Americans borrow billions fro China then send the cash to Saudia arabia in exchange for oil and then we burn the oil in our SUV's to go on vacation.

Ignorance is bliss. If the American people don't understand that they are being robbed by the Federal Reserve system we are doomed. This stimulus bill is like putting a Bandaid over a gunshot wound instead of taking the bullet out. Our predecessors would be sad to see how we shrink from making hard decisions. We HAVE to let the market run its course and liquidate the bad assets. We will be lucky if we get out of this one without the Dollar crashing if we keep printing money like crazy.
I don't see people sitting back and taking it. There was a resounding "NO" coming from the people about the bailout, because we knew what would happen... the money would be *POOF* gone, and we'd not see any support. So what happened? Exactly that. Now, its a stimulus... which I actually support, since they're not rushing it through without thinking or setting up rules for expenditure. The bailout was the WORST kind of mistake... we'll have to see if a smarter stimulus can help at all...
No amount of stimulus government can provide will help. Government IS the problem. Government intervention in the market has unintended consequences (the current depression). Government needs to take its hands completely off the market place. Government can't control or stimulate the market place any more than they can control the ocean currents. Government intervention only makes the market inefficient. The market will correct itself if we would let it.
The recession was going a year before Bush left office. Somehow I doubt the recent bailout or stimulus "created" it.
Advocating for zero gov't involvement is, to be frank, an extremist position. It was the LACK of regulation (ie: gov't involvement) that allowed this to happen in the first place.
History has shown us that a well planned stimulus, focused on infrastructure and gov't job creation, can and does work in a low economy.
This market has not corrected itself. Time to act.
Government intervention (regulation, expansion of money supply, taxes) creates distortions in the market place. It takes money away from productive sectors and props up failing sectors. If regulation is the answer then this problem would be solved by now because we have regulation on top of regulation but the same thing keeps happening (bigger booms & busts). You are mistaken about the history of "well planned" stimulus or the Soviet Union would still exist. Central planning does NOT work.
When the stock market crashes in January 2010, when Obama's doubling of capital gains taxes actually happens, then lets take a poll and see how happy people are with Obama's decisions. You think this economy is bad? HA You haven't seen anything yet. This is just the beginning people. Wake up, open your eyes!
Does this panel of "experts" really, truly believe that President Obama and some of the most highly regarded economic minds, don't know what they're doing? He has hit the ground running, inheriting one of the worse economic disasters this country has ever witnesssed and these idiots don't think he knows what he's doing? Okay. What did Former President Bush (Jr.) accomplished in his first two weeks in office?
45% are against his stimulus, 55% for it. We're still divided and the politics of hope bullshit is over. It's now the politics of fear - "do what I want, or bring about economic ruin". President Bush, are you back so soon? PATHETIC.
People are high on crack right about now. When they see the "results" of this stimulus package, and find out they might net $500 extra cash (which will be spent quickly)then take a poll. People still think Obama is going to pay their mortgage payments and put gasoline in their automobile. Well, take your $500 and apply that towards your mortgage and gasoline. That's it folks.
Watch the tax revolt in California. It is just starting and it is growing fast.
Of course Joe does not know what he is talking about.
He is a failed politician because he is out of touch with real people. ( too much coffee? ) He was out of the charts wrong during the primaries, and the elections.
He just has bad opinions. sometimes i wonder why he has a show.
( maybe because he tries to be like john wayne, he kind of looks like him no? )
Stocks plummit? that was just indigestion, wait until January 2010 when Obama doubles the capital gains taxes. That's going to be a crash that only our great grandparents knew about. We ain't seen nothing yet!
Your worried about capital gains tax? What are you cashing in? Stocks or property? If you have to worry about capital gains, you're pretty well set and have not real worries one way or the other about the stimulus bill.
Wow, that was just genius, you're looking at the Micro, do you think I care what happens when I cash in stocks and property, I'm talking about the MACRO here, the American Economy?!?!?! Hello?!??! Anybody home?!?!?! Damn, you are an idiot. If our country and economy fail, we all fail, don't be such an idiot.
Did I hit a nerve or something? All those ?!?! and all. I am far from an idiot, I assure you. I don't want to see the country fail anymore than you do, but perhapses for different unselfish reasons. Let me suggest you look beyond the fake stock market for the true picture of the state of our countries economy. Not every company is public ya know.
Well sir, you have yet to prove that to me. I'll have to take your word on that one. You insinuate that I have selfish reasons for worrying about our country failing? I'm not worried about myself, I'm worried about my children, their grandchildren, and their grandchildren, not my own. I don't want to see them grow up in a government controlled "fascist" country and economy. Also, I work for a privately held company, but my retirement investments are still plummeting due to this fake market.
Also, we have been going under crazy inflation the past two years. Everything that I buy in the grocery store has almost doubled, while at the same time my pay-rate has remained static, so my buying or purchasing power has been greatly diminished at the store. I'm also worried about inflation. Secondly, I'm worried about our country, we used to be a great country, and I would love to see us return to greatest. We will not be able to do that in a time where our president is fine socialism.
And still getting it wrong. Eight years of screwing things up. We are in the middle of their screw ups. And they are saying if you do anything differently things will go badly. Main Stream Media and republicans, clueless forever.
Chances are 67% of Americans were'nt even aware of some of the 'pork' piled onto the stimulus package. As in millions for free condoms , millions to tell Americans they shouldn't smoke & millions for out of work mimes, human statues & ballet dancers.
Majority rule only works if you're also considering individual rights. Because you can't have five wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for supper.- Larry Flynt
"production" will happen as our government policies and tax code navigates to just that..."a manufacturing, producing" economy. Along other industries.
That is the whole point. not for old outdated product but better and more sellabel products.
That is the whole idea.
The government has subsided the oil industry, the agricult. industry, for ever
ok with this stimulus, there will be thousands of "request for proposals" put out by state, local and fed governement bodies, for projects, work, for people like you and me to bid and work.
Example: the bridge, repair, needs prof. consultants ( engi, drafters, etc ), mangrs, construction people ( concrete, steel, welders, even painters and clean up crews)...one job like that gets lots working...private individuals....you or me.
While I agree with you smilingseal, toneo2001 is addressing the much bigger problem with the foundation of our economy. Infrastructure is key to any economy to flow and is the responsibility of the government to help, but what we need to address is our addiction to consumerism and non-production. Until we do this we will always be in debt to other nations. Moreover, our money is created out of debt so until we have monetary (not fiscal) reform all of this is pointless.
How long and how much do you spend when your credit card is maxed out and your not producing anything others want? The government relies on those that produce to pay for the ones who don't. If the ones who don't produce make it hard for those who do, what happens??? The parasite is now bigger then the host, tf it remains this way the host will die... This is America
Actually capital is invested not spent but your missing the bigger picture here and that is debt that will be created by passing this. Maybe you don't care about debt that won't effect you but I care about the future of this country. Now a simple way to solve this debt prob (but would still cause inflation) would be to print our OWN money and not borrow from the Fed or private banks in general, a concept used by Abe Lincoln to fund the Civil War. Google Money Masters for a simple & great vid.
And the whole Republic v Dem thing is counter-productive and to me, no offense, quite childish. I'm neither because the majority of both parties have bad ideas and are essentially for the same thing. Lets be pragmatic and historically conscious to come a rational consensus on how we can improve our government and more importantly sustain free enterprise, which has allowed us to become such an economic giant.
You are all off the mark! The truth would blow yr heads off.The US Gov owes trillions to the banks. The Fed is a private bank and the US barrows $ to operate. At this time the US Gov owes 15Trillion. The bailout is really about paying the bill. The only reason to lower rates to have have yr borrowers be able to pay back. See Monopoly Men or Money Masters. Know that this StimPac is just making the minimum payment the USG owes. I dare you to look it up.
Joe wouldn't know the truth if it stood up topless infront of him. The Fed is a private bank and the US owes it money, about 15trillion. The Stim Pac is just to make the payments. Know that the FCC is set up by the FED and see Monopoly Men. The Fed leads money to our Gov to operate, it wants it's money back. Dare you to watch Money Masters oe Monopoly Men
I love that vid man! I think it has the solution to our problem of borrow excess amount of money thus creating the kind of inevitable debt we see to today. I wish more people would watch that vid or even understand the history of our economy and banks. Peace
You couldn't be more off. In 2 years this will start to take effect and the consequences will be dire for the Dems and Obama who now OWN this. The GOP is smart enough to distance themselves so that when this hits the fan they will not be at fault. THAT's why the Dems are trying so hard to guilt them into getting on board. They know they will pay a price for this down the road and now they know they are the ONLY ones to blame.
Barack has given into the GOP on point after point & yet they still stonewall.
If you thought 2008 was bad for the GOP look at the Senate races in 2010 when about 25% of the Dems are up for election & about 50% of the GOP Senators.
Right now, unless the GOP stops looking like asses, it looks like the DEMs will get 70 Senators.
I wouldn't say they're screwing themselves, but they are making a gamble on the stimulus issue.
If the stimulus succeeds in the public's eye, Obama will likely get another term and the Democrats will get even more power in the House and Senate.
If it fails, things will probably get worse (no jobs, higher deficit, high inflation), and the GOP will come out on top because they played it safe and didn't support it. They'll have another chance in 2010/2012
The reality is we're gonna have at least two out of three of those things (inflation, higher deficit) by passing this. Whether it "works" or not is purely perspective and relative to what aspect of the market you look at. But you are right as far as public opinion goes. Thats why politics is politics.
"Give them bread and circus and they will never revolt." - Juvenal (Roman Emperor)
What the hell are they talking about. How can people be asked about the Republican handling of a Bill that wasn't given to them till it already passed the House. They had ZERO to NO input in the making of this joke of legislation. Oblama came up with this crap himself. What is going wrong with the people in this country. Is there something making everyone stupid and only a few of us are avoiding it?
if you're saying the (R)etards talking points are accurate -never mind the Palin wannabe next to him-then join in on the Morning Joke crew next to Willie
There is zero difference for a long time between opinion and news either left or right. As a result, our televised media is generally pretty freaking useless.
See Outfoxxed or better yet the "Century of the Self". Guys Hannity and Oberman do what they do for ratings or because they have a strong opinion on the matter. On the Presidency however, I'm reminded of the old Yogi Bera line hope it isn't so, where "So and so was so bad that nobody can play that position well any more.".
Full Diclosure: GE(NBC's parent company) CEO Jeffery Immelt was given a pay-to-play appointment on Obama's Economic Advisory Board as payment for all NBC's pro-Obama, anti-McCain and anti-Clinton propagandizing during the campaign. You're essentially watching state-run news, sheep.
Joe, Mika and Chuck- *newsflash* OF COURSE you don't know what you're talking about! You all are being paid by your corporate bosses to lie- haven't figured that out yet? sheeesh!
This is how power and money talk. US and Israel (war crime, genocide, do not respect any Geneva convention ) fuck all the humanity from earth. Country like Iran will have same faith like Iraq where genocide, war crime conducted by US if it do not have anything to defend itself. US invade Iraq and do war crime , genocide and Israel invade palastain and do genocide, war crime.
Conservative Republi-con's NEVER KNEW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT! From Tax cuts, to Iraq, to education, to foreign policy, to abortion, to the stimulus bill, to any other topic you can imagine! THEY NEVER KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!
I agree with the polls 100%. We need this stimulus and the fact that President Obama reached out to Republicans proves he's trying to do what's in the best interest of the country.
Why the heck would big biz EVER recover under Obama and the Democrats? The CEOs and big stock holders hate the man and the party. They would rather keep the economy in the toilet for the next four years so that they can't raise taxes on them and so that he gets thrown out of office after four rather than eight. Obama was elected because of Iraq, nothing else. The problem is someone forgot tell the American public the issue had become moot.
You should never govern by the polls. You govern by your principles. Most people have been convinced by the media that President OBama is trying to be bipartisan. He is not, but he will always get credit for it by the media.
Control the money and the Press and it's a done deal on controlling the masses just try'n to scratch out a living because far too many just don't care.
Apathy #1 killer of the Republic of the united States of America.
It is rather comical but it was actually something that the senator that he referred to said... He said that his party was sorta like the Taliban of the congress...
I know a middle-aged man dressed in a nice tie & jacket was stopped on the street by seven people who caked & splattered him with mud & slush & had a sign thrown by him saying: I AM A GREEDY WHORE-SLUT. It turns out he was a high school teacher. It goes to show that it's not just bank execs anymore (he would have been killed if anyone knew that). if theres even a suspicion anyone is involved as a middle-manager or exec in almost any company they're being targeted for humiliation. Or worse.
This is the rule American poor & middle-class all have - if you're a congressional or house GOP member, any executive at a bank, investment firm or lending company, you're considered sewage. There's no distinction between whore-bankers & politician sluts Uh-uh. All should be treated like terrorist enemies. If any one of these whore-slut politicians & execs gets publicly executed for their lustful, loathsome idolating greed, there will be a party in the streets like VJ day.
Oh one more thing. The MSM and the politicians (especial Republicans) need to stop caring what the over 50 crowd thinks. It is like they don't want our votes, or our viewer-ship. We are about to be the largest voting block.
What a shock. People don't watch T.V. anymore. Thy can go to the intertubes and get info for themselves. Only old ppl watch T.V. (with out questioning it).
Joe S doesn't know what he's talking about most of the time. He got people giving talking points to him, and they don't know anything either. So, is it any wonder that they just talk in circle completely out of touch with regular folks. Geesh.
As happy as I am to see this, I think the poll really only shows the Obama caravan driving along the road looking at all the pretty scenery instead of whats really in that stimulus package.
Exactly. Most Americans approve of the Obama Administration's handling of the stimulus bill and disapprove of Republican obstructionism. Period. End of discussion.
That said...something must be done to get the economy moving and that something must come from either the government, businesses, or the people.
I encourage everyone to offer their skepticism of the stimulus bill but they must offer something in it's place. I just wonder where this skepticism was during the former administration.
A sorry state we're in, when half of the government wants the population to sink or swim.......I feel like its Katrina all over again!....Millions of us have already sunk and millions more of us are sinking!
The only reason Obama's numbers are so high is because the effects of his policies have yet to be felt. After Obama adds a few $trillion to our national debt and inflation soars out of control opinions will change.
"Bush Jr. tacked on 4.2 trillion to the national debt (nearly doubling it). If you want something to blame crazy inflation on, there you have it."
--
Inflation is caused by the Federal Reserve, which is privately controlled, above the government, above the law, and free from regulation. Bush, Obama, and the mainstream media are nothing but puppets to this system.
You only got it partially right. Inflation can also be caused my international lending rates (not set by the Fed) as well as increases in Federal taxes (not set by the Fed).
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Those polls are stupid. The poll could be "do you approve of Obama's handling of Ron Jeremy's package" and it would be 67% approve. And the same is true, but in reverse, of anything related to the word 'republican'.
while i think obamas atempts to get republicans involved are a good idea it's not working out like he expected.
the republicans seem to be determined to play the spoiled child pouting in the corner because they can't get everything their way like they have for the past 8 years.i find this attitude childish and pitiful because we need both groups working together to resolve these issues. both dems and repubs have good ideas and bad ideas but they just can't get together on the good ones...
Both left and right sides are destroying America.
They are the same but with just enough spin to keep the sheeple looking the other way.

DeadlyChinchilla 2 years ago
Government intervention (regulation, expansion of money supply, taxes) creates distortions in the market place. It takes money away from productive sectors and props up failing sectors. If regulation is the answer then this problem would be solved by now because we have regulation on top of regulation but the same thing keeps happening (bigger booms & busts). You are mistaken about the history of "well planned" stimulus or the Soviet Union would still exist. Central planning does NOT work.

What did Former President Bush (Jr.) accomplished in his first two weeks in office?

People are high on crack right about now. When they see the "results" of this stimulus package, and find out they might net $500 extra cash (which will be spent quickly)then take a poll. People still think Obama is going to pay their mortgage payments and put gasoline in their automobile. Well, take your $500 and apply that towards your mortgage and gasoline. That's it folks.

Hello?!??! EJR914 2 years ago
Boomer1949 2 years ago
Well sir, you have yet to prove that to me. I'll have to take your word on that one. You insinuate that I have selfish reasons for worrying about our country failing? I'm not worried about myself, I'm worried about my children, their grandchildren, and their grandchildren, not my own. I don't want to see them grow up in a government controlled "fascist" country and economy. Also, I work for a privately held company, but my retirement investments are still plummeting due to this fake market.
EJR914 2 years ago
Also, we have been going under crazy inflation the past two years. Everything that I buy in the grocery store has almost doubled, while at the same time my pay-rate has remained static, so my buying or purchasing power has been greatly diminished at the store. I'm also worried about inflation. Secondly, I'm worried about our country, we used to be a great country, and I would love to see us return to greatest. We will not be able to do that in a time where our president is fine socialism.

It takes money to make money.
money gets spent. That is life 101 my friend.

Money spent on business ventures, it even takes money to make a proposal, that money is spent. you call it invest...fine

ok with this stimulus, there will be thousands of "request for proposals" put out by state, local and fed governement bodies, for projects, work, for people like you and me to bid and work.
Example: the bridge, repair, needs prof. consultants ( engi, drafters, etc ), mangrs, construction people ( concrete, steel, welders, even painters and clean up crews)...one job like that gets lots working...private individuals....you or me.
the is the fact jack

While I agree with you smilingseal, toneo2001 is addressing the much bigger problem with the foundation of our economy. Infrastructure is key to any economy to flow and is the responsibility of the government to help, but what we need to address is our addiction to consumerism and non-production. Until we do this we will always be in debt to other nations. Moreover, our money is created out of debt so until we have monetary (not fiscal) reform all of this is pointless.

Also, Donald Trump and businesses make money by spending WISELY, not crap like new TSA uniforms and spending more money on social programs.
Buckeyes1647 3 years ago
How long and how much do you spend when your credit card is maxed out and your not producing anything others want? The government relies on those that produce to pay for the ones who don't. If the ones who don't produce make it hard for those who do, what happens??? The parasite is now bigger then the host, tf it remains this way the host will die... This is America
toneo2001 3 years ago
Actually capital is invested not spent but your missing the bigger picture here and that is debt that will be created by passing this. Maybe you don't care about debt that won't effect you but I care about the future of this country. Now a simple way to solve this debt prob (but would still cause inflation) would be to print our OWN money and not borrow from the Fed or private banks in general, a concept used by Abe Lincoln to fund the Civil War. Google Money Masters for a simple & great vid.
alby711 3 years ago
And the whole Republic v Dem thing is counter-productive and to me, no offense, quite childish. I'm neither because the majority of both parties have bad ideas and are essentially for the same thing. Lets be pragmatic and historically conscious to come a rational consensus on how we can improve our government and more importantly sustain free enterprise, which has allowed us to become such an economic giant.
alby711 3 years ago 2
You are all off the mark! The truth would blow yr heads off.The US Gov owes trillions to the banks. The Fed is a private bank and the US barrows $ to operate. At this time the US Gov owes 15Trillion. The bailout is really about paying the bill. The only reason to lower rates to have have yr borrowers be able to pay back. See Monopoly Men or Money Masters. Know that this StimPac is just making the minimum payment the USG owes. I dare you to look it up.

They know they will pay a price for this down the road and now they know they are the ONLY ones to blame.
vidguy67 3 years ago
The GOP is screwing itself.
DillonX 3 years ago
I wouldn't say they're screwing themselves, but they are making a gamble on the stimulus issue.
If the stimulus succeeds in the public's eye, Obama will likely get another term and the Democrats will get even more power in the House and Senate.
If it fails, things will probably get worse (no jobs, higher deficit, high inflation), and the GOP will come out on top because they played it safe and didn't support it. They'll have another chance in 2010/2012
Both parties know the stakes
guyclark5525 3 years ago
The reality is we're gonna have at least two out of three of those things (inflation, higher deficit) by passing this. Whether it "works" or not is purely perspective and relative to what aspect of the market you look at. But you are right as far as public opinion goes. Thats why politics is politics.

That said...something must be done to get the economy moving and that something must come from either the government, businesses, or the people.
