Lol...The twangy hillbilly music in the beginning :D Yea right, however there is a certain amount of truth to this video and yea I am America:) Go to an Aussie British,Irish ect. bar during a soccer game when there team is playing and tell me Americans are loud,,A yeaaa oook, alrighty then:D
What does all this do for the advancement of Americans in the world's perception? Nada. It just makes the respectful American travelers the oddball "nice Americans" and "not like the others." This accomplishes nothing.
When I traveled in Europe, the loudest folk I met were Germans- the point is that no one owns the title "The Most Boorish," etc. It's about individuals. You remember the obnoxious ones because they drew attention to themselves. You don't recall the polite Americans because we were the ones you assumed were Europeans. A Parisienne asked me for the time once. When I answered in French (with US accent) she looked like she was going to vomit. Mistaking an American for a French woman, the horror!
At 0:46 "...so if you're going abroad, maybe you should research as much as you can about world events so you can counteract that stereotype."
Oh, I get it. I (as an American) have to research about world events more than people from other countries just because of the ignorant stereotypes said people have about us? That seems totally fair (he said facetiously)

i live in chicago, IL and here were so up front about everything we dont give a shit what anybody thinks of us because we will be us and not be fake because people want us to live down to there exceptions us americans will not change to make people happy. LOL this is why i love my home.
normal behaviour of young people in the states appears boorish, ill-mannered, in almost every country in the world. So the advice here is good: keep your voice down because it is good manners to speak softly. Dont try to be jokey or "wise"--it just doesnt work. And respect people--dont "tu-toi" anyone until they ask you to(an issue all over Europe), its bumptious. Stick to Herr and Frau etc until asked otherwise. Avoid other Americans at all costs and join things (Greenpeace?) & go to meetings!
@lostalex77 I stick by my advice--it's pretty much what people are saying in the video. They know what they are talking about and so do I. Anyway, xenophobia is an irrational fear of strangers more or less. What we are talking about here is culture norms---no moral valuation on that. American cultural norms seem out of place...almost everywhere. Thats all.
@CobinRain Oh okay, so if it's out of place that means it should be shunned? Americans have every right to express their culture everywhere in the world, just like everyone else!
@lostalex77 Express their culture? Is that what you call it? All I am saying is that in a free society you have the "right" to express yourself but it may be boorish and distasteful to others. And if youre a guest in their country it's uncouth and disrespectful. You dont disagree, do you?
@CobinRain disgree about what? you are contradicting yourself, you're saying that it's boorish and disrespectful to not respect another culture, and at the same time you're saying it's perfectly fine for europeans to disresect and dismiss American culture.
If you don't see the hypocrisy then yu are an idiot.
I've worked in a major tourist zone (near Universal Studios) if I treated other cultures the way europeans treated Americans, then i'd be called a racist.
@lostalex77 What American culture? What I have seen is bumptious behaviour--like calling people you've hardly met by their first names. Americans think they are being friendly--maybe you think that is "friendly" and Europeans are just up tight. It is that sort of thing. Is that American "culture" to call everyone you meet by their first name? Do you see what I mean? And I accept it goes both ways. Tipping in many countries is seen as demeaning. SO what should we do in the US? Tip? Not tip?
@CobinRain I wasn't aware of that, but yea, calling someone by their first name is considered friendly. Or at least if you know the person, if its someone respectable you should call them by "Mr./Mrs." and their last name. And yes, tipping is seen as a good thing, but that's because waiters make shit money in terms of wages without tipping (as a former waiter, believe me). Though I understand the differences.
Honestly, people in britain are much more trashy/obnoxious than the Americans are anyday. The only good part of britain is buckingham palace london where most american tourists visit, other than that, it sucks there.
I really resent this. I have never stereotyped people from other countries and I have always kept an open mind. I hate that I'm being judged by people who don't know a single thing about me- all because of where I come from.
And they think Americans are the ignorant ones? I think that's being hypocritical.
its a good thing i guess the world portrays american stereo types as white american not hispanic americans *me being hispanic ofcourse* so should i ever visit europe again i wont have to worry about stereo types as much since i wouldnt be seen as a quote un-quote "american"
americans are trash, garbage and everyone on the planet hates them.
americans are ignorant and totally uneducated and they are a laughing stock all over the planet. and they stink. what people around the planet don't know is that americans are the most unhappy people on earth.
@glower125 so yeah, just be stereotypical douchebag all your life. while i agree that our educational system is in the shitter, i'm not trash, garbage, i dont stink and i go to school with a smile every day. and if we suck so much, how are we the number 1continental super power in earth
umm, the people who said they thought Australians rode kangaroos to school were probably just being smart ***es .... or at least I HOPE that they didn't seriously think that haha XD

So yeah, the idea that Europeans are too sophisticated to party and get drunk is, unfortunately, falsetastic.
Wow some of the things people said Americans do i was just like "What? People do that?" I'd like to think that means I'm not as annoying as some other Americans, hopefully.
I can't wait to go overseas I'm going to be so patriotic just to piss people off like I'm not going to hide my home country because you guys don't like it! GO AMERICA lol :)
I plan to visit/live in japan I like the culture and it's amazing to know people from other culters and background I mean I live in Texas and meeting a Mexican or Hispanic isn't new and I know enough of their culture I just need to get out of Texas and move back to las Vegas and fly a plane out to japan with my bro and Just have a good time.
@Pearlharbor350 I go to japan for 1 month a year to enjoy the culture and party with the locals, brush up on the basic cultural interaction differences. we never have a bad time and generally as long as your not spilling drinks on people or screaming at the top of your lungs they are very helpful and enjoy the "entertainment" value. :D Enjoy!
so what i learned from this was, do next to nothing, don't talk to people about anything but world events, say america sucks, and don't act like a frat boy. gotcha.
I would say to any person regardless of your citizenship, get informed about the country &culture you'll be visiting.Whether it's an American abroad or an Indian or Mexican in the U.S. Social blunders are common, no one's perfect; often Americans get a bad rap, perhaps based on most young adult's behaviors, taking for granted freedom of speech & new freedom from their parents.A common worldview that the US has served as the world's superhero/power and that Americans have money makes them targets
typical american for europeans: a fat, ignorant, violent, stupid, prude, conservative republican from texas or any other western state who has a gun next to his bed, says yes to war and death penalty, thinks that the USA is the best country in the world and the other countries are all uncivilized and above all has no idea about the world beyond America's borders.
I know that these stereotypes are not true at all but this is our widespread picture of americans in Europe.
Don't listen to 'Will' from Australia. Australia is all about drinking too much and passing out somewhere, its also definitely about trying to chat up girls. Not sure wtf he is talking about..
@DepictGazZ No kidding!I don't do retarded crap like that anyway, but apparently they have their mind made up about ALL of us ahead of time.A word to the wise...if you vacation there,go with your own friends and keep it in your own circle.
@arch571332 Same here, but apparently most foreigners think if some of us do wierd crap like that, then all do.I think I'll blow my vacation money for downpayment on the Harley I've been wanting.
dont worry America The whole of Europe thinks the British are loud obnoxius drunkards who like to piss in their streets and start fights. So being loud isnt really that bad.
Why do people think Americans are crazy and loud??? cause we are and we like to have fun, we dont sit around quietly we dance, shout, chant and have a good time....try it some time you might like it......
@demarcos69, That is one of the many ugly stereotypes that Americans are labeled. I'm an American and I'm interested in other countries cultures. I really like British and European music. They got good Metal music. :)
When I visited USA, I found the people in New Orleans were a lot nicer than people in NY city were, but maybe that's just because of my Scottish accent. In the south they could understand me, in NY I had to speak so slow I felt retarded! those are some good tips up there if your visiting Europe, especially the loudness,
Now if I ever visit America again, I'm not gonna buy a girl a drink, I'm just gonna bump into her and grind up and down her.......is that really how it works there?
@TheYaom Maybe one of the reasons America isn't a broke-ass 3rd world nation known for coffee and kidnapping is that we don't allow a patriarchy to handicap the potential of the women who coinhabit this country.
@majinspy that's why you're all pussy whipped and american women masculine and the bottom of the barrel when compared to other women.
the USA is a thirdworld country, hence many poor people, economically and mostly culturally.... the poorest country on the planet in terms of education and culture.
@TheYaom Ok, I'm sorry, didn't realize you were such a troll. I'm getting 3rd world country from a Colombian, lol. We have THE best university system in the world. Look it up. In terms of culture, ours is everywhere. Western and specifically American culture have pretty much dominated the world for the past 250 years. Deuces :)
2.) Understand that we come from a country that has pride based on propaganda, fear and myth. Learn that there is nothing to be proud of in the least, unless your sports team wins or the like.
3.) Remember that the entire world views Americans as a joke, dont do anything to support this stereotype
4.) Abroad, you're an ambassador, be respectful &vrealize you are a Guest/Foreigner, know your place.
@JustThink00 No it doesnt... and you cant qualify for a study abroad program unless you demonstrate knowing enough of the language to communicate independently.
Im not so sure what those "good things" are that America has..mind you, there are good things, but nothing exclusive: which means nothing any other country might have. Still in comparison to some countries, America has a much lower standard of living and quality of life; ignorance & arrogance make it hard for us to progress as a country
I apologize for my first point, since I seem to have forgotten which video I was on. I wasn't thinking about the fact that this is addressed to people intending to study abroad.
However, it is absolute madness to suggest that America has not invented a single thing of use.
@JustThink00 By the way, most Europeans go East now to Asia. since 2000, there has been a significant drop in European students coming to America for study abroad. They now seek other locations. Asia, then Europe rank top globally for study abroad programs.
Why is it that in every country where white people forcefully stole from the natives have prevalent racism. Technically they are squatters in those countries like America, Australia, Canada etc..
LOL drink how they do..... hahahaha. Don't try and bullshit that they don't drink in other countries just as bad. Goto London, Amsterdam, PAris, or Buenos Aires. You just don't want the university of California to look bad.
My impression of most americans I've met in person is that they talk alot, but just uninteresting, shallow boring smalltalk, just annoying noise really. But maybe I've just been unlucky with the americans I've met. I see lots of okay americans on YouTube, so.. : )
@winterstellar Yes we americans are full of poor negros, we don't have the capacity to talk like normal human beings, all 305 million americans are all just the same person, as our non-american masters, especially if you are from europe, you have the duty to make sure that we all obey you as you set up your businesses over here to exploit the fact we cannot have more than a week vacation, and sub-living wages as you make all the money and go on trips around the globe.
@75egcg I was trolling a bit in my comment. I actually have friends from my own country who have moved over to America and who like it a lot there, and have told me lots, so I know that much if not even most of America is totally okay even if you have some weirdos and bigots and some people have long working hours and little vacation. : )
This video was well made. The advice in it seems to be directed towards the mentaly challenged though. I don't know what type of Americans are traveling the globe, but some of this advice is fucking stupid "ride a kangaroo to school"? REALLY? Don't be patriotic, I am sorry but if are not patriotic towards your country that is your problem. Here is a little advice, stop being so fucking uptight. I have been to over 32 countries and have made friends in all of them. I am sure none of you, have.
America is a country with a huge population so yes, we have more stupid and fat people because we have more people in general. "American" doesn't even mean anything. A huge portion of "Americans" are actually foreigners looking to change their lives (like me) so it angers me when people generalize about Americans because literally every demographic is represented here and everyone is different. So stop saying you hate America or Americans, it's insulting to all those who found happy lives here.
@ValeriyaAviva I agree with most of what you said, but China has a much larger population and they're not known for being fat. I don't necessarily think it's the peoples fault though. The food and drug administration should put some sort of limit on how unhealthy our fast food can be.
@ValeriyaAviva Nice theory USA : 380million EU:500million
atleast half of those 380million supported the gov:
*during the iraqi invasion 70% of the us population believed that saddam hussein was directly involved in 9/11...all it took was rummy on national tv saying "wmd"
' you still voted for bush after the fact
*Your gov made up a lie and then invaded a country with your full approval
sorry, but barring some 1% that makes up nasa and universities you are all dumb fucks
@syntaxed2 Nice theory but I didn't vote for Bush. My family didn't vote for Bush. I am, however, going to vote for Ron Paul who voted against the Iraq War and any war so please stop with your generalizations. You call me a dumb fuck but look at yourself, cursing at people on the internet? Really?
Good tip for Americans studying abroad: Don't act American. Americans kno wat I mean.
But I love how we're the most criticized in reference to going to other countries. I get some Americans are pretty ignorant (ok like REALLY ignorant) but I don't feel like we're ALL obnoxious 10 year olds incapable of being respectful. That's a stereotype in itself.
@Oldman5675 I dont know what that America was on about with the dancing in clubs. thing...clubs in England are full of people dancing and having a good time.
If he ment going up to strangers and start bumping and grinding with them, then yeah your going to get whacked pretty quickly. lol
IM just putting it out there that every single person is different is not just americans, or canadians, or autralians. We are all human we have our flaws and i dont think people reconize there,Im american and i know about the rest of the world, i have common sense, and i know people dont ride kangaroos to school. So sorry but you people need to calm down and stop bagging on other countries, like grow up. seriously.
@LeeGeorge08 you're calling us inbred? ur "royal" family is more inbred than u think. to keep blood "royal'' brother and sister would have kids, but we're the inbred ones apparently.
you fucking troll, dont even get me started on the royal inbred family. youve never even been out of your country have you? not many here are actually overweight, you just beleive everything you hear. and no concern? we give more money to african nations than anybody else. grow up..
@LeeGeorge08 Ahahaha, seriously? You're going to generalize Americans? Do you know how many people live in this country? People like you only increase hate and ignorance when we all should be more open and accepting of different cultures. It's ridiculous. We share a planet after all. I like this planet. Can't we all just get along?
@LeeGeorge08 it's so funny how you say that americans have no concern for others, but a few words before you said that, you called them: inbred, monkeys, greedy and overweighted pigs. Funny stuff, right?
Seriously, if you want to say something bad in internet, at least have some good arguments and do not contradict yourself in your own terms! When you have a lot of hate over someone, you just turn to be blind and foolish...take care buddy! btw: i am not american, but brazilian! abraços!
I'm From the U.S but there's nothing special about brit trash (( england )) euro trash, aus trash, new zealand, china, etc. I've been to many countries and guess what? They're all WORSE Than the United States. Also you stupid foreigners here on youtube (( youtube is an american website )) You weirdos need to understand that America is a continent, North america consists of Canada, The United States, And mexico. I think euro trash need the education not Americans.
These are definitely stereotypes, not everyone in America is obnoxious and ignorant or like to dance naughty and get totally wasted but yeah, I know some people like that and they annoy me like crazy
This is all just about drunk college kids abroad -- there is nothing to learn from this. Screw Europe and Australia and New Zealand -- they're all just American wanna-be's anyway -- the copy US culture like crazy but then resent it -- they would all trade up to be American -- trust me,
i find it reallt funny how ppl in other countries are so judgemental of how americans act, but when they come to our country we respect their customs and their culture and dont make assumptions about them. thats becuz the US values diversity
Here in Colombia, the only things I've heard about Americans are: 1.They all are rich people 2.They are involved in every war in the world 3. (From Colombian women) American men are extremely attractive 4. Americans are loud. In my entire life, I've only meet few American people, and the only thing I can say about them is that that they are very educated, nice and wealthy.
This is interesting... I'm an American, and I'm not loud, or get drunk, or high... I'm slim, and I know world affairs... I don't look at a lot of television, so I don't exactly know what is going on in the world... And I'm learning French next year... (sophomore) and I don't hug random people on the streets... (plus I don't eat a lot of fried and greasy foods... It's disgusting to me...) so stereotypes are just stupid anyway...
I love americans. Even the loud talking doesnt bother the only thing that irritates me is how arrogant americans act sometimes. By the way. Thumbs up if you know Rory can sell you weed.
Tom from New Zealand! go NZ! Ohh yeah and people in NZ get pissed all the time :D And in Italy & Spain, and tbh most of Europe... big partying scene in Europe and Oceania.
I can not stand American bars or clubs. It is so hard to have a good time in LA with out some sort of drunken or drugged out scene. Everywhere you go people are always loud as fuck and its annoying.
@126anonymous That's because I never made it to Germany, but I'm sure they have some excellent drunks there as well. Especially from what I've heard about Oktoberfest
When you go abroad. Studie in Holland. Middle of Europe. Australian, American, Spanish, British, Danish, German, Norwegian the rest of the stuff. For the rest you'll see loots of Chinees etc.. They are all called Ping Pong.
You'll stay in one house. They will stuff you all together in one of our houses. From that day on.. you'll get drunk, high, diiildoo's and.. study(hard!) and probably get some diplomacy.
Continued:worry about me.Even with all the messed up crap that I've had to go through so far I see those experiences as things that have made me a better person.
I love this country even with all it's faults.I have no resentment and respect other cultures.and all we want is some respect for all that we have done and accomplished.
I may fit some American stereotypes but nowhere near to the level you believe.
I'm a little over weight but not to the the point to where I have trouble getting around. I go running through the woods at least three times a week for fun.
I love to read all kinds of books from biographies to fiction.
I'm a little lazy, sure, but me and my little 11year old sister do the house chores and laundry so our parents can relax when they get home from work.I try to stay out of trouble so they don't get wor
Now hold on a minute for those of you who are bad mouthing America and it's citizen is that you are just as ignorant as you so rudely proclaim us to be.
I'm 15 and I can see that you are just affiliating everyone from America with the ones you met.
i love to beat people up and run over deer in my pickup truck while wearing my cowboy outfit and drinkin beer... i also like to blair ted nugents song strangle hold while i stab bears to death with my bare hands and then go to a loud bar and talk about how awesome republicans are. then ignorantly bitch about how other countries dont deserve oil. AMERICUH!!!
UCSTD, dont believe what they say IV is full of high school parties and outsiders, girls are sloppy as fuck cant handle their alcohol, pee'in on the ground and shit... sickning.
Cant be to classy, or you'll be a boring person. Now overdoing it is being ignorant. Respect the culture and people and their social rules and you should be fine.

:D Enjoy!

USA English speaker here with one question for the UK English speaking masses: Why do you say Americer?
SpazzyMcGee1337 2 months ago
typical american for europeans: a fat, ignorant, violent, stupid, prude, conservative republican from texas or any other western state who has a gun next to his bed, says yes to war and death penalty, thinks that the USA is the best country in the world and the other countries are all uncivilized and above all has no idea about the world beyond America's borders.
I know that these stereotypes are not true at all but this is our widespread picture of americans in Europe.
Best regards from Germany :)

1.) LEARN THE LANGUAGE
2.) Understand that we come from a country that has pride based on propaganda, fear and myth. Learn that there is nothing to be proud of in the least, unless your sports team wins or the like.
3.) Remember that the entire world views Americans as a joke, dont do anything to support this stereotype
4.) Abroad, you're an ambassador, be respectful &vrealize you are a Guest/Foreigner, know your place.
5.) Stop being obnoxious & loud.
6.) Lose weight
7.) dress better
skershaw2000 4 months ago
@skershaw2000
learn the language??? are you crazy? that takes years. If you're visiting that's impossible. If you're going to be a resident, it's a necessity.
2. the fact that america has many faults does not undo the good things that it does have.
JustThink00 3 months ago
@JustThink00 No it doesnt... and you cant qualify for a study abroad program unless you demonstrate knowing enough of the language to communicate independently.
Im not so sure what those "good things" are that America has..mind you, there are good things, but nothing exclusive: which means nothing any other country might have. Still in comparison to some countries, America has a much lower standard of living and quality of life; ignorance & arrogance make it hard for us to progress as a country
skershaw2000 3 months ago
@skershaw2000
I apologize for my first point, since I seem to have forgotten which video I was on. I wasn't thinking about the fact that this is addressed to people intending to study abroad.
However, it is absolute madness to suggest that America has not invented a single thing of use.
JustThink00 3 months ago
@JustThink00 By the way, most Europeans go East now to Asia. since 2000, there has been a significant drop in European students coming to America for study abroad. They now seek other locations. Asia, then Europe rank top globally for study abroad programs.

ValeriyaAviva 5 months ago 58
@ValeriyaAviva I agree with most of what you said, but China has a much larger population and they're not known for being fat. I don't necessarily think it's the peoples fault though. The food and drug administration should put some sort of limit on how unhealthy our fast food can be.

@ValeriyaAviva Nice theory USA : 380million EU:500million
atleast half of those 380million supported the gov:
*during the iraqi invasion 70% of the us population believed that saddam hussein was directly involved in 9/11...all it took was rummy on national tv saying "wmd"
' you still voted for bush after the fact
*Your gov made up a lie and then invaded a country with your full approval
sorry, but barring some 1% that makes up nasa and universities you are all dumb fucks
