It amazes me that there are so many recordings of this Great man that have been unheard by the general public, but each one turns out to be another gem. Keep em coming
I swear I live in the wrong part of the U.S. I don't belong up here in the northeast with these snobs. I love country music. Its been my music since I was a little girl.I;ve even listened to Hank Williams music since I was little.I may live up north, but hopefully not for ever. But my soal belongs to the south.
I got hooked on Hank when I was 10 years old, in 1963 when I first heard his very best of album that was released that year. I could find another who could come close to Hank.
Hank recorded it on his personal recorder. It wasnot a professional recording. The instuments were dubbed in after his death. It is rumored that he swapped this song with drinking buddy Lefty Frizzell. If that be the case, one can only guess what song the Lefty claimed that was really Hanks. Frizzell had a couple monster hits that sounded a lot like a Hank Williams song.
Allegedly, Hank and Lefty wrote 5 songs together. Lefty published them after Hank's death. He didn't want to take full credit for writing the songs but was unfamiliar with Hank's publishing company and did not want to deal with them without Hank's help. He instead used Hank's alias, Herman P. Willis. The songs were The Tragic Letter, You're Too Late, Two Hearts Broken Now, You Can Always Count on Me, and I've Been Away Too Long. Lefty recorded all five songs as a tribute to hank in 1953.

They sped this up. Originally it was just an acoustic song, just him and his guitar.

This is Hank Williams as Luke The Drifter. My mother told me that when he made these songs no one really knew who Luke was. TOO COOL.
