That's actually not that good for 3.2GHz... I get 50c @ 3.45GHz on that test with my air cooled system. I also notice you didn't mention whether this was a passive or active system. I could understand those temps on a passive system but that's running way to hot for an active system.
@trubritar Phenom II x4 965 b.e.; I didn't like the price to performance ratio for the i7 965. And I'm an avid OC'er so I don't care for the i7's locked clock speed... Maybe I should build a system around an i7 and do some comparative benchmarks, just for the hell of it.
I have a question, i just opened my package from koolance, with this water block, but mine didn't come with those pivot balls..can i still install it or do i need them?
LOL, my coolmaster CPU fan/heatsink keeps my AMD Phenom 4x quadcore stock 2.42GHz at 42-44 C. it is way bigger and has two fans on it too...and yes i know this is running at higher GHz.
i want to build a liquid cooled PC some day. i think they are cool. my only hesetation is the chance of a tiny leak costing me hundreds of dollars in components. i do love the cooling power and look of liquid cooling with UV reflective tubes and UV lights.
yea, if you really wouldn't care, you wouldn't have posted this. And you didn't do anything to me, you just acted like another idiot from youtube. Thats what you did.
Haha, just kidding. I just got this from Koolance and man it's sexy... a shame no one can see it in my computer. The cold plate is definitely the shiniest thing in my computer :)
Do you live in the arctic? lol. I suspect whatever you're using to measure the heat isn't quite accurate. Lots of programs are 10-15 degrees celsisus too low than the real temp. But that could of course just be fromy experience, glad you have a good air cooled rig.
Can't overcome logic and physics. A block with a fan can-not dissipate as much heat from a source as a block with a continuously flowing cooling solution in an average ambient temperature room. So unless you have your computer sitting in an ice box, I would question 32C @ 3.8 on air. No magic involved. Same concept as the coolant in your cars engine. Transfer more heat into a flowing solution than you can into a static fin or block, unless you live in arctic as Fusiongt007 suggested O.o
irrelevant. The only advantage of using oil is that the oil has a higher specific heat capacity (aka can store more energy without heating up) but since the water is being cycled through the cooling system fairly quickly this never would become an issue.
Sure sure, it all sounds very good and dandy. However, with water we have to change it, and be careful with the tank getting green, or algae. I wanna know how it would be like with oil. The termo. difference, how long to it will take to change the oil. Will things perform better, can the oil mess up the pump, will the tubes hold. It sounds interesting to me. Can't wait to see if someone ever test it out. So should YOU mate !
you shouldn't be using tap water if algae is a problem. Try using chemically pure water, maybe with the addition of a small amount of chlorine and it'll never get algae or clog. Also make sure that the system is sterile before you fill it and that the pipes are not see through!
Thermally oil would be identical (understand the science going on in the system and this should become apparent) - though you might need a different (and likely more expensive)pump as oil is thicker than water.
most of the time, if you used distilled water in the water cooler, wash your hand well before touching any components(wear latex gloves if available) and keep the system totally sealed, you shouldn't get any algea or growth in the system. Sometimes the green goop that appears is a residue from the copper, it happens because of a chemical reaction with the coolant. So dont touch your cooler, and it should stay clean!
i noticed that trub likes the koolance blocks. how about their exos system? what water cooling systems do you use aside from the zalman, if there are any?
I'm using the PMP-450 17L/min (4.5 gal/min)@24v (13mm hosing throughout) feeding the CPU water block to a HX-422 Single 120mm Radiator, XFX 9800GX2 BlackEd., HX-720 Dual 120mm Radiator, then back to the Reservoir.
My questions are:
1 is this the right loop set up or should the radiators be before the cooling blocks (as had no problems so far)
2 out of the 345 & 350 water blocks which do you recommend for the Q9000 series CPUs in a high flow setup?
Why is Intel coming out with these bullcrap stock heatsinks for their crown jewel processors? Don't they realize a bad reputation will lead people to care less about their product?
Trubritar, this is a nice cooling system, but I would be interested in seeing a review on the Hardcore-reactor liquid submersion pc's. I'm speaking about the rigs completely filled with non-conductive liquid, and all the components submerged inside.
wow very interesting technology with the mounting plate and curved cpu block.
think u do great reviews but this one has actually peaked my interest in koolance water blocks. wonder if dd, ek and swiftech will adopt similar blocks in their next generation
Those Temps are too high for a i7 965 Extreme Core 45-49 degrees celsius and its not even overclocked. My Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHZ runs at 19degrees celsius and its overclocked to 3.20 on a Maximus Formula X38.
there is no need for my cpu to be @ 100%, If the i7 965 extreme core is @ 49C @ full load and not overclocked then It'll probably be @ 70 or 80 if overclocked @ full load, turdly.
So, judging by the first look at the bottom of the CPU, I'm assuming there is a ceiling fan in that room ...
Either way, I wouldn't mind seeing a new comparison between Tri-SLI and CrossFireX. I haven't heard anything really about CrossFireX performance on the X58, other than how 2 HD 4870 X2s scaled horribly before launch. However, SLI and especially Tri-SLI showed significant gains over the 790i platform. I think it would definitely be a worthwhile comparison on the new even ground.
The EVGA X58 SLI is SLI and CrossFire X compatible all the X58 MOBOs are SLI and CrossFire X Compatible if NVIDIA has Certified them for SLI with out the certification they can only run CrossFire X

For gaming, single GPU setups see little improvement in the framerate compared to Core2. Obviously encoding and rendering is going to be the i7's forte. I say wait for the 8 core 32nm shrink :D
Im Thinking of getting the 920 and overclocking it via water cooling again. but damm thats a hell a lot of money to spend just to get my encoding times down a little :D

Can you explain to me what Thermal Paste Curing Time is?
I'm about to build a computer soon... I want to make sure that everything's wright.
dnjumpz 3 years ago
it is paste that goes in between the cpu and the fan that helps to keep it cool
erkalot 3 years ago
Not the paste.. I know what the paste is.
I'm talking about the Curing Time.. what is it?
dnjumpz 3 years ago
if you get arctic cooling MX-2 thermal paste there is no cure time
its some of the best thermal paste IMO the best

What about the OCZ-Freeze Extreme used in this video? I heard it beats the MX-2 at cooling.
