try it yet but I would think that it would work if you connected it to a receiver or anything else that accepts a digital spdif input. ~ I did plug in headphones to see if you can hear through the 7.1 sound test and it does work (only one the 2 7.1 speakers though)
@m4712ix Thanks for your quick reply! I have Turtle Beach 7.1 surround sound headphones. Do you think plugging them to the S/PDIF port via optical cable would give me surround sound?
@mcromeom5 if its the odd shaped one used in a general fiberoptics system and not 100% rounded off then I would say no. It's not a normal fiberoptic out its spdif and 100% round. But I did pickup an xfi card (external) when I got mine from exotic pc, (big mistake~sorry to say) but anyways I am still waying my options on my future audio setup...
@m4712ix Ah gotcha. Sorry to hear about your regretting purchase. My other option is that I could run my optical cable to a Mini-TOSLINK adapter which plugs into the S/PDIF port. Would this work?
@mcromeom5 The same amount of time it would take my company (because it is a smaller co.) to ship to you, and that is within the first week you order. I ordered it before the card was released out on the market (july 1st) but it showed up on my doorstep the following Friday when I got back from Vegas. So I know they started building it Monday and it was on my doorstep Friday. So it shipped in 3 days and was built in one business day. Let me know if you have any more questions...
@theblackidentety not yet, the mobile version does appear to have lower clock speeds than the desktop version but I havnt tried to overclock it. Also it doesn't appear to get hot anywhere other than the exhaust even during heavy gaming so I would think its possible.
@m4712ix Nice :) Please if you have the time try it and post some gameplay. I'd say 700 on the core and 3400 on the memory should be safe :P Use msi afterburner, easy and monitors everything important including temps :)
Got the same except with a 6990m. I love it!

is the amd 6990M a better mobile card????????????
TheKuerbisaffe 5 months ago
@TheKuerbisaffe I guess the simple answer is, it depends. Reports are saying that the graphics cards are better and worse at different games.
m4712ix 5 months ago
@m4712ix 580m is better on most if not all about 5%-10% seen on notebookcheck and just looking at the ultra settings.

Oh and one last question: is the S/PDIF port used for the optical cable to generate dolby digital sound?

@mcromeom5 almost without a doubt. As long as it has 4 headphone plugs then it should work, and setting it up is easy.
m4712ix 7 months ago
@m4712ix Actually can an optical cable be plugged into the S/PDIF port? That's what my headphones use.
