Well, this is not vivian solo, this is the end of love bites song, Vivian did his guitar solo on adrenalize tour that was amazing, since that time they jost have made songs and vivian contibruted as a songwriter too, if you haven't heard the solos of vivian in the las five albums with def leppard you miss the piont, even he has his solo blues album and his band clock he has great work there, the fact that he is not playing metal now days it dosen't mean that he is not good guitar player.
As good as Viv is, he was never songwriter enough to do what Satriani and Vai do with the mostly instrumental gigs they're working now (or always were, in Satch's case). A waste of talent? Yeah, I'd say somewhat true. Phil Collen is good (I am really jonesing for his guitar with the sustainer) - but he's not good enough to change over from being the shredder to being the slow, tasteful player - Viv is, it's part of the band's chemistry, that was that. Still a shame, but cash is king.

Well said. The chemistry Phil and Steve had hasnt resurfaced. Steve added classic guitar riffs and memorable melodic solos. We dont get that anymore with the newer stuff. Phil's flashier style worked really well with Steve's. Vivian is an awesome soloist and a great guy, but I miss the awesome, classic riffs and melodic playing in Def Leppard's new stuff. More than anything, I think whats missing from Def Lep is exactly what Steve took to the grave. RIP Steve Clark.
I really think it is sad. Vivian is such a great guitarist but so is Phil. Together they could do so much and take Def Leppard to new heights but Vivian is playing crap and Phil gets all of the cool stuff to play. If they only thought differently, they could go into a new direction and rival the 80's and 90's. I thought the whole idea was to progress.

Well said. The chemistry Phil and Steve had hasnt resurfaced. Steve added classic guitar riffs and memorable melodic solos. We dont get that anymore with the newer stuff. Phil's flashier style worked really well with Steve's. Vivian is an awesome soloist and a great guy, but I miss the awesome, classic riffs and melodic playing in Def Leppard's new stuff. More than anything, I think whats missing from Def Lep is exactly what Steve took to the grave. RIP Steve Clark.

I really think it is sad. Vivian is such a great guitarist but so is Phil. Together they could do so much and take Def Leppard to new heights but Vivian is playing crap and Phil gets all of the cool stuff to play. If they only thought differently, they could go into a new direction and rival the 80's and 90's. I thought the whole idea was to progress.

vivian completely screwed up by joining def leppard, he was meant to be with dio, thats where he reached his full potential. i understand that def leppard needed another guitarist, so why didn't they just take jake e lee, his stye would sound great with def leppards music

I have to agree with you there. I can think of a dozen awesome riffs he created while with DIO but none he has done with Leppard. Don't get me wrong I like Def Leppard too, but Viv is a "one-guitar-band" guitarist!

@dk7dk7 In my opinion his guitar playing now is much better then when he was with Dio. The Dio stuff was great and memorable but now his playing has matured and less of a frantic mess.

Well on this video just can hear the same solo that steve recorded. I don`t know why you attack vivian, he is the best replacment of steve, i love steve but come on the band has to continued, Vivian is one of the best guitar players in rock music he was asked to join with the lepps, is no his fault for what happened to steve, and technicaly is better guitar player than steve, Steve was the master of riffs for def leppard RIP.

Furthermore, Steve was a better player. (Opinionated) because of the melodic style he had. After all, thats my opinion.

By sloppy, are you referring to Steve? If you are, then I will tell you that Steve was hardly sloppy. Anyways, I would just say that Vivian does give them a new sound, but it's just not the kind I like. Good guitarist, but he is not for DL.

You mean his tone? The way he played when it came to Rhythm was powerful. When it came to his leads, they were very melodic and unforgettable. I don't believe any of his solo's or rhythms were ever sloppy.

well then take phil collen for example. his playing is very tight, very precise in every way. steve clark plays with a looser tone, not so sharp, and the transitions from note to note are less precise and more sorta laid-back. i guess sloppy isnt the best word to use, but i meant in comparison to phil.
