I'm from Normandy and sometimes I go to Omaha beach and its cemetery. I think we can't imagine how hard it was for those courageous american people (and also british and canadian) to try to free a foreign country that they didn't know before.
You're really Heroes guys and if I'm french, I owe it to America and I'm glad of it (sorry for my bad english)
These should be our true heroes, young men and women willing to put their lives on the line every day. The courage they show should be cause for shame to those of us whining about what we are "entitled" to. The "heroes" that we hold in high esteem such as athletes, entertainers, and politicians are nothing compared to these true heroes. We as a nation and society are so far off track I fear we will never recover. I salute these real heroes and thank them for what they do.
@beb70s I totally agree with you. In addition to that, look at the obscene amount of money that is paid to athletes and entertainers. They are paid 10's of millions of dollars. And for what? To play a game or act a part. Lets then compare that to the pay of a military man/woman. They sacrifice time with their families, their physical and mental well-being as well as their own mortality andthey are paid a pittance. It's shameful. It shows where we (mis)place our values. (Continued)
@Msdistarr (cont) We forget about the spouses. My dad was in the navy for 25 years. He went on West Pac for 6-8 months at a time quite a few times. There was no war at the time, but I remember everything fell to my mom. She had to do EVERYTHING, alone . She had to care for 3 kids, a home (and all that entails) and any problem that would arise and still worry about dad. She was married to military. It was very difficult on her but she did it. She is gone now but she's forever my hero.
@garymjenkins Yes they are. In fact my mom was in the Navy. She was a nurse. That's where she met my father. And on a blind date. Dad just passed away a year ago from Mesothelioma which is a rare form of cancer caused by asbestos. The asbestos was in some of the materials he handled while aboard the US Navy's ships, during the 60's and 70's. Goes to show, there doesn't have to be a war for a military man to die.
I type this as teas stream down my face. How history flys by...from the horrors of 9-11...to the start of the wars to these most moving images. So many heros have gone before their time...so many more steel themselves to take their place on the line. They are our best hope against the gathering storm. Heros, for just one day...podemos ser heroes, isi solamente solo para un dia. To all my brothers and sisters in uniform, my thanks.
It's a great song, but without the sad war pictures.

No disrespect to Bowie, but I actually much prefer this cover of the song over the original. I think they did an outstanding job.
