I was gonna ask if that's Nina Simone... but anrun answered. she's got such a unique voice! loved it... i have to find this entire show somewhere. it's intense!
eitheir way meldrick is a street nigga, Braugher is more uptown brother. Theres nothing wrong with either it makes for great chemistry between the two.
ej2: thank you so much for this. It's HOMICIDE at its multi-faceted best. This tight sequence is a stellar blend of acting, screenwriting, timing, dialogue, music and Clark Johnson delivering Meldrick at his best. I love Meldrick's response "Cold Black Steed? - I'll be damned" and then his gentle kindness with the mother at the front door. This episode is under-rated; it is motion picture in quality and condensed in an outstanding 46 minute story.
I agree that this episode as a whole is underrated. It gave Meldrick's character a chance to shine (but I could have done without Falsone). I'll have the other clip up tomorrow (Sorry that it's taking me a bit of time, my work schedule is making me exhausted). Anyways, happy Homicide watchin'!
I remember this episode when it was first shown, one of my favorites of the series, and wanted to see it again. Thanks for posting the clips.

Clark Johnson (Lewis) is from Philadelphia. Andre Braugher is from Chicago, but his character was originally from NY who later moved to B-more.

Before it was "hip" to use source music in TV shows (as is so prevalent now), this show was great for that.

Wasn't that song used in the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair?
PS, I get it. Nice. It was cool to see it happen in our lifetime.
