this lady was and still true country along with Dottie West have been a blessing to the opry Got one more singer that is the hottest thing in real country music and that is Amber Digby She can sing the heck out country music But you have to get her music off the internet country radio has gone to pop..She is a talent and her band is great ..
I Ordered A "CD" & Key Chain From Ms Seety . They Came About 3 Months Later. Ms Seely Wrote me a Note & Apolojized for the Delay, Never Mentioning That She Lost Her Home, Car, Clothes, Everything She Had in the Flood In Nashville!! She Autographed Everything, Also Sent Me a Beautiful Picture of Her and Her LIttle Doggie!! NOW THAT IS A "SUPER STAR" IN MY BOOKS!!
Jeannie has that little rasp in her voice -- bluesy -- that sets her apart from a lot of her contemporaries. Her husband, Hank Cochran (RIP) wrote this classic.
I ordered a CD from her a number of weeks ago. When it came, she apolojised for taking so long to get to me. She said the "flood" reuined many artists things. She sent me a picture of herself, her little doggie and autographed her CD.
I listen to the Opry whenever I get the chance, and I always love hearing Jeannie host the show. I love her singing, and I love the way she interacts with the audience. She just seems like the nicest lady you'd ever expect to meet! Even just from listening over the radio, it's like you can just hear that big old smile on her face.
Tonight Hank Cochran the writer of this song and Jeanne Seely's ex husband, passed away. He was 72. They loved each other. At he old Opry House everyone would go
to "Tootsies" on the break, I heard Hank say I hope Jeanne don't sing that tonight. He was very emotional. I heard Jeanne sing theis song at Bever Dam, Ky. With a tear in her eye. Make the World go away and so many more. Hank made us laugh, cry and think. Lisa & I will miss him.
I haven't heard this song in years Thank you. If you didn't look real close you would swear it was Skeeter Davis!'. And that is meant as a compliment, not a put down!! Ten Stars
I like the version sang by Tammy Wynette better, the one that Rayette sings from the movie "Five easy pieces" LOVE IT! especially when your feelin down, a real blues type.

She surely can sing! each time I hear country music I can't help but think that Portuguese fado had a strong influence there. Portuguese were among the first Europeans on North America.
Jeannie, it's about time that someone got this great song on here. I worked in radio for many years, & there wasn't a day that I didn't grab this "45" to spin on my show. You're an awesome stylist, & you're soooo gorgeous to go with it. I am friends with Tony in Ohio, & have written to Jan Howard a few times. I make it to the Opry when I am able to get off work, & your portion of the show is always my favorite. I would love to meet you & Jan both someday soon. Traditional Rules for me.
Jerry left Nashville and lived for many years in Hawaii. In the fifties and sixties Jerry was the number one steel player in the world. At the heighth of his career he was painting the interior of houses and to my amazment I entered a drug store and there he was working behind the counter here in Nashville.
I was listening to the Grand Ole Opry a couple of weeks ago and Jessica Simpson was on. She sang two songs and the crowd was just really into it, but then Jeannie Seely came up to the mic and said, "We have time to do a little of this"... She sang "Your hand is like a torch..." and the crowd just went wild. Now that is a performer. A true country legend.
I love this song and first heard it sung by Wilma Burgess who has a fantastic voice. Wilma
never got the recognition I feel she deserved.
I have seen Jeannie Seeley on the Opry for many years and she was married for a long time to one of the best song writers who ever lived. This is good song writing here for sure. Thanks for posting. - Paula

Jeannie was introduced by the late Jerry Byrd.
Jerry left Nashville and lived for many years in Hawaii. In the fifties and sixties Jerry was the number one steel player in the world. At the heighth of his career he was painting the interior of houses and to my amazment I entered a drug store and there he was working behind the counter here in Nashville.
