Popular or folk music tends to derive from the lower classes, in the case of America, that was both white and black communities: there's no clear divide between what was black folk and what was white folk: there was cross-pollination.

Listen to: Henry Thomas - Fishing Blues' (1928) - it has striking similarities to Old Time music, like the Carter Family. You need to wise up mate.
