@MrDajdawg It's probably as simple as the liquid vaporizes and is now flowing up to the sponge which then absorbs the vapor and hereby the sponge has 'gained' mass and therefore it drops.

But since I don't know what liquid this is and a few other parameters, this is basically guess work, but this would be a simple explanation to this.
