some of the best musicians of all time knew no theory at all.

Most classical composers didn't know much, they just went with what sounded good and would wow the audience.

I agree with you.

All you really need to do it play your guitar enough until you know what sound what note you'll hit sounds like before you hit it, and eventually when you hear a song in your head you can just pick up a guitar and just play it without any theory involved.

Theory is just some guy who sat down and wrote down how he looked at a guitar, and some people tend to take the same view as that guy, but different people have different views when they think about guitar.

the key to writing good music is sit down with ur guitar .. know ur guitar really well and just fool around .. once u find something you like, fool around with it .. see what u can make it into .. guitar playing isnt about how good u are .. its about making music you can be proud of something unique that you can call your own

Maybe you can come up with something out of the things you play that sound good. But if you have studied music, you already have the pieces done, you just have to assemble them in a good sounding way.

Example of two music groups: Korn and Children of Bodom, what's their main difference? Alexi has INSANE knowledge in music theory, Munky just plays what sounds good, he has even said that on a interview with him and Head.
