  • The real sheldon cooper !!!

  • Nice, not to forget you also need to write custom software which can use multiple gpus efficiently.

  • I'd love to see a Dr Joost reality tv show.

  • Ha Ha. "We pushed the button and nothing happened...." Worst feeling ever for a computer builder. Tears have been shed.

  • I got a comment on the top comments of a youtube video. My life is complete.

  • Dear santa...

  • That computer is being used with a beige CRT. WTF

  • @falubii For Profesional and Scientific purposes CRT are still prefered because of colour dynamic range and accuracy. Though IPS has come a long way CRT is cheap.

  • This guys proves that some people are just born to be nurds. Not that I mind nurds, but this guy couldn't be anything else.

  • @socdk It's spelled "nerd" and nerds rule these days.

  • @Poseidon500 Oh really? You must be some kind of professor since you know how to spell "nerd" correctly. Derp, I learn something every day. I know it's spelled "nerd". I'm spelling it "nurd" for kicks and giggles.

  • @socdk Nope. It's more likely that you spelled it wrong out of ignorance and now you are covering your arse.

  • @Poseidon500 Yeah, you just believe that if it makes you feel good.

  • @socdk It does. : )

No worries man. I'm no hater. I'm just messing with ya. Besides, I don't think the guy gives a sweet flying shit if you call him a nerd or not.

  • you know?..the computers they use in labs and to do researches are 100x times stronger than gamer computers

  • Now do it with an EVGA SR-2 Motherboard and 7x HD6990s this will give you 35 TFLOPs and and around 21000 Streamprocessors.

  • Bitch ran off with 6k rig

  • G965M-S...and I love it.....

  • I have an ASRock .

  • I want those pci extension cables. PS... What is Euro to dollar conversion as of now?

  • I want those pci extension cables.

  • What's the current Euro to dollar conversion?

  • Linux saves the day as usual.

  • EVGA SR-2, 2x Xeon 5690's and 7x GTX 590 1024 CUDA core GPUs anyone? ^.^

  • @FastraGPUSuperPC fuck GIVE ME A PRICEIF ITS LESS THAN 600,000 IM SERIOUS!!!! what 6,000 uros ill take it before my son's 16th birthday

  • @0712705027 umad bro?

  • @FastraGPUSuperPC fuck GIVE ME A PRICEIF ITS LESS THAN 600,000 IM SERIOUS!!!!

  • WHAT THA FUCK LEGO MODELING!! USE UR HANDS@#$#% WHAT A WASTE OF PC APPLE SHOULD GET THAT SH&T IMPROVE IT AND SELL IT WITH THE NEXT GTA PRE-INSTALLED FOR LESS THAN 500$ THUMBS UP!!!!

  • @0712705027 He Mad

  • @0712705027 calm down dude

  • WHAT THA FUCK WHAT A WASTE OF PC APPLE SHOULD GET THAT SH&T IMPROVE IT AND SELL IT WITH THE NEXT GTA PRE-INSTALLED FOR LESS THAN 500$ THUMBS UP!!!!

  • This is fucking awesome! Geek powa ftw!

  • You guys trying to kill the fucking power?

  • Imagine the work to replace a failed HD.

  • what's the name of the girl stealing the fastraII?

  • i bet their playing crysis 2 right now with this monster!

  • @tupacole More like 6 instances of Crysis 2 simultaneously .. sounds great for a lan party :P

  • Faster than what super computer they never said give me some specs.

I should also say that other fellow super computers are not as fast because they procces millions upon millions of complex equations and not pixels.

  • This guy is my hero. Teraflops and a desktop? FIX YA FACE!

  • But can it run Crysis?

  • lol you can hear he's dutch :') (Dr K.J Baterburg)

  • @odi22865 Dutch? Are you insulting me polesmoker?

  • @lesleyhenriquez what?

  • @odi22865 He is obviously Belgian, a secondrate Dutch. Prick.

  • @lesleyhenriquez so? Dickhead.

  • HAHA! EW! THIS GUY LOOKS BRUTAL

  • Does it play Abe's Odyssey?

  • This guy ain't gonna get laid 100%

  • can i play Crysis on it?

  • @lopezp Probably youll just be playing on one GTX295, since they are not in sli or anything

  • Next year, intel onboard graphics can output such data....

  • @loll69 y sure

  • @loll69 no thats still 2-3 years off, or we would have laptops witch computing power of 8800ultra 3 way SLI

  • Stuff like modifying linux kernels? Were did you need the linux kernel for if I may ask? And what tweaks did the 64bit bios needed?

It doesnt seem te be a big development it just looks like a pc with with enormous amount of GPU's or did you need to develop the software?

Am not really impressed ...just stick you university name on it and ofcourse it will get publicity.

What did you do more??? impresse me :)

  • But can it play Crysis?

  • @CyanideXCloud no .... it can crash the game with an error like this " your computer is way too good for this game . "

  • Minimum requirement to play Crysis 2!

  • @christlubas

    Hahah, Win!

  • @christlubas jajjaja XD

  • @christlubas I Can run Crysis 2 with 9800GTX+ Q6600 2.4Ghz 4Gb RAM 850W PSU

On Max setting with AA and get super good FPS

  • @christlubas Oh come on, Crysis 2 has lover requirements than Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead. And worse graphics too. Lower res of the textures, worse lighting and low poly models, all hidden under shitload of light effects - glares, blooms and all that.

  • AWESOME!

  • with a computer like this? your fixed for 10 years of high end gaming !!! :)

  • @yuvalpelled except for the processor

  • How heavy would a thing like that weigh if you put everything inside it, no room left? I don't call that light.

  • Comment removed

  • can you say heat?

  • I think this guy is pretty closely related to Grubby

  • motherboard with 7pci-e slots! thats frickin awesome man. thumbs up

  • It didn't fail to start the first time due to the BIOS. It clearly failed because you forgot to connect the fusion reactor.

  • How do they deal the PCI-e bandwidth limitation, to my understanding you can run all those cards with full 16x bandwidth.

  • @kaede15 They will run in 8x pcie bandwith. This is enough for a single-gpu card to do real-time rendering , but not for a dual-gpu card. But however you will only loose like 5% performance when running a gpu on 4x pci express.

But btw! Why use the cards original thick coolers so that you have to use pci-e extenders?! You could just have used watercooling, so that the cards only take one slot each.

  • @devrerffs thx! about the watercooling solution, I guess they ran out of money...

We don't care about those 3D reconstruction thinggy, I would like to know if storage bandwidth isn't an issue how long does it take to transcode a 1080p to h.264? Yep no gaming, just plain old video transcode using CUDA to my freaking PSP.

  • lalol stolen on a bike

  • Is the guy talking being a nerd on purpose? I mean, exaggerating his nerdy appearance!

  • That's really neat!

  • But will it run Crysis?

  • @RiptorSLO Dude if that thing doesnt run Crysis ...

that would be a GIANT EPIC FAIL !!!

  • Since you have solved the spacing problem with the use of flexible cables, why do you not space the cards out more? This should allow them cool more effectively right?

  • Dont judge books by their cover, this guy get more pussy then you can imagine.

  • @keywolf23 no

  • Nvidia sucks

  • shut up, he is the ubernerd, built in a secret lab from parts of lesser nerds!

    <3 Joost :D

  • how it could support a 12 GPU's ???

an a pc could hold just a 4.

  • this will probably run 12 Crysis in Very High Settings :P

  • Very funny movie with very interesting news :-)

  • hahahahaha mine will kick this machines ass... ez mode

  • Nice. :)

  • Man that guy is a pimp.

  • i bet you could cook something in there.

  • NEDERLAND!

    ow wacht nee belgen :\

    laat dan maar

  • That dude got ripped ! Intellectually speaking ofc.

  • @ 1:24 I was like AAAaa!! but then i realised it was a human

  • LOL your movie was very funny and informative. I hope you get it working, good luck and much success.

  • Congratulations!

...But I still wonder how much power the system uses...

  • peak gpu stress = 1200

  • they should build a fastra III with ATI 5970 :) that would be even greater :)

  • They can't! It has no CUDA and OpenCL isn't supported well.

  • Congratulations on the amazing project and thank you for taking the time to share with everybody else.

  • Gute Arbeit, Respekt!

  • 4x5970 = 18,56 teraflops of computing power and @Raiku1992 yes you can but you have to modify motherboard and bios/drivers.

  • GRemioooo

  • can play Crysis on max with 60 fps?

    LOL

  • you can allways go with liquid cooling which would save room

  • it´s an Lian Li case the P80

  • which Case is this? Is it the coolermaster HAF?

  • cool I will have one ^^ but ith 4 ATI 5970 ^^

  • yea i believe in that

  • @HL3AlcAida lol u can't crossfire 4 HD 5970s

  • This is crap but it would be cool if it be possible I think ,but actually one 5870 have the power of one GTX285 in some benchmarks its near to the GTX295 a quad CF with them would be cool too.I´m waiting for the Fermi I heard that it should have 3 Millarden transitors this is alot , and the ATI 5XXX card will be cheaper then. What is the Price of one 5870 in the USA at the moment in germany the cards price increased because there are not enough aviable one card costs between 350€ or 400€.

  • They don't have to. The system doesn't work with Crossfire or SLI.

  • Oh my god there is a girl there!

    lol.

  • Lol the guy looks 100% like a stereotypical nerd. Respect tho, he's probably 3x as smart as me.

  • @MiniZiper More like x300 smarter then you.

  • @MiniZiper probobly 3x richer too.

  • Very nice work brilliant idea giving the graphic cards there own cage.

  • you can use nVidia Quadro FX 5800 it has 4 gb

  • even i want a fastra2....

  • Miwwions of euros

  • Get some N2O on these babies and overclock the fucking shit out of them!

  • rly gr8 idea and its intresting coz this project puts into question the sense of super computers for milions euro

  • Respect!!

  • Lovely stuff, guys! Well done!

  • this guy is "THE GEEK"!

  • the dude sitting on the desk with the hideous sweater sound like he has a MOUTH FULL OF SHIT

  • Five stars for cramming 13 GPU's in to a single case and all the awesome work you guys have done.

  • Congratulations guys!!!!!

    it rocks!!!!

where can i order mine? :-P

  • Comment removed

  • If it has 7 graphics cards each one with 2 GPU's, why does it have only 13 GPU's? Is one of them not working or is one of the graphics card working as a "master" with only 1 GPU?

They should have predicted before they've first tried to boot it that the BIOS wouldn't handle so much hardware.

    Very interesting computer though.

  • It actually has 6 GeForce GTX 295, which is 12 cores; and one GeForce GTX 275 which is single core. 13 cores total.

  • @haizaar Yeah, but in the article I read about this supercomputer, it was said that it has been used 7 identical graphics cards, each one with two graphics processors.

  • But will it run Crysis.....?

    that is the Question .

  • omg got a live nerd

  • NVIDIA RULEZ !!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Everyone who says go ATI obviously does not understand what they are doing. The NVIDIA CUDA projects are something that ATI just can not compete with right now. They have a lot of work to do in this area

  • There used to be a time when ATI was always known as the affordable budget video card company, but perhaps no longer.

  • Batenburg looks like he got kicked in the face by Optimus Prime.

  • hey! why won't you use ATI video cards??? hauhauhauahuah

  • @Hieauw lol... they got 7 graphics cards and got heat problem. now imagine using AMD heating masters

  • This make maxishine's PC cry to shame.

  • Does it run Crysis? :33

  • @nintendowiids12 I am pretty sure the latest Nvidia drivers are that good now.

  • Haha :P

    the best kind of nerds!

  • hm... this can be usefull in army ... :) ...

nice idea :) now iran can have super computer for nuclear development :)

  • Now this is geek porn, yummy

side note: the kind of porn many people say we geeks have on our computers, yepp this is what they are talking about ;)

  • does any1 know how or where i can buy one of those pci express expansion ribbons?

  • Phenomenal!!

  • I'd LOVE to see folding@home folding proteins on 13 GPU cores simultaneously.

  • You guys are legendary. Us folders have been waiting for a BIOS like this. Thanks again for your advice on 4 by 9800gx2 in 2008.

    -Van_Arnam

  • Nice to hear that my engtx275 is out there supercomputing, not only trying to run crysis above 21 fps in my place ;d

  • Würde damit mal Crysis spielen wollen macht besteummt spass :)

  • ha 6:15 2000 watts is very high for a computer.

  • what i wanna now is

    1. how come those cards arent fried from the heat

    2. thermaltake psu? you have to be kidding me

    3. why didnt they watercool -.-

    4. not even the prolimitech megahalems? just stock?

  • 1. The silicon on the 285 and 295 GTXs is designed to work until 110 degrees C.

    2. That PSU has worked for them for over 1 year. So i don't know what you're getting at.

    3. This is meant to be workstation. The risk of a water leak is totally unacceptable. It isn't meant to be a LAN show-off PC.

    5. No other heatsink would fit under there, since the top cards are in the way. Also, the CPU isn't doing anything critical here, so cooling it isn't a top priority. The program only uses the GPUs.

  • Comment removed

  • I like the beauty and simplicity of the FASTRA I. Have you guys considered simply upgrading the cards on the I, build a second FASTRA I and use them both? Then you could add a third, fourth and so on...

  • LOL at 6:15 he tripped the breaker. This thing must draw over 2,000 Watts! Absolutely insane. Some guy had previously said that using water cooling wouldn't make the GPUs run at a lower temperature. Of course it would! That's the whole point of using water to cool GPUs and CPUs. Of course it would still output the same amount of heat, but it would run cooler. But as he points out, the risk of running a water cooling setup would still be quite risky, but only 6,000 Euros risky.

  • Iran's watching this

  • OpenCL FTW!!!...

  • Excellent work guys. You guys are really thinking out of the box. Previously we could only think of teraflops in terms of computers that occupy large rooms with special cooling facilities.

  • this is really nice piece of hardware

  • Hahah e você acha que vou perder meu tempo ajudando a humanidade, onde eu posso "FODER" a humanidade e desfrutar disso? Enquanto otários trabalham pra humanidade, eu aproveito minha vida as custas de vocês. E viva a cadeia alimentar!
