  • thank you for sharing, great video :)

I wonder if you do any post processing after taking the footage? I have a K55 1.8 lens but my test videos somehow come out a bit grainy. From previous comment you said that you used a f2 lens, how could the video be so smooth?

  • @lushdimple The camera automatically adjusts the exposure while in video, it defaults to a high iso normally while shooting video so it usually gets grainy. If you don't know already you can set the camera to lock it's exposure with the AE lock button. Before you shoot you need to point the camera at the brightest light so that the camera knows to use a lower iso and then lock the exposure. when locked you can manually adjust exposure compensation to make fine adjustments.

  • @trickboarder247 Many thanks for your prompt reply. Ah ha, that explains somehow. The quality did come out better though the layer of grain was still visible. I just tested again in my room with fluorescent light. So I set the camera at video mode, changed the WB, pointed it at the lamp and pressed AE button to lock (I'm not sure if the camera recorded the setting at this step as I didn't see any signal from it). Did I miss any step or my lens is not as good as yours? It's a SMC K55 1.8

  • @lushdimple You have to go into the settings and change the function of the AE lock button. out of the box its set to autofocus i think. when AE lock is working, you'll get an asterisk on your screen. As for focusing, I think it just takes practice. Sometimes depending on what youre shooting, i think it's easier to keep the focus fixed and instead move the camera closer or farther away till the subject becomes in focus.

  • @trickboarder247 Wow, all your replies can be combined into an excellent video tutorial for this pentax model. Thank you very much for sharing experience. It's highly appreciated :)

  • @trickboarder247 Thanks, I might consider making something if there's enough interest

  • @trickboarder247 And you also mentioned about the manual exposure. Aside from your guidance I can't see what else I could control the exposure, except for the EV value. Was it what you talked about?

  • @lushdimple not much post processing was done, i think i might have adjusted contrast a bit. the color was done in the camera and not in post. it get a consistent color palette that doesn't constantly change while moving around while shooting. Don't leave your white balance on AWB. Set it manually to suit your scene. Thanks for the comment, I'm glad I could help.

  • @trickboarder247 Yea, contrast adjustment will help reduce the grain if any. Ah since you use a manual lens, how do you speed up with the focus then? The ring on K mount lens has a length of 280 degree (well, at least mine :)) so it takes me a few secs to focus the subjects right. Many thanks for your intensive reply so far. I'm very appreciative of your help. Actually, you could go that far for the first try, what a natural photographer you are! :)

  • I saw a comment of yours on a K-R video.

I should be getting this as a Christmas present and it'll be my first DSLR and apparently it's a really good camera for it's price but the video isn't the best. I'm too bothered about the camera as it seems enough quality as you've shown in this video..

Could you upload some of your photos taken with it so I can see the quality or could you tell me if it's good enough quality? Is it recommendable as a first DSLR? What's the best accessories (lenses)?

  • @Disconn3ction first and foremost, i think the thing to realize is that the person using the camera has more impact on taking good pictures or video than the device itself. This camera, or any dslr has the capability of taking great pictures if you are willing to spend the time to learn how great pictures are taken. For its price, this camera is made very well and has a lot of great features, it's built much better than canons or nikons in the same price range.

  • @trickboarder247 thank you. :) very true its the person taking them that makes the picture.

  • Where would be the cheapest deal?... I'm def looking into getting one for my first DSLR

  • @chungd87 Ebay I think, If you buy with the bill me later option they give you time to pay it off, like a credit card

  • such great talent, just not oging to be recognised :P

  • this is awesome

    mine is very noisy

    how did you fix it?

and what settings and lens did you use?

  • @dhyazzperr @dhyazzperr the kit lens' aperture doesn't open wide enough (f3.5) to deal well with low light. to compensate the camera boosts the iso making the image noisy. you need a lens with a wider aperture (f2-f1.4). go on ebay and look for one. anything with a pk mount will work. This will ridiculously improve your videos. This was shot with an old 80s manual sears 50mm f2 lens i got off ebay for less than 20 dollars. Theres plenty more on there in the same price range. any more Qs just ask

  • Hi trickboarder I like the originality of your video but I don't think it would encourage me to get the KR as quite a bite of the footage was out of focus. I don't know whether that was deliberate or not but really if I was going to buy a dslr for its videoing capabilities I would want all the footage in focus. But thanks anyway TB

  • @padraigr1 That was done deliberately for artistic purposes. I can assure you, you can achieve very tack sharp focus if its what you want. It does not have auto focus in video mode, so if you want something just to take home movies and such perhaps, the nikon d3100 is better suited for you. thanks for watching
