this is terrible. i got bored listening to the commentary and read the comments, only to scroll up and see that they were still on Ishinabe's first dish D:
This battle is actually what made Ishinabe quit... He just brunt out... Too bad he could of been really a good chef once the 1hr time limit was put into effect, Today as of the series ending, he would of probably been 35-1
You were screwed up by the American version too I see. A lot of people here are. The American version says the battle was 60 minutes but in reality this battle, like all battles in 1993, when this episode was taped, were only 30 minutes long. This was only the 9th episode ever taped.
@goofballerist Damn the challengers soup did not have CHicken and they counted it WTF, oh well I guess that in 93 the rules of the battle were not set...
This is the only episode of Iron Chef I've wanted to stop watching. The comments are torture. And how can the challenger possibly have won?! That makes NO sense.
I completely agree, the comments had me dozing. For the most part they were rather random, too. I cannot see how the challenger won either. He only had one dish that was judged since the truffle one did not even match the standard of the theme of the battle as it had no chicken. Judos to Ishinabe for standing through a long and tedious rambling session without getting upset. Michiba would probably tell them to shut the hell up
Goodness yes. It's only 4 freaking dishes in total and 1 wasn't even supposed to count! Yet the judges were raving about how good chawanmushi with truffles tasted, despite it having no link to the main ingredient. And i think the glacial pace both chefs moved at was annoying. It's like they didn't care. Bring on Sakai anytime!
Taking a quote from a literary hero of mine...."Worst episode ever"..(Comic Book Guy: The Simpsons). You would think that such a common ingredient as chicken would make it easier to create more dishes than what these 2 did..The judges rambled on so long because they only had 4 dishes to comment on and only 3 to judge, and I agree, you shouldn't be able to even qualify for a win with just 1 dish. Throw chicken @ cream in the ice cream maker for G*d sake..another quote "mmmm chicken ice cream" HJS
When the novelist guy FINALLY stops rambling about the salad dish, Ishinabe just smiles slightly like he's thinking, "I cannot wait to kill you tonight, in your sleep."
For some reason, both Ishinabe and Michiba have that badassed quality about them.
And it's a shame he had to go out on such a note...this was Ishinabe's last regular season battle (he retired after this one). He would come back later, actually, not just in the 2000th Plate Special but would also (according to the IC book, anyway) come back and fight a battle by himself against a challenger (maybe two?) from Club Mistral.
the iron chef is humble. that's great thing to see. n the reason the judge talked much, i think, it's because all of them knew that no matter how good the iron chef was, they wouldn't vote against the prestigious french chef.
yeah, the judges did talk their asses off. heheh. that's because the entire air-time hour had to be filled, so Chairman Kaga encouraged them to speak even more than usual. and...yeah...how the heck did he win with ONE qualifying dish? funny. heheh. i agree that this was certainly the LAZIEST battle in Iron Chef. still love the show though. ^_^
why wasnt the scoring shown i would of liked to seen it ,antway i like it when the iron chefs are knocked down a peg or two ,ireally love iron chef french his dishes arent really gross like some of the other iron chefs..
Ishinabe has won 7 battle and lost 1. He quit because the pressure was too much for him. Same thing with the first Japanese Iron Chef. I don't know what happened to the second Japanese Iron Chef however.
i wouldnt be able to judge that, i mean the challenger's first dish couldnt even be taken into account by the judges because it contained no chicken so he had only 1 dish prepared..a "master" with 1 dish in 1 hour. also a bit dissapointed with ishinabe he only had 2, i'm used to the more 4 - 5 that the other iron chefs do. 1 dish beats two..kinda stupid.
Only 2 dishes? Wow, thats a letdown. And I LOVE this show. That MOF was probably too much of a diva to do more, didn't want to break a sweat. I mean he basically did ONE dish. So glad the show got better after this.
It's so funny watching the first judge compare the chicken to different types of women, while the second judge is looking for cooking tips. The third judge seems to be reading a novel. He takes a tremendous amount of time... It's interesting though. Thanks for upload!
I agree with what you said. Also, the dub they used for the older judge to the right sounds hilarious. I like how they make the voice dubber try to match the voice of the actual judge.
This is one of the earliest shows in the Japanese series. At this time, the chefs could only complete 2-3 dishes on average. And the challenger's soup (that contained no chicken) would not have been accepted if he had competed in a later show.
1:36 what the fuck, chill out.
