@ Brenna - All animals do respond to conditioned reinforcers and smart/skilled trainers are aware of this process. Do you know Thorndike's Laws of Effect? Do you know how respondent and operant conditioning work or do you operate your training from a "recipe" method or worse yet, from a "I gotta be alpha/dominant" approach? It's not about a device. Good trainers use knowledge and lateral thinking.
When I first say this i immediately thought Hedwig! your alive!! but then i noticed that he said it is a boy so sadly its not Hedwig T.T Why did she have to be killed in the 7th book why!?
very impressive. There is a "subadult" snowy owl that has been spotted in our area for the last few weeks which is very rare in Texas. We are going to where it's been showing up for several days to see if we can get a glimpse. The footage I have seen...she is beautiful. Very majestic. Love Owls.
That sorta depends. Birds that are petted from chicks to adults usually enjoy it. However, most untrained fowl, like ducks, chickens, sparrows, the like, will view it as threatening. Picking at their feathers, preening, is usually much more pleasant or the animal, as it is social behavior between them in the wild.
@Constantine160 Of course the wild ones are not going to be accepting , but once theyve become accoustomed to you it is usually a soothing experience for them.I have never experienced problems with wild ducks or geese. They all have a special place that is soothing to them (ducks and owls especially-I can easily put them to sleep just by rubbing the ears). It is all in a person's touch & disposition & knowing how to handle them-yes,they love being preened & scratched
@RaDiumDrummer A bit more in depth answer is that getting petted helps remove excess dander from their skin and calms the irritation that comes with constant feather growth and shedding.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
why do you want to force the owl to do something that is not in its nature ? just let it be!!!! or better yet, set it free!!!! you can always get a DOG if you want a "bud" !
@MrRelhed Don't pay any attention to the many mindless animal activists we have here on youtube. They'd believe giving a cat a bath is considered animal abuse.. -_-
@DancingHippoYillie Thanks , appreciate the comment ! I actually saw a neg. remark on the sneezing baby panda video LOL I never would have thought that sharing what I love and thought was cool could generate some of the comments that it did (I deleted the really nasty ones)
@DancingHippoYillie Hear hear! It's disgusting. There was this one series of videos ("Ravenmania") about a wild raven that hung around a guy's house and learned to mimic his voice.
One animal activist started screaming that the guy deserved to burn in Hell.
All because his hand was briefly visible in the video, and that was "animal abuse" to him.
It seems like no YouTube video about animals is complete until it's been "blessed" by PETA's vanguard of idiots.
@zarehara What the hell is wrong with you animal rights nutjobs? Does PETA pay you for every attack on a video of an animal you make, screeching snesless demands that they be set free or sobbing about how cruel humans are for DARING to even LOOK at an animal?
Why would you even think unreleasable or domesticated animals would be happy being FORCED (yes, FORCED) out into the wild, where they would die lonely, awful deaths at the hands of predators, unreliable food sources, or other hazards?
@MrCaptainNObeard I work for a wildlife rehabilitation center , which is licenced as such. I personally do not hold a licence but I do get to interact, train, rehabilitate, care for etc. a wide variety of animals legally through the center.
In order to own a raptor for falconry, there is a process that you go through-first you become an apprentice for 2 years (i believe) and then you are inspected to make sure you can maintain the bird properly. I'm not sure what it costs though
@lobbodawy And why do you think he is UNhappy ? You are only witnessing a minuite out of an entire day. If you are thinking that he's unhappy because he's not free, then sorry to break it to you-he has no choice due to his condition. I do assure you that Blizzard is content-he is exercised daily , he waits for his human companion in the same spot (on his stump by the door) every morning. Owls are not like dogs, they are content to sit for long periods of time.
@zZH3ndr1x The actual act of taking care of them isn't hard,it takes time , patience & money . Making sure that thier space is clean, fresh water and food doesn't seem all that difficult, but factor in a few hours (minimum) a day -every day- for training and handling ..most people lose interest within a short period of time-that's the hard part. I am not famailiar with the laws in the UK , but elsewhere in Europe it is legal

@nonlinusal Thank you ! I will admit however, that I may be providing a disservice by putting my face so close without describing the dangers of this.I have worked with large birds(small too) for quite a while and have learned to read and feel for different attitudes, movements etc.If you notice, I am scratching/rubbing his head while I give a "smooch" -this not only calms him down but I can feel the slightes twitch and give my face time to get away.
