Chessboxing is an interesting concept, but there is something I'm still wondering: as it is possible to win with a TKO, why would a professional boxer not be able to win ? I mean, he could simply let his chess time run, or play very safely a few moves, like a stonewall for instance, and then knock his opponent out.
Both players' chess ratings are not really high (good club players, but very far from master level),so if they're not any better at boxing, they wouldn't last a round against a pro.
@Idneed30charforanick Same could be said with chess, as it is possible to win with a checkmate. If a pro boxer is forced to move a certain number of moves in a round of chess (especially if its timed chess) against a Pro Chess player. The game would end even faster than a knock-out. If you are good chess player, you know how quickly this can happen if you outclass your opponent, even if he plays "safe".
The idea isn't about being a master in one area, but a balance in both Mind and Body.
You mean that there IS a rule that forces the chessboxer to play a certain number of moves each round ?
Well, even if it is the case, I wonder what number it is. Any 2000+ player has every chances to last 30-40 moves before checkmate against a GM. I wouldn't be very confident about beating a player rated 800 elo below me in 30 moves if his only goal was to last long. I would be much more confident about lasting 30 moves against any super-GM, and maybe even against God if I had white.
@Idneed30charforanick They play using speed chess. Each player has a total of 12 minutes to play the entire game. They lose if they exceed that amount of time. If they are taking too long to make a move, they are issued a warning by an official. After the warning is given, they have ten seconds to make a move. If they don't make a move in those ten seconds, they are disqualified.
I think I've read somewhere that this warning only applies when they don't make any move for a full round. And as any chess player knows, except in very specific cases, it is impossible to checkmate even the worst beginner player in less than 4 moves. In general, it is already pretty hard to do so in less than 10-15 moves. On the opposite, it would be pretty easy for any professional boxer to knock me down in "less than four moves".
@raoulhery ??? I don't understand a word of what you're saying, but there's two ways of winning: Either you knock your opponent out during a boxing round, or you check-mate him during a chess round. Either way you win. There's no way to win at chess, then lose at boxing, or the other way around, because the match is then already over.
fucking hell you bunch of stupid mad cock suckers hahaha chess boxing ANY stupid motherfucking boxer thinks he can take me in chess come on down even the world champion hahaha as if something so uncultured as boxing could ever compare with the mind blowing game of chess as i said before this is an open chess challenge to all those moronic fucks ill prove your sport bull shit im an intermediate player ANY FUCKING BOXERS OUT THERE ? or are you all ooo scared ! MORONS
@young2theb Brock Lesnar is a wrestler. If his past fights are any indication of his boxing ability, I think it's safe to say he couldn't box his way out of a paper bag.
such a cool hybrid game/sport
