Thats why F1 is boring now. At the speeds that F1 cars travel theres no way that overtaking will be easy. But back then at least the cars were fun to watch just on their own. The sound was better, the cars looked better. Nowadays the cars are boring and ugly and they're only getting worse...
Remember Schumacher had to do his best effort in quali with one eye. The other one was horribly irritated and. He still was able to deliver the same laptimes. It's amazing. In the end he lost the GP because of it and he won the Most Unfortunate Driver of the year award by F1Racing because of it if I recall correctly.
@MacHoodio Disagreed. He was strong yes but I wouldn't have called him the strongest driver that weekend. He lost in qualifying and struggled to stay ahead of Montoya and Schumacher for the first half of the race. Then he got a bit lucky that Schumacher got stuck behind a slowing JPM and it was enough to beat him to the line after seriously driving wide. The first? Yes. The fastest? No.
If there is anything thats made for Mr. Schumacher its got to be a Ferrari with a screaming V10 behind him not a Mercedes V8 blender strapped on a silver truck these days. Get back to Ferrari Schumi. I just cant stand Alonso at Ferrari now.
@Schuey4ever f2005 was better, too bad tyres didn't perform, but it was so technical advanced that drivers could't feel bumps or kerbs on the steering... they had to go back with f2006 to give them more feel....

I did read somewhere before though that "boffins" analysed f1 cars and in terms of tyre degradation, weight distribution, engine ptw ratio, performance vs other cars, etc. that the F2002 was the "best" car ever.
I know "faster" cars have been built since because of technological advancements and just general evolutions and fine tuning of every component, but no machine ever blew the others away like the F2002, nothing could touch it!
