I used to call songs during their tune-ups (perfect pitch), so as I was standing next to the soundboard w/ my buddy, listening to 'em fiddle around before the opener. My friend turns to me, asks, "What is it?" "Sounds like Eyes...but I don't think they've ever opened a show w/ it. Oh well, screw it..." & I scream out "Eyes...Eyes!" A bunch of people looked @ me like I was crazy...next thing ya know, we hear the opening chords, & twice as many turned around to look @ me w their jaws on the floor.
awesome , the sure joy when the dead make greatful dead magic ..... and i love it when they are havin so much fun playin , even when bob is a little tired , but the dead pick him up anyway .....
I'm still walkin', so I'm sure that I can dance...... sigh..this was my second to last show....Eyes opener, this opening 2nd set..everybody was ON, sigh...
great stuff welnick and hornsby, my first show was about 3 months after this sept. 91 boston gahdin and many followed thanks to every one who posts this stuff "the soundtrack to MY movie!!!!!!!!
My favorite of all the shows I've seen through the 80's & early 90's. I wish they would put this one out on the View from the Vault series. Anyone who was there or has heard the tape should agree that not only was it a killer show but an AMAZING set list. Killer Speedway & Loose Lucy as well.
I remember seeing this show. They opened with eyes and without doubt teased Dark Star in the first set. Saw them later that summer at Shore Line on 8/16 and they pulled out Dark Star in the first set. Ahhh the memories!
Bob Weir is lookin like a preppy little Marin kid with the purple polo short and all! They sound awesome and Bruce Hornsby is a good fill in for Brent Mydland and has always had ties with the Dead.
Yes... another good video. Maybe the pinnacle as far as performances are conscerned. However, somthing is muissing... Brett's raspy harmonius voice. If you listen to when the boys play prior to brett's passing, you will hear brett's voice in the background. It truly brings the song to a new peak...
Hmmm...
